Wow, this league filled up fast Remember there are only 10 spots in the league. This one is for serious players. Hopefully, we will have guys who will be competitive from the first game till the playoffs. Talking smack will be encouraged and personally, I think making trades once the draft is done just adds to the fun. So far the managers are: Me joined Tangent invited RhinoTusk invited Verstein invited BigKev invited I am also holding a spot for Hammer, Greg_B, Gary, and Gilly. As of these guys played last year and had expressed an interest in being in this years league. That makes 9 who are either in, invited, or waiting for a reply. The last spot goes to the first taker. But again, let me remind you that I know all but one of these guys and they all know their shit. This league is for the serious players. Once we have all 10 "joined" we'll do a quick vote to see if we as a league want to expand it to 12. Personally, I like the 10 team format because we all end up with more talent. And we can always start another league if more guys show an interest.. Shilo

I have gotten several PM's from guys wanting to play in an NFL fanasty football league. Last year we gave it a go on Yahoo which was ok but it had it's limitations. So this year I decided to check out the ESPN system. This year, I think that the game will be much more competitive and we have a lot of cool options 1st there will be a limit of just 10 teams in the league. This will mean that everyone has a chance to fill their rosters with talent. 2nd if we can agree on a day and time, there will be a LIVE draft. No more of this computer generated crap. But for those who miss the draft time, the computer will still pick the team for you based on the preset order you have chosen for your draft board. I would suggest that we schedule the live draft on a weekend night at 11pm New York time. That would make it reasonable for most of the Americans, be some time in the morning in Thailand, and hopefully, not to late for our friends in England and the rest of Europe. But I'm open to other suggestions... 3rd the scoring will reward your players for performance and punish them for their failings. Anyone who is interested in playing, send me a PM with your (real) name and email address. The ESPN system is set up so that I'll need to send invites to the team owners. Remember, there are only 10 spots so it's first come, first play Shilo

Actually, I wouldn't mind going into the season with just the 7 managers who have signed up so far. I know most of these guys and know that they take the league seriously and can pick great teams. This year's FLB league is going to be very competitive If anyone else wants to join, that's great. And if your either new or an old hand with the EPL, I think it'll be fun. But after looking over the "short" list of guys who make up the orginal 7, I'd say that anyone else who wants to join had better bring their best game or expect to be toast by Christmas... Note: last year there were about 260,000 player on the EPL site (about the same this year) and the guys who were at the head of the FLB league beat about 95% of them Shilo

The NFL will always be my first love.... but English Football is moving into a close second Why they call it "The Beautiful Game" http://www.killsometime.com/Video/video.as...o=Soccer-Skillz http://www.killsometime.com/video/video.as...Soccer-Skills-2 (Hint: right click on the video and choose full screen for the best picture") 10 more days till kick off

You must be talking about the NFL league we had last year... yep, after leading the pack for most of the regular season, I got my hat handed to me in the playoffs. But in the EPL I came in third behind Gilly and Belem. This year in the EPL league I don't plan to be seeing anyones rear side We'll see what interest there is for an NFL league later this month. Anyone interested in the EPL had better sign up soon.... only 12 more days till kickoff

That makes 5 teams so far... Pieman, take a look at this link: http://www.thepaperboy.com.au/uk/ You can get most of the online newspapers to follow the teams for free. And if you guys like more active boards where there is more banter going on between the league managers you might want to look at the leagues on the other boards: Nanaplaza, Ajarn and OFB. Those guys seem to get into it more then here on the FLB. To join the other leagues just look for a link "manage leagues" on your team page and type in the code for the other leagues that I posted at the beginning of this thread. Shilo

Normally, I would post this on the "members" board but I am getting tired of having my knuckles slapped "for posting in the wrong section". Christ, you would think that after 3 years and over 700 posts (real ones mind you, not those one-liners some seem to like to inflate their posting rank....smile) that I would have earned the right to post what I like where I like. Oh well, it just means that I post on other boards more often For those who are interested, the Premierleague.com site is starting to set up leagues for the new season. I've picked my starting lineup and have entered the Ajarn.com league and will be trying my hand with the Nana board guys this time around. http://ajarnforum.net/phpbb/index.php The Code to join the Ajarn Forum league is 19226-4126 and http://board.nanaplaza.com/info/index.php NPF League 61916-12192 Gilly if your out there is cyber land and see this you might want to start another FLB league or some of you guys can always check in with the other boards. Hopefully, GregB will start another NFL league for those of us who are interested. Shilo

