  1. I often wished in the past that there was a consolidated search site for BKK hotels but until now I had never come across one that was halfway decent. The site is called Hotels Combined and searches most of the main agents. The search options are pretty extensive for those guys who want to specify a pool, internet, restaurant etc. The search that I done was for three nights this coming weekend on Sukhumvit in a 4* property and it threw up the Aspen Suites on Soi 2 for under 1,500 Baht/night, CentrePoint on Soi 10 for under 2,000 Baht/night and the Jasmine Suites on Soi 23 for 2,200 Baht/night. The site also covers bookings in Pattaya and obviously cheaper hotels than what I was looking for.
  2. The pics are probably sat in your cache. Clear it and try again.
  3. Quite. I though sport had two syllables. I remember on one of my early trips (before the days of internet or digital telephone connections) to Pattaya my missus booked me into what she assured me was called the Support Garden Hotel (what is now the Thai Garden Hotel) on Pattaya Nua. It took me two or three drives-past before the penny finally dropped. I feel sorry for you with McManaman - I can't understand much that he says. On the flip side of the coin, we've got one of my sporting heroes, John McEnroe, doing the tennis on BBC at the moment.
  4. Maybe they realised that Italians work on kg/cm.
  5. You should ask why she spells her name J-A-N-I-E. It's nothing to do with transliteration - she was born in the US and Janie is her name, no matter what you or Ning thinks. True story. I was visiting a Thai friend, Thip, who works as a classroom assistant at the Satit school of the local Rajabhat last Friday. Previously , the kids' English lessons had been delivered by a UK teacher and, for Prathom students, they were pretty comfortable using the language. Fast forward to this semester and an American teacher arrived on the scene. Now the poor kids are totally confused since they previously thought that a cluck was noise made by chickens only to now be told it's the thing hanging on the wall that shows the time (or tam as their new teacher insisted on calling it). Mr. "Tam on the Cluck", as they called him, lasted 4 weeks.
  6. Why? It's free. Was he a bouncer, or what? Yes, but were they Catholic or Protestant Pakis? I think most of the earlier south Asian immigrants that settled in Scotland integrated into the local communities better than say, some parts of Lancashire. I've got to say that most of them worked all hours and their kids/grandkids took full advantage of the education system. Urgh! One of the reasons I chose to live within spitting distance of the Duty Frees.
  7. You be careful, mate. They eat their young in East Kilbride.
  8. If I did, I would have started a thread on the subject. But I didn't. I don't know. A quick skim on this board provides plenty of examples of the English agonising about the Kaisers, Frogs, Poles, Pakis etc etc. LOL. We were too pissed to cause trouble. The only trouble I noticed was that Stan Colleymore character sticking one on the Swedish bird. Or are you suggesting it was really a Scot in fancy dress? Certainly, Stan chose to blame the Scots. Is it an English pastime, or what? So, who started the website? The shirts were being sold in Scotland by a company registered in Berkshire. I'll hold my hand up and admit to having purchased NZ, Aussie, French, Ireland, SA, Argentina, Japan and even Hong Kong and Fiji rugby shirts. You'd be kidding yourself if you thought it had anything to do with whoever England happened to be playing. Not idiot enough to think that ABE merchandise is some Scottish/Irish/Welsh enterprise.
  9. Klose was between Upson and the ball. Had he not been attempting to play the ball it could be viewed as obstruction but since he obviously was he was fully entitled to shield the ball as he did. If any foul was committed it was by Upson attempting to pull Klose from behind. Good advantage played by the ref and good play by Klose by not going to ground in search of a penalty when Upson took his hands away as they went into the box. Look on the bright side, at least it wasn't in the final. It's unfortunate that Germany have got Argentina in the next round - the match would have been better suited to the semis or the final itself.
  10. The deal was 'sold out' within a few hours.
  11. England were well beaten by the German U-21s in the Euro Final last year. A quick scan of the teams from then seems to indicate that the Germans learned something and progressed from there whereas the English didn't.
  12. Look at it from another angle. The English hate/look down on everybody. The other countries are just a bit more focussed, that's all.
  13. Not at all. Next up is my 'You call it Jenny, I call it Janie" video.
  14. What rule is that? He was trying to play the ball and was between the defender and the ball - perfectly legitimate, but the rule is abused by defenders all the time when they are shepherding the ball out of play without touching it.. I agree with dontcha - sounds a bit like sour grapes. I think the Germans can be really proud of what their young, albeit not inexperienced, team achieved against a team that saw themselves as potential tournament winners.
  15. It was a qualification game for the 2002 WC.
  16. Is that the same Owen who got a brace against Japan recently?
  17. Air Asia's Latest Deals from BKK are shown below. Note the booking and travel dates. A return trip works out at 1,900 THB round trip, all-inclusive as per the example HDY-BKK-HDY.
  18. I thought that the guys on this board had been pretty good so far during the World Cup. Lots of light-hearted banter and piss-taking kept the various threads entertaining. Of course, it was too good to last and there had to be one Bozo who would show himself up to be a clueless fuckwit. Well done, Vic. If nothing else, you are consistent.
  19. There's nowt wrong with being an Irish/European Jew. Leopold Bloom was one of Joyce's great characters.
  20. I haven't forgotten , but since Israel isn't part of the European Union I can't see that it's particularly relevant in this thread.
  21. Agreed. It looked like BC was having a really good time. He seems like a decent enough bloke.
  22. I'm sure you are. Just as I'm sure that you are an Irish/European citizen. I wouldn't get upset about it - it's a big plus as far as I'm concerned.
  23. You need to make up your mind. You were claiming to be a citizen of the European Union a couple of weeks ago.
  24. That's a bit rich coming from a thick Irishman.
  25. Don't forget where it all started ......
