I'm guessing you are hiding the fact that you once got a discount or even free room because you convinced the owner your "people" would follow your recommendation and stay there in droves. I also think if the owner has paid any attention, he has realized that you have created a publicity nightmare for him, and has probably stopped giving you a discount.

I can't disagree with anything you have said above. BigD touting Skytop or going on about his international political connections is similarly unbelievable. Next we'll hear that Andropov and Kissinger recommend Skytop above all other accommodations in Pattaya, because they are "good value for the baht". BigD is a shill, but I have no idea why. You know, what is apparent from this topic, is that everyone seems to have a different view of the world, its regions, how groups of land are categorized...seemingly dependent on the origin of the person. Looking from the USA point of view is different from the Australia or UK or Irish or French views. The point of the poll was to find out if the Americans/yanks were the predominant population of the board. I then thought it would be useful to do geographic breakdowns, but they weren't all inclusive, some didn't like being grouped with the groups I listed...it's turned into an educational experience indeed. If you look here, you'll see (at this moment) that of the top 10 posters in this particular thread, 8 were non-Americans. How much of an overwhelming majority do you need before you feel at home? After another counting, of the top 20 posters in this thread (at present), 3 are North Americans.
