  1. My Missouri Tigers haven't beaten the Oklahoma Sooners in football since 1998, but they finally did it on Saturday. The fact that Oklahoma was the number one college football team in the nation just makes the victory that much sweeter. Here's a video featuring highlights from the game, including the Missouri fans storming the field and taking down the goal posts. Mizzou is now 7-0, but they have a tough game next weekend vs Nebraska. Go Mizzou!
  2. Since I don't drink coffee, why would I have a kettle to make coffee? Did you notice the toaster in the 700 baht room? I figured you'd be thrilled by that, since you consider toaster ownership such an important indicator of success. It honestly never dawned on me to look at whether the toilet walls reached the ceiling. Guess that's because it wouldn't bother me one single bit if they didn't reach the ceiling. I don't think the rooms at the new location have windows that face the beer bar complex next door, so I'm sure it's not as bad as when I stayed at the old location, which did have rooms with windows on that side of the building. Regardless, the beer bar noise is finished by 1 or 2 AM. How many people visiting Pattaya are in their rooms before 1 AM? If you like to turn in early I'm sure you could ask for a room away from the noise. So while you're in Pattaya you want to avoid any Indian tailors? Good luck with that. One of Sky Top's big selling points for mongers is the proximity to Soi 6. Sorry, that means it's gonna be close to either Beach RD or 2nd Rd. Look at the positive - you're right on the baht bus line. Gonna check the electrical situation when I stay there next time. I doubt they lock the front entrance at 9PM since there is a bar directly in front of it and I seriously doubt the bar is closed before Midnight. Again, that's something I'll check when I stay there. Even from your photos I see nothing to alarm me about the night entrance. My only concern is that it's well lit and my key opens the door. I seem to remember using the night entrance when I stayed there a couple of years ago and had no problems. Are you offended by the laundry hung by the door? Again I remind you and others who have dissed the Sky Top that this is a BUDGET hotel. The prices are less expensive, therefore it's not going to have all the amenities of a nicer, more expensive hotel. You are correct to point out that I'm not very demanding of my living space. I live in a one-room apartment that costs 3500 baht per month. The wiring in my apartment is on the face of the wall, not inside. I don't have a kitchen. I don't even own (horror of horrors!!!) a kettle! These are things that don't bother me. If you're kinda like me and you don't sweat stuff like this, then you'll probably be ok with staying at the Sky Top. If you're like Obsession (are there other people like Obsession? ), then please stay in another hotel. Better yet, stay in another city.
  3. On my next trip to Pattaya I'll spend the night at Sky Top and see if the electrical situation is an issue for me. I've had a drink in Tropical Berts but not seen the rooms. 650 is at the top of my personal price range, but may have to look at it. Is that "B/F" a breakfast or a barfine that is included?
  4. Not beating a dead horse or trolling, just providing an updated review. I actually, sincerely like the place and think it has gotten a bad rap on this board. I have no investment or interest in the place. I took time out of my trip to Pattaya and actually went down there and took a look for myself. How many of you naysayers have actually been there and looked at the rooms? Anybody? I wasn't familiar with the owner (Pete) misrepresenting himself on this board. I agree, that's wrong. I disagree Steve, it is not a dump. I also wouldn't use MM's words "plain and average". Yzi, personally I wouldn't pay 700 baht for the large room. I much prefer the 550 room. The bed is plenty big for 2 people. Plastic chairs? I agree they look silly, and I wouldn't sit there, but I don't care, I'll eat on the bed. TV too far away or too small? Simple, move it closer. As for the cabinet, here's a better pic. Looks ok to me. Even has a microwave and a toaster. Then again I don't get hung up on little details like this. When I'm in Pattaya I'm just looking for a clean place to drop my bag, someplace to sleep, shower, maybe look at a little TV. If these sort of details (TV, dining area, oversized bed) are important to you then yes, of course, you might want to consider a more expensive option. The Sky Top is a clean, well maintained, budget hotel. I'm simply defending a place that constantly gets slammed on this board. You say there are better for the same price in that area? Great, post your reviews of them and share with the rest of us. Personally I also like the Queen Vic on Soi 6, similiar price range, but if I wanted to stay near Soi 6 but not RIGHT ON Soi 6 I would definitely be happy at the Sky Top. After my visit last Saturday I plan on staying there on my next trip to Pattaya. That's how much I liked it (and, admittedly, reflects how much I liked the girl working there ).

