Hotels can be had much cheaper than the UK for equivalent facilities. I stayed at a Holiday Inn in Surrey regularly (not by choice we have meetings there) ). The rack room rate is £255 (12500bht) a night. Internet and movies in the room is £28 (1400bht) extra per night. There is no fridge. There is a mini bar but it is stocked with 1 can of beer two cans of soft drink and a half a bottle of wine. I think there's some water in it as well. If you as much as knock it it will charge the drinks to your room bill. No room for anything else in there. I hang Singha (Yai) Beer out of the window

Carrying Passport in Thailand!
alphacat replied to Bornloser's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Your supposed to do it but I never have. Ever. Not in the last 20 years. i do carry my UK driving licence as ID. On the two occasions when stopped by the BB (one in Pattaya after a car accident once on the way to Korat both while driving) I showed my UK driving licence and it was no problem. If i carry it I will lose it and what do you do with it when your out for a run ?? Impossible. -
I like to get to bed early in anycase. Why stay out spending money drinking stuff thats going to ruin performance . 2am is well late enough.

Anyone else noticed a drop in food quality at PBG lately?

Often gastroenteritus is linked to bacterial infections and named by symptoms not cause. This is true certainly of the NHS in the UK and below is a quote from their web site. That helps doesnt it? -

Quite right but it doesn't stop the drug companies like those who make Loxinor or its replacement Cifloxin (think that's the right spelling). from stating it cures gastroenteritis and gonorrhea and etc etc . -
I have just booked a trip to Phuket from the Uk (LHR)with my family later this year. The breakdown of prices is quite stunning.. In the end I went with Singapore Airways. Reasonable schedules with only an hour or two wait in Singapore between flights. Cost of Flight .. £200 per adult return. Cost of taxes .. £210 per adult Cost of Surcharges ...£150 per adult. Total per adult £560 Its clear this flight is competitive for one main reason.. Its on the A 380. I dont see how airlines can keep it up with taxes that cost more than seats. Surely profits must b

It was cured by an anti biotic that was dispensed as a treatment for gastroenteritis. So I presumed it was reasonable to identify that as the cause. Same thing happened to me from King Sea Food. In any case the problem in adults is mainly caused my Norovirus not Rota virus (normally confined to children). It may have been just a simple bacterial infection (food poisoning) in either case the symptoms are the same so I am told. I am well aware of the difference between a viral infection and a bacterial one but you will see printed on many packets of anti biotic that they are treatment for -

Used to like a meal in the PBG once week usually. The last meal I had wasn't so good in June. My GF said 'mai alloy' !! Then my son and his wife ate there in October and it gave him a very bad bout of gastroenteritis. Just about spoilt their stay in Pats. He is absolutely sure it was from the PBG. The last time I was poisoned was from King Seafood and I have never ate their since. It would be bad news if the food has deteriorated in the PBG as its well run and a great location. -
Very reasonable advice.. I have done it a few times.

Which ATM's give out the most cash?
alphacat replied to rb's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
I thought it all depended on your card account ?/ Ie £500 max withdrawal a day would be around 25000bht. -
Well I know he isnt renowned for his generosity. Unlike me.

None of the responses really fit but I will be in LOS with her and i think I will take her back to the bar where we met for a few drinks probably paid for by the owner who has had the pleasure of her working for him twice till I just had to step in and rescue her.

Best breakfast with real bacon in Pattaya in my experience was at the Garden Hut Restaurant next to the Hillside Hotel (opposite Pattaya Hill Resort). Haven't been for a while but it was exceptional.

Once though about retiring to LOS but never ever about running a bar or anything at all to do with entertainment. i realy couldnt be bothered with that. I retired in 2003 having married a Thai 6 years earlier. She didnt want to go back and she was earning good money in the Uk She loves her job and also continued to do work on a consultancy basis. We also now have a daughter at school in the UK. So in the end we are much better of visiting LOS and my wife doesnt even like doing that too often. I love to vists but no way would I want to live there.

Yes they do but its a small price to pay as its only once or twice. The cost of a beer. Everything has a charge. To me this is the best option and gives great flexibility with travellers cheques etc if you have any left its all hasstle. Not to mention the trip with your passport etc.

I can see the point about room safes but I have used them without problems for 20 years. The only time there was a problem (luckily my safe wasnt involved) was at Munchies in Samui about 12 years ago when a number of residents had money taken from their safes at reception in fact they cleaned out about 8 of them. These had a two key system, its not foolproof as other keys are available and it only takes two members of staff or one in some cases. They just took as much as they could get an ran. !!! Girl and her boyfriend.!! So to think cleaners are worse than reception staff is a bit unwis

Personally I never use travellers cheques. Cant be bothered taking my passsport out of the safe. I change about £200 at BKK airport (its too expensive for more. Then another £500 when I get to Pattaya or Phuket etc. For Extra money, I used to use a Nationwide Flexiaccount but now they charge for withdrawls so I have a Halifax Clarity credit card now which doesnt. I always carry at least 3 credit and 2 debit cards and keep them in different locations. At night I only take one of each at most out with me. i insist onb a hotel having a modern electronic room safe. I am sure you will have a g

The Thais I know in the UK go mad at Christmas. They just love sending presents and cards etc. Christmas has nothng whatsover to do with religion. It was agreat idea when it started (celebrating the winter equinox knowing it was half way through the winter etc) It was always a festival of food and drink and having agood time and then silly Christians hyjacked it. Thai people dont seem to need much of an excuse to party.
