  1. The bottom of the real estate market in Thailand, and especially in Pattaya, must have fallen out by now. After all, who is buying?
  2. ^ I was in a similar situation when I retired a few years ago, with thinking of returning to work. It's a difficult decision and a real compromise that requires some sleep time to think it over. If you have time on your hands, have you thought about working part time, maybe even in a different field or for yourself? There are a lot of options to consider. We just need to be critical and creative with our thinking. But who doesn't want more money? The question is ... will more money, after a certain point, make like better? I'm not sure, once we're comfortable with a certain standard
  3. I've noticed the price of flights to Asia have been dropping as of late as a result of the spread of coronavirus. I wonder if hotel rooms are coming down too.
  4. Most Thais have been very respectful toward me, and I can tell you that they are most grateful for any acts of kindness I have shown toward them. Maybe Buddhism breeds that in them? On one occasion, I happened to be walking by a street vendor preparing food for the security man at my hotel when just before he had a chance to pay I reached in my pocket and covered the cost for this poor old man. This little act of kindness - of no more than 50 baht - produced more wais from him toward me for the rest of the trip than I could count.
  5. There's what I call a "proletarian gym" with basic free weights on Pattaya 3rd Road just a 3-4 minute walk north from Tony's gym on the corner of Pattaya 3rd Road and South Pattaya Road. It's on the west side of 3rd Road. It's a 100 baht, if I can recall correctly, and pretty basic, but if all you want is a weight work out, it will suffice in a pinch.
  6. I think we'll reach another breaking point when the USD drops below 30 baht and the AUD 20 baht.
  7. Yes that's the word I believe, thanks. I found Signature under Settings.
  8. How do we go about adding content below every post of our own that appears automatically?

  10. VT6 is nice but the rentals are way over priced.
  11. The way things are going the USD will be below $30, the AUD under $20 and the EUR under 34. What is amazing is that you'll still get guys saying "oh, it's not that much of a difference". In fact, they'll say that even when 1 USD buys 2 baht : "Hey, don't worry, it's two for one".
  12. I'm afraid that the decline of the big spending tourist, as a result of the strengthening baht, will be a shock to the economy of Pattaya larger than we expect and they anticipate. Once something starts, it's hard to reverse the trend. People will go elsewhere and find other things to do with their money.
  13. ^ Holy heavens man, are you good or what? I thought I was good but came up broke after about 20 minutes of searching "pbc pattaya" and even using google maps to find it. Thanks. The place caught my eye earlier in the day while I was looking at another condo. But I couldn't find it for the life of me. May I ask how you found it, because the "pbc pattaya" search didn't work for me under both the web and images categories? Btw, I just did a little searching about the place and what a disappointment. The outsides look spectacular but everything else seems to be horrible, according t
  14. Does anyone know where this hotel or condo is located?
  15. July 5, another tourist is dead after a "fall" at VT1 while being shown rooms for rent, the third in two months. Can't identify the victim like so many cases, b/c the wallet is missing. What a coincidence. Btw, what I want to know is the current bb rate cut on these suspicious deaths? https://www.pattayaone.news/foreigner-falls-his-death-view-talay/
  16. Can someone update us regarding the new building on South Pattaya Road. I believe it is beside Friendship Market.
  17. It sounds as though you have a hate on for the western world and anything it represents. If that is the case, you should be living in a third world country. And I'm not sure how wearing safety clothing is related to the tourist industry. Please explain, will you?
  18. It's amazing yet sad to see these men and women working heavy construction in nothing more than slippers/sandals/flip flops on their feet and no hard hat on their head. The western world is still half a century ahead of Thailand in terms of safety and working conditions.
  19. There are many hotels that compete with AirBnB on price for the long term.
  20. E.P. ... thank you for the comprehensive reply. Some very good advice. I stay away from any uncooked food such as veggies on vacation. I often live on a simple diet - bananas, apples, freshly cooked eggs and bread - when traveling to avoid sickness. Nothing ruins a trip more than falling ill from food poisoning. But the pictures of your meals are mouth watering and I feel I'm missing out, particularly when Thailand is so well known internationally for great cuisine. Cheers.
  21. E.P. ... may I ask how often you fall ill from eating out at so many different places? I've fallen ill a few times, so I stick to a couple of places I trust. Btw, I fell ill after eating some curry chicken at Retox in September.
  22. Beware of a dirty little trick pulled by the Kasikorn bank near Tukcom on South Pattaya Road. Once you hand over your currency for exchange, the numbers on the board change quickly and not in your favour. I asked for my currency back before the lady had a chance to do the conversion.
  23. As others have pointed out, the big corporate chains have everything to gain by this. And it wouldn't surprise me that they are behind it. After all, when have the Thai authorities ever been concerned about the welfare of tourists? Corporatocracy incrementally turning the screws on the people once again.
  24. You need to get a life if you spend your time digging through the posts of others trying to analyze their comments, if in fact you have what it takes to do so, which I'm not sure, judging by all the public school level mistakes in your unlettered response. Regardless, you sound disturbed. Seek help.
