  1. when we decided to open an internet cafe in pathum thani, everybodyb told us that there are so many and it would never work. it worked fine and even though it does not make one rich (it was never intended to be the main source of income) it certainly could support one. i would say that anybody can suceed, no matter what business. one could for sure open and run a succesful bar in pattaya even nowadays. it is nonsense that opening a bar must fail because there are so many already. the reason why a business fails is more that the person who opened the business did not make enough research or
  2. Hmm - he might have gotten that impression if he ever read the posts in off topic cheers cyber
  3. As far as I know, a Non Immigrant Class O does not qualify you to obtain a work permit. There are different classes for differnt kind of work. In my case, it used to be EX before I got my residence permit. - to perform official duties (Category "F") - to conduct business / to work (Category "B") - to invest with the concurrence of the Thai Ministries and Government Departments concerned (Category "IM") - to invest or perform other activities relating to investment, subject to the provision of the established laws on investment promotion (Category "IB") - to study, to come on a
  4. there's nothing wrong in trying to promote a book, but at least you should have the balls to admit that you wrote the book. cheers cyber
  5. Well, you pay the rent directly to the owner if you don't use an agent. using an agent, in thailand just like in any other country that i know, makes things more expensive. it might be easier to arrange some things through an agent, but is it worth the added price, probably in most cases the answer would be "No". BUt that's just my opinion. cheers cyber
  6. you're welcome - it can take up tp 72 hours before such a change takes effect all over the world though. cheers cyber
  7. MM, this problem is caused by a missing PTR (reverse DNS) entry for your domain. most mailgateways just ignore this but some do make reverse lookup checks to verify the sender. see here: http://www.dnsstuff.com/info/revdns.htm you should contact your hosting nprovider and tell him about this, maybe he is willing to do a PTR record for your domain cheers cyber
  8. MM - actually, what kind of undeliverable message do you get? Most likely they just use some block lists for open relay mail servers. once a mailserver is on such a list, providers who use this specific list do not accept mails (they are simply rejected no matter what subject or content). This can also happen if a mail server is (or was at one time) used to send spam. Same thing happened to the True Mailserver in the past and the procedure to follow would be to make sure that teh mail server does not relay 3rd party emails and then request that the mailserver is removed from the block
  9. Sorry to say, but anybody who is careless enough to travel to Thailand without a full insurance should not complain about prices for hospitals. Having said that, I find that price very suspicious - it would be even more expensive then the Bumrumgrad Hospital in Bangkok which is considered to be the best Hospital in the country (according to a survey made for the Departmenf of Hospital Accredidation last year). What did they give this guy? Or what kind of tests did they do? cheers cyber
  10. he has some pics of his thailand holliday in the "privat" section - xdrag, maybe you should just pist the pics welcome to the board anyway, especially as a fellow austrian - how's the weather back there, i will go for a 5 days visit over christmas cheers cyber
  11. And that is even the public Library, a government facility cheers cyber
  12. All right, I thought it was but I am not sure either. cheers cyber
  13. During the process of moving out of my home, I spent a night at the Grand Business Inn on Sukhumvit Soi 11. I can recommend that place, it was 1200 Baht a night, the building is new (2004) - they offer a free internet access on a computer in the lobby for guests, they have a lift, security is good (they check girls ID), friendly enough, rooms are nicely decorated with good and large bathrooms. http://www.awgroup.com/gbi/room.htm A nice alternative in that area cheers cyber
  14. why not start to use google for a start? plenty of real estate firms in pattaya... and what kind of building should it be? size? furnished? which area of pattaya? near a road and near the beach is a bit vague. welcome to the board anyway cheers cyber
  15. This store is partly farang owned and it is rather expensive for thailand, BUT, they do offer excellent after sales service which is not the norm here. cheer cyber
  16. it is a rule that you can not join with a freemail address only? don't you have an address from your ISP or at work? you won't get any emails to this address, it is just used to verify (or at least try to) your ID. cheers cyber
  17. I think Phuket is about as expensive as it comes - even thbough it might be a bit better now as they still struggle to get tourists back after the Tsunamis. Bangkok is good for several reasons. But everybody's tastes are different. As for insurance, there are plenty of companies who offer them, a good one to start looking is http://www.bupathailand.com - i have been always happy with them but it is of course only one out of many. cheers cyber
  18. I am no Banking Business professional, but I think that an account can only be ion one currency? So if you set up an USD Account, the balance will be in USD but you probably could deposit in THB. Maybe somebody from this sort of Business can help? In Thailand, HSBC has one Branch in Bangkok as far as I know. cheers cyber
  19. If you are not too picky with your accomodation, a decent room can be found for let's say 5000 Baht in Bangkok. A place to eat in walking distance, no matter where you stay in Bangkok, will always be there. Internet Connection, well, that depends on your accomodation. If you don't got your own phone line, ADSL is a problem, a dial up can be pricy in some of the appartment buildings that offer small rooms as many of them cut the line after 10 or 15 minutes. ADSL is available from 590 (excluding taxes, 631 including taxes). Entertainment, this can't be answered as it really depends on what you l
  20. That is not true. All Banks let you open an account with a Non Immigrant Visa, most will let you open an account with a Tourist Visa and some still don't even care when you only have a 30 day stamp. Banks that are currently a good choice IMO are Bank of Ayudhya or Bangkok Bank. Kiatnakin Securities just became a certified full Bank on October 3rd and they are excellent but it will take them some time to establish more branches. They plan on 100 within 2 years, let's see. cheers cyber
  21. But I would try Lufthansa, they now offer Internet Access on the FRA-BKK route - very nice indeed (the access is available in all classes by the way) cheers cyber
  22. also: http://www.nationjob.com/ cheers cyber
  23. In Bangkok, there are so many places where expats hang out. It's a huge city. But if you want to meet expats and see nice girls at the same time, go to Soi33 - any of the artists bars will have a number of expats every evening. Also Soi Cowboy is popular with Expats. If you have more specific questions, feel free to PM me cheers cyber
  24. look through the recent posts of OnMyWay - he mentioned a large size shop in the factory outlet...could be what you are looking for.. cheers cyber Edit in: this is the thread: http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/index.ph...=0entry238211