There is always a chance. This year alone we saw a team (Southampton) drop from the EPL after being there for the past 27 years and be replaced by a team (West Brom) that was dead last at Christmas.... And we saw another team (Everton) who was expected to be amoung the group who would fight to stay up in the EPL finish 4th and take what might end up being the final spot in next years Champion's League away from the team (Liverpool) who could end up with the Cup.... There is always a chance, that's why they play the game

It looks like I may be able to join you guys this year. I try to come in Nov around the American holiday (Thanksgiving) but this year a holiday trip would mean missing two home games for my Football team.... so I just sent off an email to my travel agent and should be in Pattaya for the first week of November. PS: My golf game is crap so count my score towards the Americans Team's handicap Shilo

Leadbelly, I hope Alan answers you questions because I wouldn't mind reading them as well... But here is a thought. 15-20K per month works out to about 500-650 per day on a 30 day month. You might consider looking around for a hotel room in that range for your first couple of months. My guess is that you would find several that would offer that rate on a 30 day basis for a room that would otherwise cost maybe 700-750 per night. Then your in the town, have the freedom to take your time looking around for a place to live, and you have the added bonus of the maid service and so on.... Just a thought Shilo

This question comes up all the time..... living and or retiring in Thailand is a common dream. There are to many variables to give an easy answer but I'll share the best one that I heard.... 20K per month you can survive, but your one miss step away from slippery side of a balcony.... 40K is the min for a falung and at this level you'll need a cheap wife and a reasonable understanding of the language to get by. 60-80K would give many of us what we had at home. Money to put a roof over your head, food on the table, clothes on your back, and a chance to go out for some entertainment a couple of nights a week. 100-120K is enough to give you what most of us want. An extention of what we have grown accustom to on our holiday trips Shilo

At last.... 2 1/2 yrs I been checking this section and finally I found someone getting into town on the same day and about the same time as me rumor1126 I sent you a PM.... Let's share that ride and a beer or three Shilo

Well it looks like NWA is trying creative ways to raise their prices. I have always gotten my tickets in Sept for $760 (+tax) from the midwest to BKK. But my travel agent says that there is now another charge of $35 for travel on weekends (Fri, Sat, Sun). It sucks because I always leave on a Friday and return on a Sunday An extra $70 or about a 10% increase..... Still, traveling half way around the world for $830 plus tax still seems like a deal Shilo

Saigon Butterfly, For what it's worth, I just got off the phone with NWA and booked my flight for July 2005 using my airmiles. It cost me 60K in miles and $50 for the taxes. I may call them back at the end of the week to change the return date because I'm not sure at this point if I am going to LOS for one week or two. But if I do call them back and make any changes to the booking then there would be no cost and if I cancel the trip then the $50 that I paid for taxes would be credited back to my credit card. I think the secert is to book very early. You can book the flight 352 days in advance (which is why I would have to call back at the end of the week to make a change if I decide to go for two weeks) and it's a BIG plus to be in the Plat Elite level. They seem to bend over backwards to keep their best customers happy. You have to be Plat Elite to make changes to bookings without a cost. Shilo

Guys, I have a new litte probelm that is becoming a "Pain in the Ass" My teenage son talked me into upgrading the OS on my computer from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. Overall, I have to agree with him that the new system is much better. But after the upgrade something has happened where now when I come to the board and clink on a link I move to the next page and read the thread but when I click the back button, instead of taking me back to where I left off on the last past it takes me to the top of the previous page and I have to scroll back down to the last thread that I click... Worst of all, it doesn't happen all of the time. Maybe 10% of the time I click the back button and I return to where I left off. So I don't think that it is a simple matter of changing a prefference in the options screen. Any ideas on what I can do to fix this "problem"? Shilo

