aircon all the way to Pattaya please
EnglishPaul replied to bart's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi bart! Yes the heat can take a bit of adjusting to on a first trip, doesn`t take long though. You`ve had some good replies re, Transport, have a look in the Meeting-Cost Sharing section here. lostinspace service(which I have used and is good) and Mr.T get good reviews. I now just get straight down to Pattaya, without staying at Bangkok(but have stayed there before, just prefer Pattaya) but it would be a shame not to give it a visit, maybe on your return for a couple of days. Up to You . Have a Great Trip!! -
Hi If your English mobile is network locked, yes you have to get it unlocked before the Thai Sim will work in it. I usually take a spare unlocked phone with me. All the Best

Thank-You I was unaware of these prefix numbers. I don`t often call home when in Pattaya but handy to know. Cheers!

Hi magy not long for you now,bet you can`t wait!, You may have already sorted your hotel but I would agree that on a relatively short visit location is important. As pattysteve mentioned soi7 and 8 are good locations, plenty of bars on your doorstep. soi 13 also good, mainly a soi of hotels, relatively quiet at night, you can stroll down to Walking Street in about 10/15 minutes, can also catch a baht-bus down to soi7,8 and soi6(that`s worth a visit, plenty of eye candy there,a soi mainly of s/t bars),takes about 5/10 minutes to get there, cost 10baht(about 15UK pence). Wherever you stay try to get a sense of direction before you get too Well Have a Good Trip! I`m sure you will

Hi All I stayed at the Whitehouse Condotel for 4 nights at end of February this year. I wrote down a few notes intending to do a review but never got round to it. Here goes: I booked standard room by walk-in(was already at Lek) just fancied a change.1250bht including breakfast, served till 11.30, sorry fellas never was up in time for it!! New well lit room. Good efficient air-con. In-room safe No instructions at all, malfunctioned on me but sorted very quickly. N.B only 3 digit code( not more normal 6 digit code) How secure do you think that is? Up to You. Large very comfortable bed, firm but not hard mattress, linen pillows etc. all good quality. Mini bar in fridge(not much room for drinks brought in from outside) Large walk-in shower, water pressure fair But water temperature would change from hot to cold after about 6/7 minutes(wait a little while and OK again) Sign saying no smoking(cigarettes ) in room, use balcony.view from balcony poor too near other buildings. No swimming pool. TV reception rather poor but had at least 3 good Sports Channels and BBC World for news. Room cleaned very well. No joiner fee,Ok to the girls, take I.D. On checking out there was a charge for mini-bar item(had not used it at all) but they accepted it as their error.. IMO I didn`t think service overall was as friendly as both Lek and Dynasty Inn. Room itself better than the other 2. Just my experience. Hope this helps!

Is Pattaya a really big place to walk around?
EnglishPaul replied to Carragher's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi to soi 12/13 location. i have stayed at Lek on soi12 as well as Dynasty Inn and Whitehouse Condotel on soi13. last trip tried to book Sandy Spring but they didn`t have a room. 10 or 15 minute walk to Walking Street, yet fairly quiet at night, eay access to the bahtbus`.. don`t think you can go far wrong with your choice Have a Good Time!! -
How much to take on a month's stay
EnglishPaul replied to Hardeep J's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Hi I budget just a little over £100 a day, approx. 7000 baht a day. last trip I was quite a bit under this but as Tengotodo posts if it is your first trip better to over-budget. i always have a couple of back-up credit cards and some travellers cheques( have taken both US$ and UK£ T.C. both easy to change. I think best to have access to some extra funds somehow as it is better to have too much than not enough. Enjoy your trip -
Tycoon Place Serviced Apartment

plahgat Thanks for that report and the pictures.Looks excellent for the money! I will certainly consider it next time I`m out there Cheers! -
Hi csoday I hope soon some others will answer your questions but in the meantime, a while back I stayed at the Siam Bayview(not Bayshore) but same company. I found them almost hostile towards t/g guest and wanted 800 bht joiner fee. Yes Bayshore is in very good location for Walking Street in particular. others may post with different opinion/experience,if you are not in urgent rush to book, maybe wait for some more replies. Sorry can`t help any more than that. Just an idea, you could maybe look thru. the hotel reviews via this site if you haven`t already done so. All the Best

Hi All, 5 out of 6 of my trips to Thailand have been solo and that is the way I like it. If anything I find it easier to meet people to talk and drink with when and if you want. On one of my trips I was drinking at abar and got chatting to a guy who had done 30 odd trips to Thailand, friendly guy with some useful info. I also prefer to be alone when choosing a t/g companion. Only just back from Pattaya so can`t go back soon enough for any of the dates posted Hope you all have good trips!

