  1. SriLankan is ok, but remember they are not a first division airline and if you are flying economy ask or if you can, book seats which are in the first couple of rows behind business class [avoid the first, bulkhead row though to improve on your leg room]........this way you have a better chance of sitting next to passengers with a more sympathetic approach to the customs & norms of international flying, especially on the legs to/from Colombo to Bangkok! If there is not a huge price diference and the connections via Muscat on Oman Air are reasonable, these guys could be a good option as the
  2. Providing you already hold a ticket with a confirmed reservation; in the event of industrial action it becomes the airlines' [in this case Qantas] responsibility to either endorse your ticket to another airline in which case you need to sort out the new airline reservation yourself or more practical they will have or shud be re-booking you on the best alternate available. There can be issues of re-booking with other airlines if you have purchased a highly restrictive ticket but if yours is not one of these then Qantas shud take care of the re-booking on another airline. Best advise, if you hav
  3. For those of us who are planning a trip to Patts & Bangkok over the next couple of weeks these regular updates are highly appreciated.....so a big thanks to all BM's who are giving the rest of us reliable on-the-spot information.
  4. Very well said And I also agree with most of Ergodyne's comments. Personally I like the general atmosphere of the Metro/Buakhow area. Sure its not as 'lively' as WS but like many BM's have said earlier, that is for some, a bonus. The Pattaya scene is changing and looks like it is zoning itself.....one really touristy area, one more laid back area and who knows maybe even a family area!! But I for one think the addition of a couple of extra gogo's is positive. It won't yet persuade me away from visiting WS but maybe I'll be spending a little longer in Metro.
  5. Always in my front pocket. Strange I know, but I still tend to have a little more feeling in areas close to my groin than I do around the cheeks of my butt!! And before anyone comments.....I'm straight and contrary to my previous comment, always very alert to being shafted either by nimble fingers or something less flexible!
  6. Sounds very strange and possibly a system error. The only seats generally not available to be reserved on-line are the emergency exit seats but to have an entire aircraft with all the aisle seats blocked is very weird indeed. If I were you I would go back into 'My Booking' on the site and check again and if they are still all blocked, give the airline a call and explain the situation to find out what is going on and if necessary ask them to block you an aisle seat.
  7. Wise words. Best not to advertise that you have something they might want or better still, be able to sell.
  8. Great to get an update. Thanks a lot for the work involved.
  9. Heading over early November....Have already sent off request to JP. Thanks for the info on the 1st Floor, if they can offer me a room I will ask for one on the upper levels. Have had a reply from LK Mansions at B 4500 for the week, but going on Salifasts' comments I don't think I want to take the risk there. I know for a couple of hundred more per day there is much better accom. available, but I hope JP have something as have only ever seen positive reviews on the place and would like to give it a try.Cheers
  10. Pattysteve & Sailfast.......many thanks for your comments, I think on the basis of your advice and other BM's comments on JP Court, I'll give them a try.
  11. Can anyone give me the 'Heads-up' on LK Mansions? Tried to find some info thru the search pages, but not very much showed up. How does it compare with the JP Court and if anyone has an e-mail address for the JP
  12. The airport is undergoing an extensive redevelopment programme at the moment so things are a bit chaotic there, but in general the madness works out fine. When you board in UK you will be given a colour-coded boarding pass which is used to determine which coach you get on and where you get off. In your case, you will be in transit and therefore do not get off at the first stop which is only for people entering Qatar. You get off at the second stop [i am assuming that as you are travelling with kids you will be in economy class.....its a whole different process if you are travelling business].
  13. I've bought a few clubs over the years on various visits and got some excellent deals. The best prices can obviously be had when there are promotions going on or if buying older models but otherwise I would not say Pattaya was a particually 'cheap' place to buy new clubs in general compared to UK, if clubs are expensive in Aus then maybe the Thai prices will look good. Back in May when I last visited there was a promotional golf shop set up in the Factory Outlet part of the Mall at the top of Thepprasit Road, near Pattaya Night Market.....don't know if its still going. As I don't live there I
  14. Like many have said before me, preferred the old one, but it's what you get used to and the old software seemed to work fine and do the required job. But again, I'm sure there are reasons for the progression and no doubt in the fullness of time we shall all get used to the new format.
  15. In days long since past there was a US airline called Eastern, employed a lot of Latino lasses and most of them chose to leave their skirts behind in favour of some very tight green slacks [pants/trousers].....in the 70's we called them slacks anyway! The girls were invariably up for a laugh and on a night stop, some were very friendly indeed. But don't forget British Caledonian, there were a few stunners roaming the skies amongst the claymore weilding battle-axes and their wee scottish accents could make a man melt in his seat.
  16. Camelot.............5 years without blowing my load...you bet! Balls of Fury..........fu*k those bitches till it hurts. Die Hard........it's the only way to go. Crimson Tide...............on the rag again! Red October...............a whole bloody month of it....no way! Pumping Iron..............even Arniw was once a monger.
  17. Sadly he could not wait until he reached heaven to start poking the 72 virgins, so Osama bin Landin.......in heaven on earth. Rodger that and out!!
  18. Stayed there a couple of weeks ago. The place was pretty full so I only managed to get a room in the old block which sits on the main Buakaow road. My room faced into the Chaba Hut block, so noise was not a problem. Rooms here are not so good, they are old and tired, everything gets wet in the bathroom when showering.....so get the loo roll up high!! But they do have an in-room safe......which to be honest is the only good thing about these rooms. Price was B900 w/o b/fast....add B100 if you want B/f. This is the high season rate. The hotel is very well located IMHO and has a great pool area.
  19. For those of us who struggle to appreciate hip-hop, house and garage, here's a great one from 1968. On a good night, Patts. can conjure up enough sensory distortions to compete with any hallucinogens!!!!!
  20. Very funny, very sad and indeed very worrying........perhaps the only way to stop them breeding would be to invoke the 'condominium' process!!
  21. Very funny, I wonder if he will now become a champion of the belief that crime doesn't pay. Nah, on second thoughts he will probably just sign up for a terrorist training camp so he can go blow his mind.
  22. I've used Bangkok Smile a few times and found them very accommodating [they once did a crown very urgently for me as I only had a couple of days in BKK] and no problems with their work. Prices also seemed pretty competative, certainly much better than Europe. www.bangkoksmiledental.com or www.dentalthailand.com
  23. Excellent joke and with a ring of truth about it......if your political leanings are so inclined
  24. Overall, not a bad airline, especially for an Indian carrier. The equipment they are using is quite modern and they have expanded rapidly over the past few years despite feeling the financial pinch somewhat. They are certainly a good carrier when it comes to service standards. I flew on one of their 777's a year ago, admitidly in business class, but on that flight, they could not be faulted except just a tadge too many Hindi movies for my liking...LOL, but flat beds and big screen viewing with comfortable headphones. Nice selection of booze and good food. They are definately lightyears ahead o
  25. Thanks for the tip. Never eaten there, but with steaks that size and for that price, will definately do so on my next visit.
