  1. yeah im looking to go on march 30 or 31 but i wanna go direct! i normally go with thai but last month i went with eva, i guess ill wait until the end of january and hopefully! thai will come down by then!
  2. ive just been looking at gulf airs site (the uk one!) and they have the above fare only trouble is it must be booked by tomorrow! well worth a look! if you do go with them also join their frequent flyers club as you get an extra 10 kilos of baggage! anyone going over in the next few months it may be worth looking! good luck!
  3. i think someone owes niall a beer!
  4. i just got back from thailand and i went with eva-air on elite class, personally i wouldnt pay the extra £200, the seat has slightly more leg-room and you get a toothbrush and some body cream! good i.f.e. though (although economy has the same size screens) apparently the old evergreen deluxe was better than the new elite service, but as i say id rather spend the extra 14,500 baht in thailand! im off again at the end of march so ill be checking prices again shortly!
  5. well im going later on today! and im hoping to see the welsh games! in the past ive seen most games over there ie 6 nations , lions etc. a lot of the bars show the games and most will advertise the games (usually on a blackboard or similar outside the bar) and obviously the bars run by brits (and there are loads of them!) will show the games!
  6. i came back from bangkok to heathrow on thai business class in january and april this year, i was dissapointed really, i used my miles to up-grade but if id have paid actual cash id have been gutted! obviously better than economy , but no way id pay to fly thai business! im going next week on elite class with eva so ill try and post what they are like !
  7. phew! glad its not next weekend!
  8. ok cheers mate! had a bit of a rant cos im having a bad day! first of all i thought i wasnt gonna be able to go over next week as im under the doctor! seems ok now though! then! i had the wrong return date on my ticket! thats also ok now! then! today i had to go into work to see a boss about my recent sick ness and on the way home i jumped over a bloody tiny wall and fell awkwardly on my anke! its aching like hell now! so im sure the gods are conspiring against my trip next thusday! (my first time without the missus as well!) good luck!
  9. well i speak a bit of thai, i obviously dont read it! the house is all payed fpr registered etc etc, and if i cant trust my wife of 11 years or if anyone couldnt trust their wife whats the point of buying anything with them in the first place.ive been going to thailand for over 23 years nothing surprises me over there anymore, farangs can and do buy houses (with a registered company) buy a condo, buy cars takre driving tests etc. there seems to be a lot of scepticism to what ive said, i personally dont care, im just saying what ive done. (i also know lots of other brits who have bought property over there) . the house is in my wifes name-so what? it only cost me what most people pay for a car anyway! im only 45 so i aint gonna retire to that house, ill buy another before then. to me the plus of getting a house in my wifes name is she can take care of any problems.to the guy who said do i trust my wife all i can say is get a life!. seems people like going to thailand but dont like thai people? anyway rant over and i wont bother offering my "advice" any more! to the original poster as i say ask the people in thailand who have actually done what you want maybe they may have more "relevant" knowledge than some of these posters!
  10. hey emil i always cheack my tickets!......................except for this time of course! doh! as you say £35.00=2,500 baht which could have been better spent on cultural entertainment!
  11. ok! glad its not just me then!
  12. yeah alespalsy the bank which changed the cheques gave us " a piece of paper!" which i presume is the tor 3? my wife is thai so that obviously helped! the "piece of paper" from the bank is needed apparently by the land registry when you go to register the property? we bought a house in soi khaota in a complex which is still being built so the girls from the sales office went with us to the land registry to help smooth things along. i presume the same conditions apply when buying a condo? according to my wife the bank asked where the money came from and she told them from my savings salary etc and they were satisfied? apparently they were checking this money wasnt "dirty" ie drug money gang money! etc! ive a friend living in a studio condo (right on the baht bus route off central pattaya road) until his house gets built, and the condos there sell for about 500,000 baht, like i say they are studios but they are big! and quite well located! so i think for one and a half million you will be ok! (my 2 bed-roomed house didnt cost that much!) so just get about and hunt the properties out and meet up with ex-pats living there! im sure if you buy them a beer im sure they would be willing to help! im there myself in 12 days time! cant wait! good luck mate!
  13. yeah i know you always do! but! i just got my e-ticket confirmation yesterday, im flying out to bangkok on october 20th and returning on november 13th, but quicky looking through the details i was booked to return on november 3rd! i phoned travelmood up and told them they had made a mistake! but they said id originally booked november 3rd! it cost me £35.00 to change the ticket (luckily they had room on the 13th!) then on checking my reciepts i HAD! in fact been booked on the 3rd from the start! so ALWAYS CHECK! your tickets! first time its happened to me and i felt like a right plonker telling the agents it was my mistake! so all in all i cant wait for the 20th cos until a few days ago i wasnt even sure about going due to ill health! so bring on the mekhong and coke!
