  1. i think i have posted the website 5 or 6 times in the past - a search would have been successful cheers cyber
  2. I can give a short update on that one from my perspective. I am switching to Hutch from AIS and I bought a Hutch Prepay Package 2 weeks ago. Nobody ever asked me for any information. They just asked for the Baht Asking about the registereing, the girl just smiled and said that I should forget about it. Having said this, I have heard that some shops do record names and passport numbers, but as could be expected - it is not a thing that is followed closely throughout the country, at least not in Bangkok and surroundings. Just my personal experience cheers cyber
  3. I myself found the Roof Garden Inn to be nice but really a bit out of the way, especially for a newbie with no expirience with Baht Busses. The room I had was quite small as well even tough somebody from the board explained to me that I had one of the few small rooms, the others seem to be more spacious. The good side is the management as the owner is a nice guy and more then helpful to arrange things like a motorbike for rent (I got a brandnew one including insurance with is not the norm in Pattaya). One other downside for many people - no pool. The best thing IMO are the showers,
  4. The best bets in the Nana area are the following (at least IMO) As alread mentioned: Majestic Suites Down Soi 4 about 5 minutes walk from Nana: The Omni Tower (mail them for latest rates, they are fast with replies) another few meters down Soi 4 from Omni is the Woraburi which is small but nice IMO: Woraburi Inn cheers cyber
  5. Best thing currently is to check with local schools when you are in Thailand. The government has introduced a proagramme to improve the english language skills of Thais and that includes employing farang (native speakers have better chances but that isn't a requirement) teachers in various government schools all over the country. The biggest teaching industry exists in Bangkok where well qualified teachers can earn good money teaching private lessons. http://www.ajarn.com was already mentioned, other places to look are the english language papers. I have posted some links in the past,
  6. But the swiss obviously know where to build an airport - they made sure that if a plane has problems right after take off, it dumps the fuel on the germans cheers cyber
  7. Seems like THAI is not that lucky with it's european flights recently, after the flight to Munich had to do an emergency landing - now this: THAI jet runs into trouble Published on June 03, 2005 A Thai Airways flight bound for Bangkok from Zurich was forced to return to the Swiss city on Wednesday after dumping 45 tonnes of fuel over Germany. It was the third emergency involving the national carrier in less than two weeks. Flight 971, which was carrying 169 passengers, encountered a technical problem with its air pressure data system while flying over southwestern Germany,
  8. with the new ID cards it get's a bit better. Well actually the new ID cards are soon to be the old ID cards again as the most recent are the ID cards with integrated Chip (Smartcards). The old cards where just a piece of paper that was just too easy to fake. the newer ones are plastic cards with holographic features and the most recent ones are smart cards. The only thing one has to ask is: Where does the money come from to replace the new cards with even newer ones when 70% of the population still uses the oldest version? cheers cyber
  9. The offical fine is 200 Baht - but it is only the driver who is required to wear a helmet by law, not the passenger. cheers cyber
  10. you could use the search function, it really works You can get taxis from anywhere between 800 Baht to 2500 Baht. You could also use a Minibus for between 200 and 300 Baht. I would say, if you take a regular taxi, you should be able to get it for about 1000 to 1200 Baht, really depends on how desperate the driver is and on how well you can bargain. If you want to try something different, take the Bus (if you don't have too many bags) - that is just about 100 Baht and just as fast. cheers cyber
  11. The studios are just fine IMO - i think the only difference is that the executive studios have additional dining areas with dining table - as for Baht Bus access - it is just about in the middle of the Soi - so either way - up to 2nd road or down to Beach road is just a short walk, no problems to catch a baht bus from there at all times. Well, maybe it is not exactly in the middle but it is in a convinient location IMO. I have no current info on cunstruction noise though, we are going to stay there in early june over a weekend, will post an update then. we will stay at a one bedroom suite
  12. The Sunshine Vista on Soi 3 is really a nice option and I can recommend it: http://www.sunshinevista.com/ fpr details cheers cyber
