As a Dutchman i would say Lufthansa is better,as overall service is better in germany. About the luggage,most luggage which is lost at schiphol airport is from Brittish airways ,followed by all the other Brittish carriers,the problem is Londen heatrow. It is true,an airline can refuse you but if it happens tell them you travel from BKK to another country and back.(you get your tickets in BKK) I have no idea how long it takes but call them tomorrow and ask them,you can also apply for more days in Pattaya or Bangkok.
