  1. Damn it! The fares have gone up by a hundred quid or so now! I "wanted" to book last week (could have got Eva for 540s) but had to wait for final confirmation from my works about what time I could have off.........got that confirmed earlier this week........yup the fares have gone up! Ah well I will keep on looking and see what I can find in the next few weeks or so!
  2. I think I will be flying with Eva myself (end of January). I have used Thai the last few times............but Eva are just as good. As Im going for over a month, the fares On Thai are at least £100 - £150 more expensive! Only "trouble" ! is Ive never seen any spare seats flying with Eva..........saying that? Only once! Have I had any extra seats with Thai airways! Just looked on Evas web site.for the dates I want, its about £20 -£30 dearer using Eva web-site but will probably book on the website anyway. ps anybody know if its still the 90 day "rule" when booking your actua
  3. Hmmmm, so by my reckoning, this hotel is where the "Cowboy" bar used to be?
  4. I "usually" use Thai Airways, (from L.H.R.) It arrives about 6 in the morning. Every time Ive been, there is always a longgggg queue! In fairness though, last time (Jan this year) they had lots of staff "directing" the queues! Maybe I might look into using fast track next time.
  5. Top pics there mate! The London tourist board should hire you as a photographer! Its "inspired"! me to take a trip to London for a "walkabout"....(always an excuse to pop into Chinatown for some food too!
  6. I was there in January. As has been said , its a very long walk! I much prefer terminal 2.................so much so ........I may even consider using another airline next time I fly ! (I "normally" fly Thai sometimes Eva). Im considering flying with maybe Ethihad or Emirates next year.......................would be good if they still use terminal 2?!
  7. Getting back to terminal 2......It "seems" as if you have to walk for bloody miles to get to the gates, also the "walk" from the Heathrow Express (train service to Heathrow)took me bloody ages! It involved stairs, lifts, escalators, walking outside etc etc........Personally for me too, the shops/pubs/restaurants etc in the actual terminal didn't seem as god as in terminal 3, plus there didn't seem to be half as much room/space in terminal 2.
  8. Same as Gus says! This year I flew out of Heathrow mid-day, flew out of Bangkok early morning flight. Both flights full, hardly any spare seats..... its been the same every time (excepting last year! when for the first time ever I had 3 seats to myself on BOTH! flights!). I normally fly the same times, (mid-day from Heathrow and early morning/mid-night ish!) from Bangkok...........The flights always seem full..........so with a reduction in seats (as they are binning the one flight) it could be interesting! As an aside. Thai now use Terminal 2 (was 3) in Heathrow............I found
  9. Nice pics.....looks like a nice place to spend a few days.
  10. Thanks for that. I will give it a go in Jnauary.
  11. Look like a lovely beach! Please can you tell me if this is "driveable!" on a scooter? I mean how far is it from Pattaya (I will be staying in Soi Khaotalo near Tesco on Sukhumvitt road). I love beaches......but Pattaya isn't what I would call a nice beach! I normally spend most days at a swimming pool............but this looks like a lovely change every few days. thanks for any replies!
  12. I tend to read lots in Thailand ( seems to be the only chance I get!). I also "much prefer real books"..........but I finally got a kindle a few years ago..........I didn't want to...but in a way Im glad I did....its much easier than taking a dozen books with me for a few weeks holidays! I think I still "prefer" real books........but a kindle is wayyyyy more practicable. Getting back to your original question................I like books on the Vietnam war.....If you like books from this era....I strongly recommend "Chickenhawk" by Robert Mason (a chopper pilot in the war) Another I like i
  13. Well I just booked my ticket...............going in January for 6 weeks. Its the most Ive ever paid though! I paid £737!!!!!! That was with Thai. I could have got Eva for £582 but I much prefer the flight times with Thai Airways....................I weighed it all up............ I would have saved about £140 -£150 flying with Eva (of course Id have saved lots more by going non-direct!) in the end I decided it was better to go with Thai.........................When I went last time (jan and feb this year) I was lucky enough (first time EVER!) to have 3 seats to myself ...........in BO
  14. I don't know of any personally. but Im 100% certain that the girls will know of some! Saying that, last time I went to a "motel" type (park your car outside the room type of place!) That was clean and great value for money! I "think" it was about 3 or 400 baht short time. I used it twice (same girl both times) The second time I stayed there, I didn't leave until late morning, I "think" it was about 800 baht. for the long stay. Sorrry I don't know the name of it..it was quite near to soi Buakhow though.
  15. I phoned West- East last week. I was quoted £550ish for Eva. Thai was over £800. When I asked why Thai was lots more (I want to go for 6 weeks.....Thai would have been £610 for 4 weeks), I was told it was because their latest promotion runs out before my flight date? (I want to fly Jan 12) . The lady told me Thai will probably have another promotion in October? Thinking about it, the last few years, Ive gone in January, and booked the ticket in October. I will give it another fortnight, to see if Thai can get to about £600..............I prefer the Thai flight times (I like to leave heat
  16. Cheers for that Gus. I didn't mind the Servisair lounge in terminal 3! Only about £18 too....................I would rather not pay £40 for just drinks though! I haven't booked my flight yet, I will probably book it next month. Im going for 6 weeks in January. I prefer the flight times of Thai than Eva ......but I may well end up flying with Eva if the prices are good! If so I will ask about the lounge access for £40 too! Thanks. ps Ive been "looking" at fares for January.......Oman and Gulf are coming up for £500 ish.....................Saying that? I much prefer a direct flight
  17. Interesting! I was wondering what differences moving to terminal 2 would have made with using Thai...............Answered a lot of things I was wondering about! I like to arrive at the airport early......so I usually have to wait until the "Thai desk" opens before checking in (saying that? The last 2 times I flew Thai, the desk was opened early ..I mean about 4 hours before flight time..sometimes they open 3 hours before departure time!). "Maybe" then by using this new system, it should mean I can check in "earlier" than I used to? (I mean sometimes there would be a queue........just wait
  18. Thanks for that! I will add them to my favourites!
  19. Who did you book the tickets with please? Ive never ever flown on B.A. (always use Thai or Eva) but.......I like the timings of the B.A flights.
  20. Im looking to go for 6 weeks, leaving in January..............I think Id best start ringing around for fares myself in a month or two!
  21. Never once had a bad meal there. Cracking value too.
  22. Thanks for the pics...My fave is the beach umbrellas at night........stunning pic!
  23. Apparently Thai are moving to Terminal 2 later than planned now! Due to baggage handling/other issues apparently?
  24. Some great pics..................as always! Thanks for sharing. I went to Saigon about 10 years ago.........never made it up to the north though......................maybe one day!
  25. RESULT!!!!! Also had 3 seats from Bangkok to Heathrow.......also managed 6 hours sleep on the return flight....which is the longest sleep Ive had on any carrier! (I left Bangkok 00.15 Friday morning..........but it left abut 40 minutes late!)