  13. I know that will be not much of a help but if you try to install any Unix based OS you will no doubt be able to use the full capacity of the Disc. Anyway, if your windows versions sees it as 187, this is about right for the following reason: HDD manufacturers see it as 2x10^11 bytes, and when you divide it by 1024 (KB), 1024 (MB), and 1024 (GB) you get roughly 187GB. Even though they sell you 200GB technically that is not correct. So actually its not so much that you lost it.. you never had it to begin with. a 20 GB has 19 531 250 KB = which would be 19 073.48MB = 18.626G
  14. hi, Youcan get a thai drivers license with your international license...no exam or any stuff that I am aware off. Also, it is possible to get one with a tourist visa but that seems to depend very much on where you are applying...you need a letter from the local immigration office stating your address in thailand which is easy to obtain and should be free (should ). you can also check out the thaivisa board for probably more up to date information on this subject cheers cyber
  15. The old wing rooms are well worn but all in all i would not rate them all that bad. But I have to add that I stayed there when the new wing wasn't there yet and I have no idea if they did anything to imporve the rooms in the old wing ever since. It was nice to be just a few steps from the pool and in the garden, but it could be loud in the evenings sometimes when people where having some sort of a "pool party". But if you are used to the new wing, you sure will be dissapointed by the rooms in the old wing. cheers cyber
  16. That question can not really be answered without knowing what insurance she has on her car. Usually, the insurance covers the car and as long as you have a legal permit to drive, you are covered. But be aware that these basic insurances (the stickers you can get at the car dealerships) do not have high coverage. If you already have an International Drivers License, that is what the cops want to see. If you plan to stay longer, get a thai DL with your International License. Easier on the cops (english reading is not in their exam). A Thai license may in fact even be required by the insuran
  17. I know - will be online again in July - if you wanna know why - read my short post in the members section cheers cyber
  18. actually you need to look left right and up - recently people are falling from BTS stations a lot. Happened 3 times in 3 weeks... excellent advise given here already but one thing i want to add: be aware about the passport issue - you are required to carry your original passport on you at all times and can (i say can - but it does not mean you necessarly will) get into trouble if you can not produce it when asked by an immigration or police officer. Since I was away for almost 3 months I don't know if currently there are still passport checks in Bangkok - but there sure have been in th
  19. you usually get an email address from you Internet Service Provider, for example @asianet.co.th or @nextra.com or whatever. They should also have the details on how to set it up on you computer somewhere on their website - if not - ask their tech support....you need the name of the server and your username and password and then you set up you email client (outlook express - outlook, eudora - whatever you use) - rather easy actually...if you have specific questions - ask... cheers cyber
  20. if the email is not faked, then you must have really messed it up with copy and paste as it is kinda hard to copy one header to another email by accident. but as i said before, i am convinced that this site is a scam, only, i am also convinced that you did either temper with the emails or just mess up big time during copy and paste.. cheers cyber
  21. it could be worse, I never was a friend of the Nana and I still am not but these pictures look acceptable and not at all what the room looked liked when a friend stayed there a few years back. But considereing the alternatives in the area it would still not be a place I would recommend (besides the really good location maybe). cheers cyber
  22. one question to add...are you sure it is dialing your ISP access number and not some 1-900 (or whatever expensive service numbers you have in your country)? There are a load of dialer detectors on the net. Other then that, It could be anything that was mentionem by Babe already. Most likely it is some harmless adware (like precision time which installs a clock and calender) that permanently tires to connect to the net and if you do not have a "allways on connection" it will trigger a dial up attempt of your PC You could try this first and see if it is enough to solve the problem, but e
  23. it would be best to make use of one of the following: regular dial up prepaid account, can be bought at all computer shops and 7elevens for use in your hotel room a hotel that has in room internet access even though there is no big choice in pattaya use the laptop at any internet shop that does allow you to plug it in (explorer on beach road is one example but there are many more using the laptop with a mobile phone can be expensive if you use it long hours but if you want to do that anyway, get a one2call (or any other prepaid card) for your phone and use the gprs service (aga
  24. Try one of the following: Nok Air Air Asia Tiger Airways cheers cyber
