  1. Well this forum sure is getting more interesting and humourous.!!!! Shame its nowt to do with Pattaya though! Have to go back to watching my cartoons now! lol! Please, start some more informative, entertaining, witty, humourous and scintilating posts! Cheers!!! ps. If you are so interested in what people call themselves on forums? Youd be mortified as to what bar girls (sorry bar WOMEN) call "some" of their punters!! Keep up the good work fellas!
  2. ??????????????????????????! lol!
  3. Have to agree with you there about Evas service getting poorer and poorer all the time. Now if there was a mix? say Thais service and Evas in fflight entertainment! I guess the only other way to do it is to fly with Thai using their night flights? (saying that.............I rarely (if ever!) can sleep on a plane! So the in flight entertainment with Eva, just about swings it for me!
  4. Personally I give myself plenty of time! I book a lounge in Heathrow anyway! As has been mentioned, trains get late/cancelled, roads get busy shut etc etc! I mean! I wait for a bloody year! to go to Patts! so a few hours in the airport? Nothing! Just have a few drinks /read paper book /internet etc etc! Happy holidays!
  5. I presume youve tried ringing West East travel have you mate? I always phone them ,as they usually have fares and prices other than what is on their web-site? I mean I booked for feb 2, about 7 weeks ago, looking on their site it showed £640 ish for Eva, over the phone they quoted well over a ton less!. Obvioisly though Eva fly from Heathrow! Give them a ring........ nothing to lose!
  6. I booked yesterday to fly from Heathrow to Bangkok for early Feb! I have been checking prices recently, they seem to be prety high! So I thought Id wait a little longer.....................then I heard about the extra 30 quid airport tax coming in November! So yesterday , I was scouring the internet again! Fares were still high, so I thought Id ring good old West-East up. Long story short, Im booked for early February on Eva! I paid £566, it would have been 30 odd quid cheaper. if Id come back within a month, but I am staying the extra few days! So moral of my story? (apart from me getting excited!!!) Dont alway r rely on the internet prices!!!! As "sometimes!" it pays to phone up!!!!! I mean the price I was quoted over the phone wasnt on their web-site!!!!!!!!!! (actually now I think about it, every time Ive booked with West-East, the fares have always been cheaper over the phone!?).
  7. I always thought that the British married pension, was dependant upon the years N.I. both you and your wife had paid? Saying that, the the lazy sods who have never done a days work , will get a bigger married state pension , than for those of us who have worked all our lives? (provided our wives havent worked that is!) I hope Im wrong! Cos though Ive worked all my wife, my wife hasnt!
  8. Just did a quick google! The company is called Heathrow connect! It looks like it costs £7.90 single. It doesnt run 24 hours though! It takes 26 minutes, so could be worth saving a tenner!
  9. Im lucky?! As I work for the railways I get free travel (have to pay 25% of the Heathrow Express fare though!). There is another service from Paddington to heathrow though? (cant remember the bloody name though!) I "presume" it will be cheaper than Heathrow Express though, as it stops at a few places ( Southall , for one). It does take a little bit longer about 25 minutes, but Id be very surprised if it isnt cheaper!
  10. Personally I prefer Eva to Thai anyway. As regards to price, as you know, they will probably comedown ......question is when! If were you Id book with Eva, unless you prefer Thais mid-day flight from Heathrow, and the return from Bangkok early morning? If Im honest ,I prefer to leave Bangkok early morning, as it gets you back in Heathrow early morning! (as oppose to Eva landing in Heathrow about 7 in the evening). But for me anyway, I prefer Eva (probably cos of Thais lack of I.F.E.!) so I go with them! Obviously though for some the flight times with Eva can be a pain in the arse!
  11. OK ! get you! Have you tried West-East Travel? Im pretty sure they have some good deals going on at the moment!
  12. Good price that! I also am looking at going on march 12, can get Eva for £422, so Ill probably book that on Monday! Trouble is ,Im on the sick now so cant really check for sure that Ill get the time off! Should! be OK though! So I think I will book it on Monday anyway! Only trouble is Ill be going with the missus.so she likes to stay in Bangkok for the first few days.......! I think Ill have to come up with a cunning plan to go to Patts Saturday morning so I can watch the Welsh game in Pattaya!
  13. I am in the same boat as you! I normally fly with Eva,but their prices are still high for January! (though last time I phoned West-east, they said the "special fares" for Eva should be available in July?). Im looking at using Qatar (as the layover times are good in Doha!). BUT! I havent flown with a middle eastern airline for years now! (last one I used was Gulf!). As you say though!!!!!!! could well be stuck next to somebody..........."interesting!" Lol !
  14. I also am looking at Eva for mid jan! I was almost tempted! by Thai at £550 a week or two ago!!!!! But ! I wouldnt do it as Id be a hypocrite! As Im always slagging off Thais lack of I.F.E. One good thing about Thai is they fly twice a day! Though reading other posts they are feeling the pinch!? and cancelling one of their daily lhr-bkk routes sometimes? I may! be tempted by Qatar though, as the flight times suit me! anfd the stop-over isnt too long! But!!!! I willl wait until Eva drop to £550 or less!
