I'm really just guessing here, but I suspect the push to allow 24 hour opening comes from the places like Insomnia, Mixx, Lucifers, Candyshop, Torus, JP Bar...all the late night venues that cater to customers after 3-4am. They'd love to stay open till 7am/8am, but after that time, every bar in Pattaya can open. So, it's really a push to get another 4 or 5 hours of open time for the late night crowd. Most bars, even the latest night gogos, need to let their staff go home at 4am or so,, or pony up for another shift. Ain't gonna happen. It's all about late night discos.

Just curious to both of you. When was the last time you were in Pattaya? It's because I get the impression neither of you have been here for a long time, so therefore you have no standing, AFAIK. You could prove me wrong, of course

I had a 2 for 1 coupon from UAL, so I called a monger friend of mine who'd gone to China with me the year before, and said "Let's go to Costa Rica". He said "I wanna go to Thailand. Here look at this website". I looked and didn't see anything I liked, but since I was getting the frequent flier miles and he was paying for half the ticket, I compromised and said "Ok, but only for 10 days!". By day 3, I had fallen in love with a lovely faced girl with big stretch marks who worked at Morning-Night Bar at Nana. I spent most of my remaining time with her, booked a ticket to return in 2 months to spend a month traveling around Thailand with her, and when she said "How much you pay me every day?", I came to my senses. She used every trick in the book on me, and I had no idea how clueless I was. After that, I alternated months in Thailand with months in the states until I finally decided to move here. I was such a noob. Incidentally, my friend met a girl on that first trip, announced to me that she was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen, came back a few months later and married her. They are still together, living in Thailand.

The primary attraction of both Jade and Kinarree is that they are out of the way, and in residential neighborhoods. Many expats with wives or liveins go there to avoid being seen in such a public place as Soi 6. They are not really competing with Soi 6 in quality, quantity or intensity. They serve a purpose, but as a place to go for an unattached male monger, they really wouldn't be all that exciting, except just to say you've been there. This is not to say that they don't have nice looking girls or decent rooms, it's just saying that they wouldn't hold a candle to Soi 6 if you were just interested in seeing a large selection. Neither of them have more than a few dozen girls working at one time. Compare that to Soi 6 which has hundreds.

The fuss is that I was held up in the scanner for a couple of minutes, where before there were scanners, I was through the metal detector in 5 seconds. Multiply that by the thousands of people going through the airport and you have a big backup. It might get faster when everyone understands that absolutely everything in your pockets has to be emptied out, even plastic items...something I didn't know. I might get through faster now that I have been conditioned to sheepdom like they want. Or, maybe you didn't have such a cunt operating the machine as I did. See, the fact that you got through in 15 seconds does not negate the fact that many people are delayed by the new system, for whatever reason, nor does it eliminate the fact that they are looking at your private parts without your consent.

And after all I described in my last experience, the topping on the cake was when I looked over at the scanner operator, and she was laughing and holding two fingers an inch apart. Hey, it's shrinkage. It's cold in SF. How can this stand?
