Is this scam or legit thing ?
fishingtime replied to mattelyo's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
If you land on a private beach then you can be charged a fee. A couple of the areas that I like to use for photo shoots are accessed from private breaches and they charge a fee. -
One thing you can do is pay by credit card and get a good written receipt if it says something like 2.5 carat natural sapphire and it is a lab stone or a fake then the credit card company will charge it back. Another step you could take is to take it to another store within a few days and try to sell it if it is fake they will not buy it most times. In May World Gems (Beach & South Pattaya Rd) had a sale going on any 3 rings gold and Sapphire 10,000 baht. That was less than US$100 each. If a store doesn't want to take credit cards or doesn't want to do a detailed receipt then

Are all Thai girls so generous?
fishingtime replied to HeartBern's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
It is easy to see that it is a trap... but what are you going to do....stay at home with her, or go to Thailand? Posters have said go and don't go but in the end you must make the choice. -
boat hire in Pattaya
fishingtime replied to fruitpiecats's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
You will not find a bare boat charter in Patttya, and even if you did you would not want to do it for many reasons. A private boat to Kohlan Island the main island off Pattaya will cost about 1500 baht. That is take you to the Island drop off and pick you up at a time you state. Most captains this time of year will just drop anchor and wait because business is slow. Or if you want to go to other Islands, or several islands the boats can be hired for 4000 to 6000 baht per day. It is up to you as to what you plan upon doing. Please note that some of the beaches are private and the local o -

fishingtime replied to saigon_butterfly's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Tenchy, Maybe that is a difference between us you have looked for three years while I've taken many of Thailand finest out of the food court. To each his own if you want to just look than you maybe are right. But if you want to find some take out entertainment then the food court is the only place to be. -
You can book many different boats at many different places. Anywhere that they offer tour sales at. Or just walk along the beach and check out the boats until you find one that is set up for fishing. The Captain and Boat that I have used is: Mark 1 Service Pitak (Peter) Karkhai 038 300393 home phone 01 3077289 or 01 4930447 cell phone I have found hiim to provide a good service.

Best Hamburger in Pattaya?
fishingtime replied to saigon_butterfly's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Yes the sandwiches at Au Bon Pan are good but, don't eat your meall at Au Bon Pan. Get your meal to good, go upstairs to the third floor food court get a drink and eat there. The girl watching and pick up options are better in the food court. -
Best Hamburger in Pattaya?
fishingtime replied to saigon_butterfly's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
That is on of the great things about these sites. A guy asks a real question looking for an answer and gets a one line wise crack SB, Many places in town to get a burger, on Soi 7 is the Tequila Reef the burgers are like a good American place. This maybe is due to the fact that the owner of the place is an American and keeps things up to American standards. Another place that I like is at the Royal Garden Mall. The Sizzler, in the mall has a very good burger and they thro in a large open salad bar, with soups, pasta and deserts. It is a good lunch deal at less than 200 baht. Fishingti -
Can anyone give a Rewiew of the Eastiny inn Soi 8?
fishingtime replied to sowwow's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
I have stayed at the Eastiny Inn (Hotel) several times. I really can't say anything bad about the hotel. The service, staff and rooms have always been great. The upper floors are better than the second and third. I like the 7 th (Top Floor), or the 6 th floor because they have been redo and less noise. The problem with taking girls into the hotel and no joiner fees. Between midnight and 2am the nosie level is high but after two no problems. Pool is on the third floor outside but no view. If you do get a room you don't like just asked the desk to change it and they will without a problem. The -
Great saltwater fishing in Pattaya. For a private boat; 26-30', with twin outboard motors, with a captain who knows fishing, all tackle and gear, and a full day of offshore fishing the price should be 6,000 to 9,000 baht. Now that may seem like a lot but remember that the boat will fish four people without a problem. Most better offshore captains are running twin outboard 200 hp each V-6. These motors burn a lot of gas and gas is not cheap so the fuel bill will be more than half of the total amount. I fished in January and paid 8000 baht for the day, the same trip and boat in April

On South Pattaya Road between Beach and Second Road on the right hand side next to Internet Explorer Café is a good shop. A haircut will cost you about 60 baht plus the tip.