  6. I stayed at the old Sky Top for one month back in 2005 and at the new location (just down a few doors from the old one) a couple of times, but it's been a year or two and I wanted to see if it was like I remembered. I went down there on Saturday afternoon, October 16th, 2010. All these pics were taken by me on that day. First I was attracted by the cute girl minding the bar out front (Naree Bar). Her name was On and though her face was average she had a nice figure. She's hiding behind the Doreman pilow in this picture. She wouldn't let me take a picture of her. We played a few games of pool and I had a couple beers, even bought her a drink. She's one of several fun girls working there. They have an internet shop on the first level. You can access the wifi in your room free of charge. That's On walking away from the camera. Nice body. On took me to see the rooms. The smaller room goes for 550 baht per night. The larger room is 700 baht per night. Bathrooms have a western toilet and hot water. Looked clean and modern to me. Location is great with Soi 6 and Big C a short walk away. Lots of guys on this forum have dogged the place. It is definitely not as bad as they would have you believe. It ain't fancy, but as BigDUSA has said many times, it is a good place for those on a budget. Their website is: http://www.skytopguesthouse.com
  7. Halliday labors for 12 years with the Blue Jays, never sniffing the play-offs, then, in his first post season game, throws a no hitter. Amazing.
  8. Just because I find pretty much every soccer match boring, even when they score a couple of goals, does not mean I feel the same about baseball. On the contrary, I agree that some of the best games I have watched have been 0-0 pitcher's duels. Nothing better than two pitchers who are in a groove taking turns on the mound confounding hitters. I am no fan of 15-10 baseball games. I appreciate good pitching and good defense. Hell, I grew up a Royals fan, and that's how we won in the 70's with Whitey Herzog as manager. Guess I'll have to tear myself away from the week 4 NFL highlights and get ready for some October baseball.

  10. So many to choose from. Let's go back to 1938, one of my all-time favorites Bringing Up Baby
  11. I wasn't being literal. My point was Maddux wasn't known for being a power pitcher, but he's one of the best pitchers in MLB history. Back to Chapman, he's currently 2-2, with 16 strikeouts in 11 innings of work and a 2.38 ERA. He was a September call up so I'm guessing he won't be on the Reds play-off roster.
  12. Trevor Howard
  13. He was very good in The Cooler
  14. The Hunt For Red October
  15. Nicolas Cage
  16. Rookie tight end Tony Moeaki makes a beautiful one-handed touchdown grab in the Chief's victory over the 49ers. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlig...b4/Oh-my-Moeaki
  17. I agree with everything you guys say. A guy like Greg Maddux is a Hall-of-Fame pitcher even when he never bumps the radar gun over 80. Speed means very little if you can't get hitters out. Still, 105 mph. No one has ever thrown a pitch that fast. It does impress me. I stood next to the bullpen and watched Zack Grienke warm up a couple years ago when the Royals were in Phoenix to play the Diamondbacks. I'm guessing he didn't break 90 mph, but standing that close and watching the white blur that sounded like a gunshot everytime it landed in the catcher's mitt. It impressed me. . . . and this kid was throwing 105. Wasn't Syd Finch the guy who rubbed possum fat on the ball?
  18. The season began with Washington Nationals phenom Stephen Strasburg. Now it's ending with the Reds fire-baller Aroldis Chapman and a MLB record. From Yahoo Sports: SAN DIEGO – Aroldis Chapman(notes) was summoned from the bullpen one batter too late to make a difference in the game. No matter. The 22-year-old Cincinnati Reds left-hander made do by making history Friday night, throwing the fastest pitch recorded in a major league game, a 105-mph fastball. The blazing pitch pushed a white-hot pennant race to the back burner. Yes, the San Diego Padres won the game 4-3 to pull ahead of the Atlanta Braves in the National League wild-card race. Sure, the San Francisco Giants all but buried the Colorado Rockies thanks to a dominant performance by Tim Lincecum(notes). But the lingering memory was of a now-you-see-it, did-I-actually-see-it fastball to Tony Gwynn(notes) in the eighth inning. The pitch was not a fluke: Chapman threw 25 pitches in his 1 1/3 innings of relief, and every one was at least 100 mph. He didn't throw a slider. He didn't throw a changeup. Why would he? 19. Good movie, directed by Peter Jackson, and I actually remember the other girl's name Melanie Lynskey
  20. One of the best movies of 2008, IMHO Revolutionary Road
  21. Billy Bob Thornton
  22. I just can't get excited about baseball this year. I'll probably get into it once the play-offs start, but right now it's all NFL.
  23. Wait thru the commercial and you'll see the highlights. It was an exciting and bizarre first week. Chris Johnson and Arian Foster go off. Michael Vick rose from the ashes. A last second non-catch for the Lions, and a very costly last second penelty for the Boys. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-videos/09000...-back-at-Week-1 Looking forward to a great season.
  24. His Oscar-winning performance Separate Tables
  25. She's so mature that she has been dead for about 6 years. But she was wonderful back in 1949 in . . . "On The Town"