Lek Hotel - any recent reviews?
EnglishPaul replied to DJJJOEs's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi All CyberSpud glad the info was useful.no I have never stayed at the AA Residence, maybe when you come back from your trip you can tell us how it compares with whatever ones/s you stay at. I`m a bit similar to you, tend to stick to same areas hotel ,bars etc. but this trip I changed that a bit and was glad I did.In future trips nice to have some back-up hotels in case 1st choice not available.Sorry slightly off-topic but also tried bars that I hadn`t been to before as well as going to ones I was already familiar with. Agree on point about lack of maintenance, I think a shame that sometimes a hotel starts off very good when new then declines but I suppose considering what to me at least seem like very low room rates it`s going to happen. All this is making me wish I was going back out there soon! I`ll just have to work a bit harder to make the next trip another good one. -
Lek Hotel - any recent reviews?
EnglishPaul replied to DJJJOEs's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi CyberSpud, I think quite a difficult choice but in my case i stayed 9 nights Lek then 4 nights each in Dynasty Inn and Whitehouse Condotel, then went back to the Lek which was my favourite. Please note only my opinion, but service best at Lek,very closely followed by Dynasty(where I have stayed 4 times before),Whitehouse 3rd. In room safe at Whitehouse had no instructions was only 3 number code to open(instaad of 6 at Lek) No instructions for telephone.,would not bring my bags down from room, tried to charge an incorrect mini-bar bill(that was sorted OK),water in shower started off hot, then ran cold, then hot again.Sounds like I`m tearing into the Whitehouse but it did have in my opinion the most comfortable bed, quietest and most efficient air-con,against the few niggling problems that in fairness to them someone else staying there might not encounter. It is also the newest of the 3 hotels. If you are a smoker(cigarettes!) there is a sign asking you to only smoke on the balcony, not in the room, don`t suppose they are able to enforce this. Lek has swimming pool,as you probably know,Dynasty also but very small,no pool at Whitehouse. Lek(new wing) and Whitehouse have in-room safe,Dynasty lockboxes at reception, available 24 hours Despite my criticisms of Whitehouse I would stay at any of the 3 hotels again(like you I like the location),but Lek or Dynasty would be my preference. I`m sure other people will have different opinions Hope this helps, any specific questions, don`t hesitate to post,I`ll try to answer. Have a Good Trip!! -
Lek Hotel - any recent reviews?
EnglishPaul replied to DJJJOEs's topic in Hotel and Accommodation Questions
Hi I stayed at the Lek hotel soi12 for 9 nights from February 10th and another 5 nights early March this year. I booked via internet requested standard room new wing, quoted 1200bht per night. Check-in(about 19.00 time) smooth and polite. No deposit asked for.Overall very pleased with my stay there, i also stayed at Dynasty Inn and Whitehouse Condotel. Room at Lek reasonable size, large bed comfortable to me.water pressure and temperature good, had shower and bath. In-room safe(please bear in mind room at old wing about 750/850 baht may have less facilities, sorry if I state the obvious) Room always cleaned well. Mini bar prices incredibly low, e.g.small Coke 10bht,water 10bht, heineken beer 35 or 40 bht. Guest friendly,no fee I would stay again, rate the service highly, but just 2 minor points ,1st room i stayed at the TV reception was poor,2nd room good. Air-con leaked once in 1st room was fixed next day. same happened 2nd room, requiring fixing more than once. This did not really bother me and I don`t intend it as a criticism, just relaying my experience(as I said I would stay again)I like the location and the friendly service.Check-out both times was smooth, minibar bill accurate. Hope this helps, enjoy your trip! -
Hi i used this service arriving Bangkok 10th february and returned to BKK 4th March. On arrival at BKk jan was waiting with clear sign near front, vey easy to spot. jan is an excellent driver friendly and knowledgeable, nice comfortable vehicle, cold drinks available enroute. i have been to thailand a few times now and this is the best service i have used, would particularly recommend to 1st time visitors and i will use again( as long as doesn`t get over booked with all the recommendations!! .) Thank- You Paul and Jan