  15. Im sure I paid either £310 or £320 in the 80s with Biman Bangladesh Airlines!!!!! (wouldnt reccomend them though!).
  16. plus there is a 7/11 right outside there too! Plenty of bars banks shops etc as has already been mentioned. It take s me about 10 or 15 minutes to get to say Soi Diana from there, (by bike!) and a motorbike taxi usually costs me 60 or 70 baht into town!
  17. I forgot to say! You can still book a seat (not upstairs though! in economy) up to 100 days before you fly with Eva. The 24 hour online check-in just gives you the chance to speed your airport check-in up! also you can change the seat youd already booked. to an upstairs seat! ( I did it on both legs this Jan/Feb!).
  18. They are seats 80 up to 89 N3RGT. Im also a short-arse! (plenty of padding though!) but apparently the upstairs seats have 2 inches more leg-room? As I say it seems a little quieter up there (as not so many people I guess!) also they leave out drinks and snacks at the back (where you can also have a ""little"""" stretch!). In my book anything to help the flights more bearable are a bonus!!!! Forgot to say the seats are configured in 2 rows of 3 seats!
  19. As an aside , whenever ny home in the UK is empty (even for 30 bleeding minutes!) EVERY! door window etc etc is locked! Alao when I had the house built I paid extra for my bars on the window. Purely for safety! just as I wear a crash helmet and a condom! purely for safety! lol!
  20. Ive had a house in soi Khaotalo (eagmongkon 4) for about 5 years now. Fair enough I only spend a month or two every year there,but.......... Ive seen no more trouble there than in most other places in Patts? (bearing in mind I feel far safer in Patts than I do in Wales! For our colonial friends! Wales is a small country next to England!! lol!
  21. Yeah! I realise that Tom, what I meant was you can now check-in online and change seats 24 hours prior to the flight departure time! OK it isnt much, but I wasnt allowed to book one of the upstairs economy seats 100 days to departure. Im only a green card holder with Evas mileage programme, and when I asked Evas London office if I could book a seat upstairs (3 months before I left!) they said I could only do it 24 hours before if I checked in on-line 24 hours beforehand? I asked if it would have made a difference if I was a silver card holder , they siad no? Anyways! the seats upstairs have an inch or two more room upstairs and its quieter up there! However! having said all that!!! Ill probably go with Qatar in January after all!!!!!! Simply down to the departure times!!! Actually Thais mid-day flight departure from Heathrow would be my best option! but as they cost more and have no IFE I think maybe Qatar are the better option??? As the flights both ways are "only"!!! 3 or 4 hours longer! Also I havent flown non-direct to Bangkok for about 10 years now!!!! Danmn! decisions decisions!!
  22. Nice one N3RGT! It always make me feel better once the flight is booked! Somehow makes it seem "nearer"! I want to fly out on Jan.14 and return Feb.13. At work yesterday checking rosters etc etc! and saw that on the 13th Feb (Saturday I wanted to fly home on!) Wales are playing Scotland at home, in the 6 nations! Thats messing my plans up now!!!! 1 I want to see the game! 2, I always get picked up at Heathrow by a mate! (he will watch the game!) so if I have to travel home by train etc ! with Eva getting in at 19,00 ish it will be a pain in the ass getting home that time of day! So!!!! the way I see it is!! either I fly back a day earlier? or else I go with Qatar? Of course! Qatar are cheaper, and the times are better for me! Except for the departure time from Heathrow!!!! As it leaves at 09.50. I work on the railway and have free train travel, so thats no worries! Its just that if I take that particular flight it will be hard fpr me to get there by train! So I guess i can either try and get a lift to Heathrow or go by bus!!!!! Damn problems! Anyway glad youve got your flights sorted mate! Also dont know if you are aware, but with Eva you can (with "some"" tickets!) check in on-line? This can only be done 24 hours (ie if flight leaves @21.30 on the 2nd! you can check in online from 21.30 on the 1st! Benifit here being you can book a seat upstairs in economy (slighly more room in seats and can stretch a little more!). also its slightly quicker to check in at the airport (especially at Bangkok where they have a dedicated online check in counter at the airport!).All little things for sure! but for me they make the trip a little less of a pain in the ass! As you can probably see.Im a fan of Evas! so I want to book with them, but my heart (and my head really as Ill save £100) is telling me to book with Qatar!
  23. I agree really! I only go once a year too! In fact when I went in Jan/Feb this year, I booked from Evas web-site for £530. I booked that ,last year (when the oil prices were going nuts!) Its difficult knowing "when" to book! Im lucky , in the fact I have a house over there (so dont need hotels), even so, its getting what I think is a good deal at the right time! I will more than likely go with Eva again (and up-grade to elite using my miles on the way out!).Im just waiting for Eva to drop their fares! As an aside, with West-East Travel they regularly have specials with both Thai and Eva, may be worth phoning them every few weeks or so? As sometimes they quote better fares over the phone than on their web-site?
  24. N3RGT January/Feb is a long way off yet!!!!!! (Im going the same time as you mate! and Im checking fares like you already!!!!! ). I reckon Eva will lower their fares (or am I just hoping!) before next year, but who can tell? I am quite tempted by Qatar though, as the flight arrives in Bangers at 07.00!!!!! But!!!!! saying that I think Ill wait until Eva reduce their fares (saying that they probably wont now Im waiting!)
