  1. You beat me to it. I was just going to post this story too. If it floods again, I am going to think twice about slogging through the water on foot.
  2. Guys, get your minds out of the gutter. To lostgirl, you might have similar problems to any non-Thai working here, especially if you don't speak Thai. Most jobs that have a requirement for English to be spoken also have an implicit expectation that you will be able to speak Thai to fellow employees. Perhaps you could find something in the tourism sector, for example, the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) that targets increasing and promoting tourism from Vietnam. You will, of course, need a proper visa and a work permit to work legally.
  3. That link didn't work for me (on my mobile, at least), so here is a more direct link http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/56292-myras-birthday-and-then-the-deluge/page__pid__913654#entry913654 The topic didn't address only the storm and flooding, but put it in the context of the evening at FLB.
  4. Based on the topic title, it is probably this one http://www.pattayaphotoguide.com/?LHvRUsfrkcABADGA
  5. How deft and diplomatic! Bizarre is not the word I would use!
  6. Maybe he bought them a drink! Thirty days before? That's pathetic. Lovedog would have been there after an hour.
  7. I could have done without the last one.
  8. I like your fallback plan to use Firefox
  9. I managed to get IE 9 so it won't display the video...it shows a box that would bound the video, but has no content other than a small X icon. I did this by going to the tools icon, click Safety. There is an item ACTIVE X FILTERING. Make sure it is unchecked. I made it checked and then the video did not play.
  10. Yeah, and you're a spammer too..bye bye.
  11. Based on your recommendation, I tried the Roo Bar steak sandwich, and there is no way it could be described as the "Best steak sandwich in Pattaya.". However, it did only cost 75 baht, so maybe you like that it is really cheap.
  12. Click on this link http://www.ustream.t...attaya-thailand and you can see Walking Street in front of FLB while the bar is open (7pm to 3am Thai time). Judge for yourself. The streets are busy...at least, Walking Street is very busy and crowded, but the people walking tend to be more walkers/gawkers than indoor customers. Damn! I just saw some tumbleweed.
  13. As much as I loathe IE anymore, I brought it up (IE 8), read this post, followed the link to the post with the video, and it displays correctly. It's not an IE issue alone, at least with the version I am using. I gotta pass on this one.
  14. From http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2008/01/09/falling-man.html
  15. To me it sounds like Caan, as in James Caan, or Khan as in Genghis Khan.
  16. I was going to add Bliss Lounge and a few other "important" locations, but couldn't get zoomed in enough to make the bounding box anything but a bunch of dots. I must have missed something. Did you have any trouble outlining your house?
  17. Yeah, dave, what's up with that?
  18. Hmmm. That's a really good deal. Now, if I said I want a driver and car for 3 hours (750baht), that would cover the time for him to drive me to the airport and return...hehe. I suspect he'd say "no airport".
  19. Sept is going to be the beginning of the climb into high season, though high season accommodation rates don't kick in for another month, usually. The weather has been superb, especially for the "hot hot" season. Little rain, cool days and nights...it's a real anomaly, but I'm enjoying it. We haven't had much rain at all, so if we are to make our averages, it's going to be pouring down soon...or be a very dry wet season.
  20. No, he sort of brushed that point aside while he was explaining rather arrogantly how (continental) Europeans (e.g. Belgian, French or Swiss...can't recall which he is) had a different standard for meat cooking. The experience did somewhat detract from the dinner's ambiance, I will admit.
  21. Damn! This is making me hungry!
  22. I stumbled on this site while googling around, and found that it gives very good, seemingly up-to-date, locations of businesses, bars, hotels, hospitals, parks etc. It's a wiki, so it is up to the user community to add locations and venues. Pattaya is well represented on there. The link above goes to the Pattaya area. You can use your mouse to zoom in, pan, and access the menu. The upper right corner has a search box, and you can type in a search term for a map location.
  23. Yeah, stinkers are easy to find.
  24. I've not been back, but not because of that ... or is it? Maybe I lost a bit of enthusiasm for the dining experience there. Every other time I have been there, it has been very good. I'd not hesitate to recommend it, but you should be aware that the owner, if you happen to have reason to deal with him, might be rather frustrating to deal with. I've also curtailed my restaurant eating in favor of a home cooked meal like this from 2 nights ago:
  25. Mata Hari is very good. I'd recommend it for a fine dining experience. One thing tho...last time I ordered the Steak Diane along with my GF who ordered the same. We both asked for "medium rare". Hers came pinkish, mine came blood red (or "blue" as some call it). I requested it be sent back to be cooked some more, and the owner came over and told me that my steak was cooked "medium rare" by his standards (European). I pointed at my GFs steak, which looked the way I wanted mine to be, saying it was ordered "medium rare" as well. He sort of ignored that, so I changed tack and said that the last time I ordered that dish, it was prepared correctly. I asked if he had a new cook. He got quite miffed and said, "No, she has been with me 17 years! She is my wife!" At that point, I just said "Could you ask your wife to cook it a bit more, please?" I'd order the chicken or fish if you don't want to have an argument about cooking standards. Seriously, though, the food is very good.
