Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule
Samsonite replied to BigDUSA's topic in Idle Chit Chat
Ice clogged the fuel screens, with the same end result, loss of power. Rolls supposedly modified the heat exchangers to solve the problem. -
Airbus and Boeing products running behind schedule

Two or three years ago a 777 with Rolls Royce engines landed short of the runway at Heathrow for the same reason. No one was killed, but the aircraft was a write off. -

That is correct. A Thai business partner is required under Thai law for most, but not all, foreign "owned" businesses. The post-op ladyboy was the Thai business partner of the original German owner (founder) of the AngelWitch in Bangkok and Pattaya. It was the German's money and business acumen that made the AngelWitch a success. He also owned the AngelWitch name separately and outright (no Thai involvement required there) and sold the name to the new owners. Rumor has it, and this was alluded to in Stickman's most recent column, that the former Thai business partner has poached as much as 70-80% of the staff of the Pattaya AngelWitch. Here you go. Take camera , or use smartphone? Megapixels?
Samsonite replied to Obsession's topic in Idle Chit Chat
That is completely ass backwards. A wide angle wide lens will distort facial feature, e.g., make the nose appear wider than it really is, etc. Using the 35mm film equivalent (or full frame DSLR sensor) the proper focal length for head and shoulder shots would be 105mm, but one could get away with an 85mm, especially if shooting from the chest or waist up. For three quarter length shots, just just above the knees up, the "normal" 50mm will do nicely. For full length portraits I wouldn't go wider than 35mm , but you will get better results with the 50mm if you have the room to move back from the subject. Anything else will result in distortation, but some people like that. Back on ignore you go. -

Ferang, Germanic tribes, France, Mongols and Persian
Samsonite replied to angelic's topic in Idle Chit Chat
The last time I research this, many years ago, everything I found said it was derived from a French word. When I have the time I'll research it again. -

Sorry, seriously disagree! -

The word is, farang, and its origins is, IIRC, French. http://www.into-asia.com/thai_language/farang.php http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=farang -

Where was this old Pattaya pier in 1984?
Samsonite replied to Chris100UK's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
That is how I felt about it, but Pattaya Pete did a video for the FLB with the girls dancing on that pier. Stronger than it looked, I guess. Perhaps, it was made of teak? It was torn down in the winter/spring of 2006. Here is the video: http://www.pattayatalk.com/forums/topic/8-pattaya-city-the-flb-song/ -
Thai Airways crash Bangkok Airport 8th Sept
Samsonite replied to Brown1950's topic in Airline Discussion
T. T.I.T. What did you expect, this is Thailand. As to the media, well, most of them wouldn't know a Cessna from a Concorde, and the ones that do, still get it wrong more often than not. :) -
Thai Airways crash Bangkok Airport 8th Sept
Samsonite replied to Brown1950's topic in Airline Discussion
This is standard practice through out the airline industry. It would be unusual if the airline involved didn't cover up their logos, or even slap a coat of paint over most of the aircraft, if the wreckage cannot be immediately removed from public view. -
Best place to get American food in Bangkok
Samsonite replied to short's topic in Restaurants and food
Almost sounds like an insult, similar to a Thai calling a foreigner a Farang even when they know his name. Why is it that within the U.K. the Irish don't like the English, the Scots don't like the English, and the Welsh down right hate the English? It has to be more than the food? -

World’s Best Airlines 2013 infographics
Samsonite replied to susanhousten's topic in Airline Discussion
Nice graphics, but several of those airlines do not belong in the top 10. -
They don't compete. Two different sized aircraft for two different markets. The closest competitor to the A380 is the Boeing 747-8i (Intercontinental). ULA (ultra large aircraft) has become a niche market and neither the A380 or 747-8 have sold as well as their manufacturers would have hoped.
-
Yes it was, and that is where many airlines moved their first class compartment after the introduction of the larger upper deck with the 747-300 and 747-400.

Walking Street at eight in the morning.....
Samsonite replied to Billions's topic in Pictorial Travel Reports
I did a little research on this a few years ago when the the subject came up and one source claimed the U.S. Marines were the first on the beach in Pattaya and that is how it should be. True or not, I really don't know.
