I can't point to a verse, an arabic friend of mine mentioned that this was in the Koran, so i always thought it was, here is a link with a discussion of it.. http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1539219/posts also see here - http://fredfryinternational.blogspot.com/2...c-oddities.html scroll down to where it says - This brings me to the Island-State of Bahrain. It is connected to Saudi Arabia by a bridge. Allah does not see past the bridge. On Bahrain, Muslims, mainly from Saudi Arabia, can pretty much do whatever they want. Smoke, drink, whatever. I was in an Irish bar, and in the room next door, there were a bunch of Saudi men, all dressed in white, sitting in Laz-e-Boys with water pipes next to each chair. They were smoking and drinking and watching two scantily-clad women from the UK dancing on a stage. I bet that Allah would not approve. My boss has told me that Allah cannot see what goes on inside hotels either. Come to think of it, that can be a pretty handy character of a God.

One of my favorite things to do with a Muslim who says they are believers is to ask them about Bahrain. In the Koran there is a verse that God does not look upon Bahrain, so this is taken literally by many of them. This means Bahrain is a sin city where what you do doesn't affect your being muslim and they can do anything there. Casinos, drinking, gambling, women, vices .....all... Now, if God is all seeing then how can he not see what they do there. Fly a plane from a Muslim nation into Bahrain, the guys will be dressed like sheiks and the girls in burka's or less conservative covering. upon arrival they usually hit the airport bathroom and emerge with women in miniskirts and men in western casual wear that they could never wear in their country, and go off to a weekend of partying and return to their home in their conservative dress.

  9. cost of living in CM THAILAND Budgeting for Life in Chiang Mai Consider settling down in Chiang Mai, where a retired couple can live for as little as $1,055 per month for basic expenses. We know a single man, an American, who lives on only $200 a month, with half of that for rent. He gets around on a bicycle and eats at noodle stalls--or for free when a temple offers lunch. He makes a sport out of spending as little as possible. We know a Thai American woman who bought an apartment in a small town 15 k.m. from Chiang Mai. She manages on $600 a month Social Security and, as she is Thai and over 60, she has free government health care. But those are special cases, exceptions. You should start with a bigger budget, below. House and apartment rentals can vary a great deal. We know a couple who rent a place in the countryside 12 kilometers from old town Chiang Mai and pay only $135 for a small home and garden. You will certainly pay more for larger, newer places in town. Foreigners can own apartments/ condos in Thailand but, unless they go through hoops, not real property. So we show living costs assuming the purchase of an apartment/ condo. House or Apartment Rental Rent $400 Can vary greatly HOA Fees $0 Property Taxes $0 Transportation $100 Local buses $.60 per person, taxis average $2,50 per ride Gas $0 Electricity $50 Average value, depends on air-con Telephone $15 Cell phone, depending on use Internet $40 Cable TV $50 Includes English language movies Household Help, part time $50 Once or twice a week Food $100 Entertainment $250 Includes meals away from home Homeowner's Insurance $0 Exchange Rate: $1=35 baht (Jan 09) TOTAL $1,055 Apartment Ownership Rent $0 HOA Fees $75 Property Taxes $0 Transportation $100 Local buses $.60 per person, taxis average $2.50 per ride Gas $0 Electricity $50 Average value, depends on air-con Telephone $15 Cell phone, depends on use Internet $40 Cable TV $50 Includes English language movies Household Help, part time $50 Once or twice a week Food $100 Entertainment $250 Includes meals away from home Homeowner's Insurance $35 Exchange Rate: $1=35 baht (Jan 09)) TOTAL $765 Car Registration $20 Insurance $20 Maintenance $40 Fuel $100 Car Total $180 Exchange Rate: $1=35 baht (Jan 09) If you have a car you’ll largely eliminate the $100 a month budgeted for local transportation. Costs skyrocket if you want to live in Bangkok , figure you’ll pay double for rent, transportation, eating out and entertainment. Paul Terhorst For Live and Invest Overseas

  14. Maybe Joe can answer this.... Is a purple shirt the sign of being gay in Thailand? I ask this because once i wore a purple shirt and all the girls ignored me. Later in the night several girls at the bar told me it was because my shirt told them i wasn't interested in a lady.. I went back to the hotel and changed, and the 'hansum man' shouts returned.. Have you ever heard of this Joe?

