  1. I looked at this from within and also from outside Thailand and sending some things over. I only have experience from Singapore and the UK to recount though but many different items. From Singapore, all was fine. No special post or courier. All arrived with no issues or requests for payment. From the UK, varied results. When posted with a courier such as Fed Ex, UPS, Parcel Force etc. it raises flags. Documents and paperwork including quasi books and manuals has all flown through. When bought direct, the cost of the shipping has been added to the value of the item for customs for Fex E
  2. If the decision is that you have to live in a cheap room and you have to eat cheap food and you have to limit where you can drink and you have to avoid things which you now say are overpriced but which you used to enjoy when you had more money, then life has lost all meaning and you are living in an appalling version of a bad dream, surrounded by things which you have to convince yourself are overpriced, simply because you cannot afford them. There is economising but going so far, just to postpone the inevitable return date whilst chucking away money from a job seems daft to me.
  3. Shops and a go-go eh ? The mind boggles at the Thais and their stupidity. Escalators at last though. Too little too late.
  4. The Thiefrow Express virtually never takes the quoted 15 minutes. I've used it maybe 50+ times. Plus, it doesn't go from Kings Cross either. You have to get your arse from Kings Cross to Paddington and when you get off the train, there are no baggage trolleys sitting around, no, they are 500m down the platform and they want £1 or £2 to get them moving. So how do you get to Paddington ? Taxi ? ok, but expensive. Want the tube ? sorry, no lifts so please lug your bags down the escalator and then down and around corners to get to the Piccadilly line. At LHR, drag bags along miles or corridors to
  5. The simple fact is that one could get a 2 bed house in East Pattaya for 5k a month. Just off Soi Khaotalo for example. Everything you need onsite and local. I'm not doubting this house may be fine, but the location means it is worth well, not a lot. Someone spent maybe 5m building a house in my partner's village. It is nice, but probably only worth about 2m if they wanted to sell it and perhaps not even that, all due to its location. At some low price, someone will put up with the location. That is what I am saying but that price is not 10k.
  6. And he is on a salary of Bt15,000 a month !
  7. Start at the UK end and you'll find that many suppliers get cheaper and better stuff from Malaysia and India as well as some coming in from China. I know as a mate of mine owns and works the complete business from growing the wood overseas all the way to retail of the finished products in the UK. It is not an easy market to get involved in. Everyone and his dog has shit for sale on Ebay and doing large volumes is impossible for many items because your end retail outlets don't have the volume to take huge quantities from you. Adding in another layer of UK wholesaler is going to kill you pro
  8. I see what is happening more clearly now but you do have to watch out for a couple of things. You are presumably aware that there are a number of prices connected with condos (and houses for that matter) and you should have the figure you are paying tax on as well as the price paid. These may be the same but it is the tax paid price which relates to your FET. Check that they are not buying and reselling it to you and working some sort of loss or gain (whichever way around they do it). People such as Fair Properties and others were always using this scam, pushing things through right at
  9. I think that is the train £15 each way. Hell of a trip though. 3+ hours on the train then another 1 or 2 hour fuck around to either Paddington for the Heathrow Express or the bus / tube to Heathrow. I'd be flying out of NCL.
  10. Agreed if you are going to do volumes. A lot of legwork though if the idea is a non starter. The OP does not state whether the is looking at supplying the Thai or export market.
  11. The FET (Foreign Exchange Transaction) document (TT3) must state that the money is solely for the purpose of condominium purchase. I do not see how you can buy a TT3 and if someone says they can then they are doing something fishy. I would also not send the money to anyone else. I hope you are ok.
  12. Way, way overpriced. The key money being annual could allude to only an annual rolling contract !!!!! 9 rooms, say Bt650 as quoted and 50% occupancy, then daily room contribution is Bt325. Daily cost of rent it 45,000*12+200,000/365/9=Bt225 and your bills per room are more than Bt100 so you need more than 50% occupancy to break even. 75% occupancy only gives another Bt162.5 a day which might give you Bt100 a day profit per room or around 300/350k a year.
  13. For the last few months of 2009, Eva's best prices, by some margin, were on their own website. It is not the most user friendly set up but manageable. From £476 all inclusive up to 1 month, they say from 29/03 but I'd check they don't really mean fly until 29/3 outbound. Would seem more logical and their website often has typos. Have a look at this http://www.evaair.com/html/b2c/english/dea.../ETH+011+ETW009 West East's offers here http://www.westeasttravel.com/user/strPage.asp?idlink=27 I'd phone Trailfinders as well.
  14. Bangkok is so vast that it is impossible to say. My mate had a nice studio for 12k and then a 1 bed for 16k but out a bit. If you want to be next to NEP, you'll pay for it. One of the best deals at the moment is the Aspen on Soi 2 with rooms inclusive of cleaning and electric for Bt38,000 a month http://www.aspenbangkok.com/z1039/promotions.html Houses and stuff you'll have to look into. Try Thai Visa and the Bangkok subforum. http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Bangkok-Forum-f38.html Try their classifieds as well. The thing about Bangkok is that you need to be relatively near to where you w
  15. Nope, coriander is the plant, the leaves, the seeds, including the roots if you use them. It is all coriander. Now if someone wants to call the seeds cilantro, then fine but they are coriander seeds ! There isn't some magic cilantro plant which makes cilantro seeds.
  16. I looked at Humberside one year when thinking about a quick return to the UK to renew a visa, thinking that it would be far easier to get to Hull from Humberside airport than Heathrow. It was stupid money for the trip to Amsterdam, really stupid money. Then, adding in the cost of actually getting to Hull and back (remember time was important) I figured out it was easier and cheaper to fly into Manchester or London, take the train and taxi it from the train centre. Back on topic, Humberside is expensive and has very limited flights. The answer is to go to Manchester. If you can't be bothere
  17. Cilantro is coriander ! Just a daft Yank name for it Always have some in the house for Thai and non Thai cooking and salads.
  18. Thinking of Scotland and the deep fried Mars bar, I then thought of some very nice salmon (and other fish varieties) fish cakes I have had over the years. Always expensive, to get something very special. Could eat one right now actually.
  19. If a contract come up, take it ! You never know when the next one will come around.
  20. Why on earth do people add tomato ketchup or purée to things to fuck the taste up completely ?
  21. You mean coriander ? What is this cilantro crap ?
  22. You won't get a multi entry B from a nearby consulate or embassy (some exceptions I agree). If you had a job offer, you could get your multi B from Hull in the UK. You could use your job offer letter or any number of other reasons to get it. Very easy. However, if you arrive without a multi B or never had a job offer, say you were on holiday and then got a job offer, you need to get a non imm visa. It does not have to be a B, but if you take all the paperwork to Penang for instance, then you'll get a single entry because they want your stay to be connected to your WP, which the extension of st