BigDUSA, Take a look at Angel Travel http://www.angeltravel.com/ If your planning to go after Aug 31 it looks like Ann might be able to get you in a seat for $760 on United. http://www.angeltravel.com/Airfare/United/...Zone_n_Fare.htm Good luck, Shilo

As I mentioned in a different post I have been flying to LOS on NWA. I book through Angel Travel and have been getting my tickets for $760 in the off season and $1025 during the peak season. I have been hording my airmiles to be used many years from now when I retire to make trips home. I'll be up to about 300K of airmiles by the end of this year which is good for about 5 trips at 60K per trip. Starting next year I am thinking about booking 5 trips a year for one week each. As I also mentioned, I would like to go for longer vacations but the one week hits mean that I can go over about once every 2-3 months and it's easier on my worklife to spread them out that way. Going forward, I'm thinking about booking trips in Jan, April, July, Sept and Nov. All of them fall in what the airline would call off season except for the July trip which is high season for the airlines. So I'll pay for the 4 low season trips ($760X4) and use airmiles for the July trip. It'll work out to about $3000 for the 4 tickets, plus one trip free and leave me with 120K airmiles left over to add to the "retirement bank". But here is my question: should I continue to book with just NWA or should I start anew after the beginning of the year with United? I can start fresh with United, get a credit card and other stuff to give me about 20K miles off the bat. And it seems that the cost is about the same as NWA through Angel Travel. United also seems to have a partnership with Thai Air and a few others that go to LOS and in some cases a better schedule then the NWA arrangement of always getting to LOS at 23:30 and having to leave at 6am. I know that United is having financial problems but so is the whole industry. I'm thinking that it might come down to service and the ability to use the airmiles when I'm ready. Has anyone used both United and NWA and would care to share an opinion of which is best.... Shilo

I guess I must be one of the only guys on this board that has had good experiences with NWA I always book my trips through Angel Travel http://www.angeltravel.com/ It's owned by a Thai lady who now lives in Chicago. I get my tickets for $760 in the off season and pay $1025 in the peak season. http://angeltravel.com/Airfare/Northwest%2...Zone_n_Fare.htm I have booked a flight this Christmas leaving on 12/24 and getting back on 1/9 with airmiles (90K). But the secert was to call and ask when was the first date that I could book which was about 330 days before the return date. I called on that day and they said that they didn't have any economy seats which would have used 60K miles so I went ahead and used the 90K miles to book Business Class. At the moment I am trying to decide if I'll keep the booking or make a change. I'm going to be in LOS at the end of Nov for a week and then going home for 3 weeks and then back again to Los for 2 weeks over the holidays. The more I think about it the less sence it seems to make. The Christmas/New Years holidays can be a pain in the ass in some ways. I may keep the Nov trip but cancel the one at the end of the year. If I do it then I could go over in Sept, Nov (as planned) and then back again in late Jan or mid Feb. I don't like the long dry spells between trips and would rather make more (shorter) trips about once every 3 months or so... Decisions... decisions... decisions Shilo

Chimp, I highly recommend the Sabai Lodge. I've stayed there several times and it's my favorite if for no other reason then location. Ling, I don't know for sure but I think it may be because you booked into their new cottages. I think they made all of them non-smoking but I don't think there is a problem in the other rooms. Shilo

Well this is one American that would have loved to have joined you guys but it came down to a choice between the Golf outing and Loi Krathong... and with Loi Krathong being the same week this year as an American holiday which adds a day to my vacation... well, there is always next year :crying Shilo

I agree that it doesn't make sence to change the date each year because it suits one member or another but on the other hand I think it's a wasted opportunity to get everyone together around the Loi Krathong holiday and not make adjustments so we can all enjoy both events Rather then setting the match for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd ect week of Nov each year, why not just set the date for the Monday of the week of Loi Krathong. True, that may cause an adjustment to the actual date each year but the upside is that many of us won't have to choose between the golfing and Loi Krathong ;D Shilo
