  1. I fly out @21.30 on Jan 13th, there was a strike starting @06.00 on the 14th! So I should be O.K.!
  2. Next month Im going on Eva to Thailand. Apparently, they are using refurbished 747s again ( No more 777 then?). Has anybody used them since they are flying the 747s from Heathrow? Im going over in Elite/Evergreen and bck in economy. I dont think much of the Elite class on the 777s (it was much better in the ''old!"' 747!), so I guess the ''refurbished Elite isnt much better? Any recent reports pllease? Cheers in advance guys!
  3. Personally my advice would be, is if you are worried about losing money, then simply dont spend , more than what you would be prepared to lose! Or rather if you have any doubts at all about losing a fortune, then simply dont spend a fortune! A couple of years ago, I (I have a Thai wife) bought a new 2 bedroomed house in Soi Khaotalo. It cost less than a second hand B.M.W. would cost in the U.K. I probably only use the house about 8 weeks maximum in each year. I also dont even bother renting it out, as I would probalby only get about 10,000 baht per month, so to me its not worth the hassle.
  4. Great air-line with a great price! I cant fault them! I also ( for the first time ever!) booked direct form an air-lines website, and found a greqt price! I prefer to over Thai as well, because Eva has good I.F.E. whereas Thai has virtually none! AH! 5 weeks tonight and wheels up!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I ended up booking to go in January instead! Booked on Evas website, got a U ticket for 489, and upgrade to elite on outward flight!. So......countdown time begins! lol!
  6. Im going to Patts in Feb, so spent an hour or two yesterday looking for prices. Seems to be the best deal I can get is Eva for 460 pounds (cant get the pound sign to work on my keyboard sorry!). Only trouble is , I have 32,000 ish miles with them.On that fare I cant get an upgrade ( as I have 32,000 miles I could have got an up-grade from economy to elite for 20,000). So I phoned around, got a fare on eva for 485 (on a ticket I could have used to up-grade with!) , only trouble was , as i was about to pay, the guy said oh sorry its an H class ticket , so no mileage accrual and no upgrade fa
  7. Just out of interest, what sort of price are you paying to go on this air-line?
  8. Jack I just phoned Evas L ondon office (answered quite promptly and polite too!) , the girl I spoke with said they will be using 747s from December 4th. So I guess I will wait for a bit before I book, and see if I can get a good deal with elite (as elite is far better on their jumbos than 777s!), or else get a ticket with 100% mileage accrual in economy. Then as i have 34,882 miles already, I will be able to up-grade from economy to elite both ways! Heres hoping!. I used to fly Thai all the time, but I find Eva are better now? Anybody else feel the same?.!
  9. Thanks for the replies guys, I think the ticket is gonna cost me though. as the sis-in-law will probably stay for about 4-6 months! (mind you at least I do get to Patts alone! for a few weeks in Feb!). I told the missus, to tell her sister to phone some travel agents in Bangers, she phoned Thai airways instead! They wanted 40,000 ish. i think she will have to fly Eva or Thai or B.A./Qantas, as they are all direct, and she has never flown before and speaks no English!
  10. As a matter of interest!.................does the 747s have a seat back T.V. in economy? I think I will wait to book with Eva, to try and get a ticket which allows mileage accrual, I have about 30K ish with them at the mo!
  11. Hmmmmmmmmn! at least elite class is a lot better on the 747s Gus! May book on elite class then..............if I can get a cheap enough fare! ..................BUT! saying that, Im sure Eva have a promotion (on their web-site)for Laurel class for about 1,600 euros from Amsterdam? Damn! I kep giving myself a bloody nightmare choosing flights!
  12. I am going to Thailand in February. just been looking on Evas website, and it says the plane they use (lhr-bkk and return) is a 747? Yet the last 2 times I went with them it was a 777! I gues they havent changed their web-site? or have they started flying 747s fro heathrow again? (id be amazed if they have!). Im just debating wether to book now (or at least by tomorrow -when offer runs out!), West East have quoted me £454, trouble is that will be an H class ticket-which wont give me any mileage!. so Im not sure wether to book now, or wait a bit and at least get the mileage credited to my acc
  13. As title really! The sister-in-law will (or wants to!) come here in November. Anybody have any idea what a return will cost then (booking from Bangkok)? , or anybody know any good travel agents in Bangkok? Cheers in advance guys!
  14. I agree with Sinbinjack! Second hand cars are expensive in Thailand. Try looking at new cars and pick-ups, you will be pleasantly surprised at the prices!
  15. Excellent advice offerd by Horizons! I have a house in Pattaya (my wife is Thai), if anything happens to us, ive no qualms about losing it (not that I think anything will! but Im prepared!),. If buying anything in Thailand, treat the real estate agents like you would in your home country.................then trust them about 20 times less! (I know there are good agents there.......Its just my view from my experiences!) As already stated, try rentin somewhere first, to get the feel of condo living, and as in every place, the price depends on the location! Obviously the nearer the beach...th
  16. For me, I could live on a lot less that some of the figures being bandied about. Obviously it depends on what youre paying for your accomodation, and how much you drink! Personally, I cant drink every night, as it would get to be boring after a time! Transport is cheap as chips, food is also cheap, (especially if you eat as thais do). I admit I dont know what it would cost for internet or cable tv. Obviously, everybody is different, and spends money differently etc. BUT! isnt $4,000 like about £2,000? if so, I live on a lot less than that nett per month in the U.K! with that I have a hous
  17. I agree with the above! As stated, in Thailand you would (I presume anyway!), have a more "outdoors life!", spending less time in your home. Also, some condos, have communal pools, and little restaurants shops etc etc. I have a 2 bedroomed house in Pattaya (I only stay in for 1 month of the year though!) , and unless Im staying with the family, just use it for sleeping and getting a showere etc! Having said all the above though! If I were living alone ,Id have no qualms about buying a condo. "Personally! I would have a balcony (and not all condos have one!) and obviously if it had 2 be
  18. I f I remember correctly I think its 40,000 miles. However I think you can only up-grade on "certain class types" of economy ticket.I have twice used the up-grade, but this was before thet re-furbed the cabins. You will get a far bigger seat, better service and food, plus the use of the airport lounge. hth!
  19. I saw those bikes in april when I was there. I did ask how much they were, and they were expensive! I cant remember exactly how much, but at the time we were renting a toyota vios car, for 800 baht a day, and the rental cost for the atv was much higher than that! As I say, sorry I cant rememer exactly how much they were, but it was a lot more than 800 a day!
  20. My 2 faves for english breakfasts are, Jimmy Macs in soi 6, and Palmers bar in soi ? (its opposite cheers bar and next to the penthouse hotel!)
  21. I have twice up-graded from economy to business with Thai.im prettty sure that you can only do the deal 30 days before the flight leaves. ie if you fly out December 31, you can only up-grade on December 1st up to the 31st December. Also! you can only upgrade on certain "classes" of economy? I cant remember but it will be on their website! Hope this helps!
  22. I t starts to get REAL!!!! hot, towards the end of march! It also tends to get "not so busy" then too, (off-peakish time!).
  23. Amen to that! I cant wait to do the same! Retire and go out to Pattaya , about November time! and come back just before Songkran time! I was being sarcastic about "free" education health etc!!!!!! every time I pick up my pay-slip and see stoppages for tax and N.I. etc! I feel like crying! Then theres car tax, council tax, etc etc etc etc etc!!!!!!!!! lol!
