  1. There are a few decent managers who have made their mark this season. I like Martinez - he makes for good TV. Buck Rodgers who replaced him at Swansea has also done really well. Pardew at Newcastle is another ... I hope they are all in the Premier League next season.
  2. And there was this bird from Angeles City ... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNLnzuAFlcg
  3. Yes, it's business (z) class - pretty good from the BKK end - and still earns 150% miles.
  4. If you want something light, I think the fish and chips/baked potato/rice at Sizzler is good value for under 210 Baht (considering you also have the unlimited soup, salad and jelly/mousse thrown in). I like Bert (and what he does on behalf of The Legion), but he's a walking advert of what his food will do for you.
  5. Thanks for that Brownie ... Under 80k for BKK-MAN-BKK. I might make the Hearts v Hibs final after all!
  6. Of course!
  7. Hotels that offer LAN connections will have ethernet cables available at reception.
  8. I bet Andy Carroll seemed a good investment at the time ....
  9. Didn't you give a load of cash to some geezer who "looked not a bullshitter" and that was the last you seen of him? A pretty shitty return when the forint has nosedived on the fx markets.
  10. PM the stargazer character.
  11. Don't cut off your nose to spite your face - if he can save you a few satangs, go for it!
  12. I'm sure Fondles has lots of contacts - if not, these folk do re-cons. What a great idea though! Instead of building a house on wifey's land, just get a handful of containers and kit them out. When wifey eventually does kick you out, simply pick up the containers and fuck-off somewhere else. Cool!
  13. You're getting there, Sam. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_j3TDhc8vY
  14. It's a Piaggio mp3 400ie - same folk that do the Vespa. I presume they're imported. If so, I wouldn't want to guess what price tag they carry.
  15. Unless the head of immigration and the head of your local labor office have both said you don't need a B or Marriage Visa and associated Work Permit, the 'views' of the local kamnan and local government officials count for nothing. Whether or not you receive a salary is irrelevant. And why wouldn't they pay Ajarn George when central government funding is available for precisely that reason, i.e. schools that employ native English teachers?
  16. LG 42" LCD on sale for under 16k Baht at Tesco until 14 March.
  17. Isn't "1 computer (or tablet) for 1 child" (or something along those lines) one of the current government's priorities? Getting appropriate educational software in Thai is one of the biggest hurdles. As for charities - there are loads of kids' and community charities out there ... The Bangkok Post Outlook Section is also a great source of information. You need to be very careful about getting involved for free ... what you're doing may turn out to be the responsibility of someone else and your efforts cause them to lose face, and they then get upset, and so on, and so on ...
  18. The article is about televisions in the US - presumably 110v, NTSC models - manufactured between 2006 and 2008. The affected LCD models were: "LNT******/XAA; LN**A******XZA; LNS4041DX/XAA; LNS4051DX/XAA; LNS4052DX/XAA; LNS5296DX/XAA" Regardless of the reported problems, they wouldn't work in Thailand anyway and, as Samsung reported, "The problem does not affect current models so there is no need to contact retailers".
  19. BigC has a 42" Panasonic on sale for 17k Baht until Monday.
  20. Still via Munich?
  21. I think they've only set the yields until the end of this month. I think that it'll be popular with Thai families heading into town for one or two nights so the school holidays will have an impact on the rates for the next couple of months. The one in BKK is going up next to Asoke so if I had an overnight stay in town to do an Embassy visit or similar I'd not worry too much about the room size if the price was under a grand.
  22. If I was headed to Pattaya for a couple of days, I'd look at maybe using it. I know that the three most important items for me (beds, showers and safety) are reputed to be excellent and I wouldn't be going to Pattaya to sit in a hotel room anyway (irrespective of the cost). For a couple of nights with enough aircon and internet time included (12+6 per day) came out at 720 Baht a night when I done a search. I think two nights, maybe three maximum, would be my limit though. No worries about towels as the curtains look pretty decent to me. It would certainly be higher up my pecking order than either the Carlton or the other place further down Sai 2.
  23. What's your issues with the posts about the Skytrax reviews. You claimed I was pretty harsh on the airline, but I didn't write the reviews. It was you, not I, who introduced Skytrax into the thread in your second post and now want to bury your head in the sand because, overall, those reviews aren't particularly complimentary. You had the option of Oman Air for 500 quid, or Sri Lankan for 450 quid. And you know that Oman offers a superior product. Shrewd or willing to take a gamble to save 50 quid?
  24. I don't think their target market is mongers on a 2 or 3 week vacation. We had one open in Hat Yai at the arse-end of last year and it has established a good reputation very quickly and does good business. It's not a new build like the other Tune properties so the rooms are a lot larger than what people expect. 750 Baht a night typically gets you a double room with 12 hours aircon and 6 hours wi-fi. There is one opening across from the new Terminal 21/Asoke skytrain on Sukhumvit (Soi 14) - could be worth it for a couple of days in BKK.