  16. Okay, thanks guys.. Does anyone know though if a non-New Zealander can benefit from the interest in a NZ or (non-Australian) in an Australian account.. Realizing the NZ/AUS $ are at all time highs, and it is risky.. Stickman posts about how he does this... http://www.stickmanweekly.com/StickMarkII/...doInBangkok.htm http://www.stickmanweekly.com/Weekly2006/weekly284.htm he's from NZ though and uses NZ bank accounts, losing 10% of the interest because he doesn't live as a resident in NZ.
  17. Hi Guys, I just was looking at HSBC in NZ and Australia and saw savings accounts rates of 8.5%! Here in the US we have a low 3.5% rate (best I could find). A question I have is if anyone knows how a foreigner might open an account and get these high rates, yes I realize one would invest AUS or NZ currency and get interest in them. Also, does anyone know the tax implications of a US citizen doing this? Reading Stickman he says that he gets 9% interest on NZ savings... And he says that if a foreigner has an account they lose 1% of the interest. Which is still a good deal, now with 15% taxes on earnings from savings one would have.. 8% *.85 = 6.8% interest, which is 3.3% higher than any in the USA. Thanks/Cheers! Shane

  19. BI to issue visa to foreign traders By Reynaldo G. Navales http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/pam/2008/...gn.traders.html CLARK FREEPORT -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) has announced its plan to issue non-immigrant visa to foreign businessmen who wish to invest in the country and employ at least 10 Filipinos. BI Commissioner Marcelo Libanan said the bureau is not only keeping the country safe from outside threats, but it is also doing its part to help keep the economy afloat. "This program is our contribution to the efforts of the Arroyo administration to generate more job for our countrymen and spur the growth of investments in our country," Libanan said. The business sector welcomed the plan of Libanan to allow the indefinite stay of foreigners engaged in certain businesses or industries, which promote employment and improve the living standards and quality of life of Filipinos. After a series of public hearings, a draft executive order of the implementing guidelines for the visa will be submitted to Malacañang for approval by the President, Libanan said. He explained that the proposal aims to make it easier for foreigners to do business in the country by waiving the requirements for their visa applications and granting them privilege to stay here indefinitely. "We make it easy for investors to acquire visa that allows indefinite stay in the country so we encourage them to become serious investors in capital and technology," he said. The immigration chief was recently cited by the US government for its effective campaign to keep terrorists out of the country. "Public interest warrants that these documentary restrictions be waived and the foreigners concerned be admitted as special non-immigrants under our immigration act," he added. The special non-immigrant visa shall be issued to certain classes of aliens particularly those engaged in "viable and sustainable professional, micro-/macro financing, entrepreneurial, corporate, banking, scientific, technological, industrial, telecommunications, tele-transcriptions, eco-tourism, medico-pharmaceutical, herbal-therapeutic, and commercial enterprises." The proposed rules state that the business or industry of the visa applicant must provide business opportunities or employment to at least 10 Filipinos. Qualified applicants shall then be considered special non-immigrants with indefinite stay in the Philippines. They may avail of the visa without need of prior departure from the country. Allowing foreigners to stay indefinitely in the country will not violate any law as the President has the power to waive the documentary restrictions for aliens and change their admission status to special non-immigrants, according to Ronaldo Ledesma, executive chairman of the BI board of special inquiry. Ledesma also cited the 1987 Constitution which declares the policy to promote full employment, a rising standard of living and an improved quality of life for all Filipinos. from todays manila times there is a story also http://www.manilatimes.net/national/2008/a...080828met4.html 100,000 new jobs seen from latest visa program THE Bureau of Immigration said Thursday that at least 100,000 new jobs could be generated once its proposed “job-generating visa” is approved and implemented. “At least 100,000 new jobs will be created as a result of the proposed new indefinite stay visa for foreigners who will employ 