Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
CheshireTom replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Obviously the voice of experience on such matters. I'm sure the very thought of someone creating work opportunities fills you with dread. -
Bodying offers them for 17.6k Baht

A couple of guys are discussing whether it's a good or bad deal ... that's all. Given recent events, that's no bad thing.

Easy. Have you got a link to the same model being offered for 13.5k in Thailand?
-
If you're happy to take a chance with the taxes and duty for delivery to Thailand Or, is there a Thai outlet offering the same model at 13.5k Baht inclusive of taxes?

We should expect to see lots of players from Belize making the grade soon.

I was surprised to see Scotland playing rugby league ... a quick check shows they have more players born in Halifax than in Scotland.

Typhoon Haiyan. More rain next week?

We could do with a few more good downpours down my way, otherwise we'll be struggling for water later on ... but not in the form of a typhoon. -
It doesn't look too promising if it continues on its present track.

It seems that it has only been open about six months or so and I wouldn't put a lot of faith of what's written on trip advisor ... I hope he does make a sale though - I only have one decent pizza place locally and would prefer a couple of options.

Take camera , or use smartphone? Megapixels?
CheshireTom replied to Obsession's topic in Idle Chit Chat
LIar! Neither me, nor Obsession are talking about buying DSLR - he wants a decent monger's camera. Besides, nobody said take a photo at any focal length, let alone buy a wide angle lens. I said, "look for something with a better wide angle (26/28o) rather than long zoom.", e.g. my 28-112mm Olympus xz-2 is much better for monger portraits than my 35-450mm Panasonic. Simple. -
If they are sold anywhere, it'll be in one of the better malls or department stores. Crocs are the way to go in Thailand ... IMHO.

There are plenty of government rules and regulations. It's just that people, for whatever reason, choose to ignore them. -

Sad to say, the fat lady has left the building ... The final table ... -
And, significantly for some, keep a clean sheet. Who is England's No 2 keeper these days?

Worlds colliding: Russian girls in Pattaya
CheshireTom replied to nickman70's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
No evidence was presented by anyone to show that Andropov met Kissinger in 1972 (in Saigon or anywhere else). It's nothing more than another BigD fantasy - just like many of his "recollections". -
Ferang, Germanic tribes, France, Mongols and Persian
CheshireTom replied to angelic's topic in Idle Chit Chat
The question has been addressed by the Departments of Languages and/or Linguistics at almost every major Thai university. From Chula ... From Mahidol ... -
As far as the airlines are concerned, it's low season in UK. High season is the school holidays - generally speaking, Jul/Aug, Easter and Xmas/New Year - when prices are more expensive. Personally, I would book after the late August Bank Holiday unless there was a sub-500 quid fare offered beforehand.

Take camera , or use smartphone? Megapixels?
CheshireTom replied to Obsession's topic in Idle Chit Chat
I asked the same question a few months ago - inspired by Patna's pics. Basically, the two cameras I had (Panasonic FZ50 and Canon SX100) were/are great for landscapes and daylight shots but the trade off was that both struggled in bad lighting conditions (indoors and outdoors) - the normal conditions when we are trying to grab a pic of our girls and where the processor and glass are significant. After much fretting I ended up buying an Olympus XZ-2 ... several cameras are comparable, but I also wanted a flip-screen to get some upskirts variation in the angles of the shots I took. Oh, and if you're going for portraits, look for something with a better wide angle (26/28o) rather than long zoom. IMHO only. -

If you're just after "snaps", a smart phone is ideal. That said, a decent camera isn't just about pixels ... the processor and optics are equally important. What lots of pixels does do is let you crop your image and still be left with a decent quality pic. Do gogos still ban cameras? -

The origin of the word is Arabic, probably introduced into what is now Thailand by Persian traders. Farang (caucasian) existed in Thai before feranset (French), so it's more likely that feranset is a blend of the existing Thai word (farang) and francais. The first European traders to arrive in Siam were the Portuguese, so it's implausible that the Siamese chose to call them something derived directly from a French word (although you could argue that the ultimate origin is the same (German?) word (Franko). Likewise, the guava was likely introduced by the Portuguese from South America ... hence the Thai name, farang (caucasian's fruit).