  14. just my two pence worth! i bought a house in pattaya two years ago and i used travellers cheques! but thinking about it we had to prove the money was transferred! anyways we went to a few real estate agenta but i wasnt impressed by any of them!im a brit and 2 of the places i went to hadbrits working in them who were real "arthur daleys!" ie. i didnt trust nor believe them! try looking at oyher ads in thailand they have a fre property mags there or even look out for any ads in complexes you like or just meet up with ex-pats living there they will know of any condos for sale! there are some real bargains to be had in pattaya but as everywhere its knowing where they are! good luck!
  15. good news! i went for the test today they cant find anything wrong! (though i still dont feel right!) doc said he cant see why i cant go! so ! providing i feel ok im of in 2 weeks time! (still got to wait for some more tests though!)
  16. well i flew with them about 15 years ago from bangkok to sydney, and they were great then!
  17. cheap as chips! they will have practically every shape and size possible! as a rule of thumb in a market type place id offer about half of what they ask for and pay up to about two thirds of the original price! jeans (copies_) will only cost about 250-350 baht (less if you buy loads and can haggle well!) tee shirts are a couple of quis! shoes much less than blighty! and if you wanna buy genunine jeans they are about half-price or maybe less than in the uk! just go to a few shops/ stalls/ markets first and ask for prices in a few different places so you get a rough idea of the price!
  18. ok cheers guys, like i said i dont wanna cancel the ticket yet, "just in case!" but ive got to wait for some more tests (camera down the mouth!-sounds like fun!) and ive got tp wait for the phone-call! hopefully that wont be much longer! im hoping they can do it a.s.a.p.! and so a miracle cure! so i can go! but im not holding my breath! thanks again guys!
  19. hi, well im "supposed!" to be going to thailand on october 2oth, but! im not sure if i can go or not now, to cut a long story short ive been having chest/breathing problems for a few months now, and its touch and go if i have to cancel my flight with eva-air! obviously id only cancel the ticket on the doctors say-so.! so the thing is how much will i lose? or could i use the money ive paid towards the next tickets i buy? ive never cancelled tickets b4 so ive no idea! and i only wanna phone the travel agent as a last resort! so anyone got any ideas? i have annual travel insurance so i may be covered there anyway? cheers guys!
  20. thanks for the report and pics, i go on in october from heathrow in elite class only 5 weeks now!
  21. wow! just saw you had 2 or 3 million to spend! you could buy 3 or 4 or 5 condos for that!
  22. hello , well i dont have a condo in pattaya but i do have a house, however i dont rent it out for a few reasons, one its off sukhumvit road (which is away from the beach and bars), also for the rent id get for it about 9 or 10 thousand baht a month, its not worth the hassle for me. sure if i was to live in pattaya id consider buying a conco for renting out, but youd have to "keep an eye on it" all the time youd have to find people to rent it out etc etc! so all in all it would be too much hassle for me! but i have friends in pattaya who have bought condos for rental purposes, theyve told me its all about location! whaich makes sense to me! also they say to try and buy a "corner" condo? (i guess itd have more light cooler and a bigger balcony?) anyway good luck to you mate!
  23. hi rich! what time do you arrive please? thing is i arrive the day b4 but , i "may!! stay overnight in bangkok! im not sure yet! ill be going to my house in pattaya (near tesco lotus) so let me know what time your flight gets into bangkok and ill try and let you know asap!
  24. well i dont know anything about the above, but twice ive got a taxi from pattaya to bangkok for 500 baht (plus tolls). just asked the taxi drivers ( normally parked in second road) for a ride to bangkok they ask how much and i said 500 i think the second time may have been 600,obviously o good if you want a "booked" taxi as you have to go looking for them! but to get to bangers a good price! thinking about it the last time i did it i got the taxi from second street, (i was on my hired motor-bike) he followed me to threppasit road to drop off the bike! thgen i had a lift to my house (soi khaotalo) get my bags lock the house up and away to bangkok via 7-11! i presume these are the same taxis you can book for 500 baht? these are bangkok taxis wanting a fare back to bangkok!
  25. im no expert but...if they say the flights are booked and they arent why not give abta or atol a ring.. youve nothing to lose.. it might all be some misunderstanding.. but for your piece of mind it may be worth a phone call! good luck!