10 Filipinos in viable and sustainable businesses in the Philippines,” Immigration Commissioner Marcelino Libanan said in a statement. The immigration chief added that President Gloria Arroyo is expected to sign and issue an executive order early next month for the job-generation visa. The proposed visa program received strong support from eight foreign business organizations in the country. The Immigration chief said the issuance of the new visa will be based on the actual jobs that will be created by the investment made by foreigners in the country, instead of the actual amount of capital deposited in Philippine banks. “The new indefinite stay visas will benefit Filipinos directly with tangible jobs created,” Libanan said. Aside from foreign business groups, the proposed visa program was welcomed by the Departments of Labor and Employment, Trade and Industry and Foreign Affairs. Foreigners that will apply for the indefinite stay visa will have to get an endorsement from the concerned government agency that oversees the industry where the foreigner will engage in. “If his [or her business] is in the tourism industry, he would have to secure or show a certification coming from the Department of Tourism that he is employing at least 10 Filipinos,” Libanan said. The Immigration chief added that foreigners who are applying for the indefinite stay visa will still need to secure an alien employment permit from the Labor department. He added that existing immigration laws and regulations that govern employment and business endeavors of foreigners will still be applied to those who are issued the indefinite stay visas. --Anthony Vargas
  20. DMIA gets 14 daily flights to Thailand By Reynaldo G. Navales http://www.sunstar.com.ph/static/pam/2008/...o.thailand.html CLARK FREEPORT -- Air Traffic at the Diosdado Macapagal International Airport (DMIA) here is expected to grow after the success of the recently concluded RP-Thailand Air Talks where Clark got 8,600 seats. Clark International Airport Corporation (Ciac) president Victor Jose Luciano, who is a member of the RP Air Panel that attended the RP-Thailand Air Talks in Bangkok last July 24 and 25, said DMIA in Clark Freeport got the biggest air deal with 8,600 seats. Thailand will get reciprocal seat entitlements of 8,600 for the Clark route, bringing the total number of seat entitlements to 17,200 seats weekly or 14 flights daily. "This is a great step for DMIA in bringing more tourists in the Northern and Central Luzon as the airport is on its way of becoming the country's premier gateway," Luciano said. He also said that part of the air deal, cargo capacity at DMIA will be boosted from zero to 700 tons weekly, adding that there was no limitation on airline designation. This means even non-flag carriers can fly there from multiple designations. The air agreement also allowed other carriers not limited to Clark. Manila airports got 5,400 seats from 2,930 with cargo allocation of 300 tons from more than 200 previously. Other airports outside Clark and Metro Manila were given allocations of 2,110 seats from their previous 850 seats. Air Traffic at DMIA is also expected to boost further after Cebu Pacific Airways had revealed plans to operate at the 2,500 hectare Civil Aviation Complex via Clark-Bangkok and Clark-Hong Kong routes. Cebu Pacific is also planning to operate other destinations in Clark, which includes Macau, Singapore, and Taiwan making the former US facility as their hub in the Northern Luzon area. Korea's Asiana Airlines last July 22 started their Clark-US routes every Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 1:10 p.m. and will arrive in Incheon in South Korea at 5:05 pm. These will connect with Asiana's international flights to Los Angeles and New York every Tuesdays and Thursdays and to Chicago every Saturdays. Asiana's flights have increased to 10 flights per week from their previous seven flights per week. Asiana's flights at DMIA use an AirBus 320 with a capacity of 142. Other airlines operating at the airport include Tiger Airways of Singapore via Clark-Singapore-Macau routes, Air Asia of Malaysia via Clark-Kuala Lumpur and Clark-Kota Kinabalu.

  24. Here is a Pub that rents rooms that is right in the middle of the action. Owner is a nice Belgian fellow and his wife. Email them and he might be able to offer a good deal. I stayed at the Porn Ping hotel, which was a quick ride (50 baht) and 5 minutes from the action center, it was a nice hotel and i was able to pull a few freelancers from the danceclub in the basement. Recommend Spicy's as a late night (after bars close) pickup place, all the cabs know how to get there.