When I had a problem with my lap top on my last trip, it wouldn't power up, so I can't burn my own CDs. I went to Central Color Lab, on second Road at Soi 7 and hard them burn five memory sticks to a CD. Did it in lass than one hour and charged 300 baht. I think they are a better choice than a Internet Café because of what you maybe are shooting. I use Central Color Lap to print pictures for me when I need them, or to give back to the girls. So they have seen some hard core stuff. Last thing I want is a call to the police by some internet clerk, I'm not doing anything wrong but don't ne

Pattaya In the New York Times
fishingtime replied to mrt's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Sorry about this but I'm one of those people who is going more to Pattaya now than before. The more tourism drops, the more airfares drop. And that means the more I will be in Pattaya. I know and understand the risk and I believe the risks are real but acceptable. -
Pattaya In the New York Times
fishingtime replied to mrt's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Bangkok may have more total Americans but they are spread out around the city. And also many Thais mixed in with them. Within one square mile or a half of a square mile the most American and Englishmen will be found in Pattaya. Pattaya is open and easy to get in and out of. Phuket is an island with limited access. Tourism is also so far down in Phuket that the total effect would be far less. The most popular group of foreigners (most number of them) in Phuket is the Europeans. And Germans make up a large number of travels in Phuket. Besides lets say a terrorist’s group plans an a -
Pattaya In the New York Times
fishingtime replied to mrt's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
This year Thailand will have I too have not changed my plans but the danger is real and Pattaya is a better target choice than Phuket because of the number of Americans and the British that are in the city. This year Thailand will take a lost from Tourism equal to 40 Billion Baht. Part of that is due to SARS but still 40B is a very large hit for any country, and Thailand will be greatly affected by this lost. The terrorists have targeted Thailand and Pattaya and they have already hit the target on the money side let us hope that they don't hit next with a plan to take peopl -
That is not a problem , any airline trying this will have bigger problems than how to fill planes, making money, and terrorism. The hammer the FAA carries is a big one that all the airlines fear.

Beach View vs Markland Vs SVA
fishingtime replied to engineer197's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Markland is a good choice for hotels but you need to know a few things. Markland is condos and a hotel about 65 percent of the units are condos. The condos are on all floors also so you have a mixture of hotel rooms and condos on the same floor. Never had a water problem and I've been on the upper floors. They do also carter to lots of Asian tours so if you don't want to be around tours go to a different hotel. Also if you want to be near the action it is not the best place to stay. I know you have the Soi 2 bars and massage but most of the entertainment is at the other end of the city. And t -
I know some time back maybe two to three months ago the Pattaya City Council passed a resolution for a 90-day study to extension of the hours in bars and clubs. The idea was to let the places that carter to foreigners stay open in Pattaya until 4:00am. Does anyone know what is going on with this and is it any closer to happening?

Are planes getting back to full capacity?
fishingtime replied to rcj1959's topic in Airline Discussion
I can tell you that I travel on CAL and NWA on April 12 NYC to Bangkok. And the flights were empty only about 35% full. Then I returned to NYC on April 30 and the same was the case. My next trip was all on NWA going through NRT (Tokyo) and it was the middle of May. The flight from the United States was full within 10 people in economy and only a few empty seats in business. But NWA Fight # 1 from NRT to BKK was only 1/3 full. When we returned to the US on May 30 the BKK to NRT flight again was only 1/3. But my flight to the US and my Partners flight to the US (two different flights) were both -
Besides the Penthouse on Soi Pattayaland II does anyone know of any hotels in Pattaya that have round or Jacuzzi tubs in them? Thanks guys for any replies.

"But how far of a walk is it from soi 2 to 8 it seems according to the maps its really close to one another ?? " The walk is over a quarter of a mile, not bad to do at night but in the hot heat of day is another story. Besides if you plan on hitting Soi Pattayaland or Walking Street, you need to double that walk. The great thing avbout Soi 7 and Soi 8 is it is right in the middle of everything.

canadian travellers cheques exchange?
fishingtime replied to great2211's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
"My advice as a Canadian is don't bother with TC's at all - if you have any leftover CDN currency you can change it easily at the moneychangers, and just use your debit card at the ATM's for the rest of the time. It's worked fine for me for my first two visits, and you get a better rate than you would with TC's , too." If only use your ATM card to get funds that is great unless you have a problem with the card or a network problem. Then you could find yourself in Pattaya with no funds. Always have at least two different sources of funds for your trip. Nothing is worst than not having acc -
Both hotels are good and the prices are about the same. The pool is better at the Flipper Lodge. When I was last in Pattaya about a week ago they had the front wing (closest to Beach Road) closed. The hotel was rehabbing the wing, which is a little strange because that is the newer part of the hotel. It may just come down to location; do you want to be on Soi 8 or on Soi 2? For me it is no choice I love Soi 7 and Soi 8. Another option you may want to look at is the Flipper Hotel on Soi 7, they are offering about the same rate but free nights too. I believe the deal was stay 5 pay 4, stay

fishingtime replied to great2211's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Just get any brand large international Travelers Checks that you want. Be it Amex, Chase, Thomas Cook, etc., they will take them all. Also the way the US ollar is doing now you maybe are better off with checks in Canadian Dollars.
