  1. The LK Ren. 1-bedroom suite is VERY nice. I just left a suite in MGM Grand Vegas (God knows what it would have cost) and it had nothing over LK Ren's suite. IMHO the Ren beats the Metro. I would drop the LK Royal from the list. RG is fine, but one notch down, Expect nice decently large clean rooms. You really need to decide how much you want to spend.
  2. FWI, Summer Spring has same ownership as Sandy Spring, which has a solid rep., I would not worry about the CC issue. Be careful walking in not to get hit on the head by Korean tourists jumping off the balcony though
  3. And what on earth is UBC? I don't think I am a total idiot in this area, but can not even guess what you are asking about. Uired Broadband Connection is my best guess to date.
  4. Mesc, if you fly often you might price a one way trip SFO->BKK then round trips BKK->SFO->BKK I haven't priced CI on this recently, but I do fly this way on BR (EVA) and believe they match prices closely. It's a bigger saving than 2 one way tickets if you can plan it well enough. Even if you can't, the small change fee is likely less than the savings.
  5. No argument that SQ is the best airline if we ignore price, but it is expensive. A year ago I used my Delta miles for an F ticket to BKK and I doubt that flight experience could be beat. But seriously, you can fly for half the cost on either EVA or CI and you don't have to go through Singapore. Yes, Thai is more direct, but still costlier. I fly EVA in exec economy for about $1100 round trip or either EVA or CI for about $2100 round trip to the west coast USA. I can not come even close to this price on SQ.
  6. FWI, they are unrelated beers. The San Mig from PI has been around for a long time and has no relationship to the Spanish beer.
  7. Could you post a followup after your stay? It is in my "area if interest" wrt hotels, and would like to hear some recent coments. TIA.
  8. Some interesting comments. I have been in Bob's twice, and both times thought it was fine. If you want US food, it's solid. I really prefer cheap Thai places, so I don't go to this type place often. But that's just my preference.
  9. I mean at checkin. Have stayed 3 times and never paid in full. The girl quotes me the price, and ask for payment. I say I will pay X and pay rest later. She says OK.
  10. They ASK you to pay in full, but you can offer partial and they will accept. Always good in case something comes up.
  11. Seconded, though "harsh" is probably not the right word. I drink easily 25 beers a day when in Pats, and it's a lot easier with a light beer. Sam Mik Light is as easy to find as any beer other than the 2 Thai beers, virtually every beer bar has it.
  12. I would like to disagree with your point about extra charges for utilities. In Thailand, the utility cost vs labour cost is FAR higher than in the western world. This charge is really standard in Thai for long time stays, Other than that, your post is spot on.
  13. OK, here's the unbiased lowdown as quick as I can summarise it. The location is on a stupid soy (15) that runs crooked and therfor WAS inconvient to get to from second road. This changed when the new mall opened, and is now not an issue (you just walk through the mall). They still have their tuktuk that was usefull before, but it doesn't take you all over town, what's the deal? Other hotels don't either. The hotel is new and the mechanics are excellent. The two drawback I would list are that the standard rooms are a little small, and sometimes you might get noise from the room next to you (I havn't, but enough have said this that I believe it). There is NO construction or bar noise. I have stayed there twice, and will stay again. I would compare it to the Sabai Wing or Sandy Spring. It is newer, but a little higher priced.
  14. When I said limited monitor space I meant limited physical space tp place your monitors (not lack of pixel space on you monitor). At work I usually have 2-3 montors with a boat load of boxes. It's just not always possible to just put another monitor on my desk. Skytop - In the vase majority of case I agree with you. But I do sometime work on various sundry equipment that this will not work. I am certain that in some situations a KVS is helpfull for me. That's why I don't question the OP (though I do like your suggestion to him).
  15. If you are using miles, then I think you have to go through Vancuver and HongKong or Tokyo with AC or UA. If you are on your on dime, I would go to Vancuver on AC, then take EVA Airlines (BR) through Tapei (Or China Air (CI) if they leave from there). I depart from Atlanta, and just get to the west cost however, from there I take BR and it is quite economical. I go through SF, but Vancuver prices about the same. The routes through Europe do not work.
  16. Is Tukcom that huge mall/store on South Pattaya about 1 block east of 2'nd with all electronics? If so, I think you can get anything there. A really Kool place. And RedRack, there are many reasons for wanting to do this, so I am not even going to question the poster. The most common is that you have limited monitor space. Probably 1/2 the people in my old office had a KVM because we all had mutliple computers and only room for 2-3 monitors.
  17. The general view is that Melatonin does help you adjust to the day/night cycle better. I am not clear how this helps somebody traveling to Pattaya or Las Vegas :-)
  18. BTW, I stayed there 10 days durring their grand openning special (50% off). The suites were VERY nice (but the day rate is way up there).
  19. "are you jocking?" Well, I was there 2 weeks ago (in room 611? which is closest to most of the construction) and never heard a peep (except for the one time I had left the balcony door open because I had a fire in the microwave). The hotel is well back off soy 15, in case you havn't noticed. The biggest construction going on is closer the the Areca, but I doubt you here it there either.
  20. Some of this is just too funny. The hotel is right behnd the new mall. From the driveway of the hotel to the back entrance of the mall is 50 meters. The poster gripped that the tuktuk driver wouldn't take him to soy Dianna. It's a 300m walk, get real. There is NO construction noise (or music from nearby bars). Where does this dude stay? BTW, I do agree the standard rooms are a little small. I only would stay in a delux. But the aircon, hot water, etc. are the best I have ever seen in Pattaya.
  21. A lot doesn't match. If I spend b3000 on ladie drinks (minus my 3 beers), I doubt I could shake the girl off me. Also, if I am talking with (and buying drinke for) a girl and she goes to greener pastures, that's life. How does the OP not know this when he has been around the block. How is it that I hear about all the stories and yet have not seen aything more than an occasional bin stuffing? Somehow I suspect that the OP started the confrotation, even if not physically.
  22. Huh? I have about 15 or so trips on the Tapai airlines arriving on the west coast (SFO/LAX) and connecting to Atlanta, never once with a delay. Remind me never to fly with you :-)
  23. I assumed the link was spam or semi-spam, but being bored I followed it anyway. The link is to a simple list of hotel+location+phone+www Perhapse the best "quick ref" list of hotels I have seen, congrats and thanks. To fellow boardies, it's a nice quick link and suggeest you send the dude any contact info on other hotels you would like added. I would even suggest moving this thread to a sticky. Thanks, dad :-)
  24. True, EVA has just gone up, but not that much. Shop harder. Just 1 day ago I purchased SFO->BKK roundtrip in Delux for $1200 (jan21 departure, so not much advance). Given that I am gold at EVA, I am 50% to get bumped up to biz class so this is not that bad a deal. I would never pay $1400 for an econnomy ticket across the Pacific, that's absurd. If you are buying EVA through the website, you got to click, and click, and click. Eventually you will find a cheap tick.
  25. Don't know. There was one weak beacon (open) that I could pick up in my room. A little iffy (they left the name the ever popular "linksys", so I have no idea if was the hotel's or somebody else's). I did see people using notebooks in the lobby but never tried myself (as I usually prefer a non-hotel bar/pub/cafe once out of my bed, and that took me a 100ft walk). No inroom wired LAN.
