  1. OK! Many thanks for the replies guys. Sounds logical enough to me ............but I wanted to check! It would have been nice to not go through the "immigration queues nightmare" that is Bangkok though! Thanks again all.
  2. Well Ive been going to Thailand for over 30 years now. Always flown into Bangkok (obviousy!) Then got out of airport and got a taxi to either Bangkok or to Pattaya. Next time however. Im getting the noon flight from London, arrive in Bangkok next morning. Then getting a connecting flight to Chiang Mai (both flights are on Thai Airways). SO! Do I clear immigration and customs in Bangkok or in Chiang Mai? Has anybody (from U.K.) done this recently please? Many thanks in advance
  3. Its like I say "personally I don't use them........Id rather walk, use my bike or get a moto taxi. I don't use them because, I find them hot , stuffy, stop start, etc etc. I appreciate lots of people use them.......but I just don't like them! Further, I think there are way to many of them, they cause traffic jams too. I appreciate the traffic management is Pattaya is.....at the best abysmal........and for me? These pick ups make it worse. There will be one right behind the other, just crawling along Id be ALL FOR a "proper pick-up taxi system". But Ive been going to Thaioand
  4. Personally I use either my little motor bike or motor bike taxis. The pick up taxis are a real P.I.T.A. for me personally. Ive never ever seen a shortage of them either? Quite the opposite in fact. Jeez even walking they will stop and beep for your custom (even when Im walking in the opposite direction?). Crossing the roads too, they will stop and ask if you want a ride? I can see why some people love them....................as for me I can still walk distances, so no worries for me. Maybe when Im older and have mobility problems I may use them...but not for the moment!
  5. Ok I haven't stayed there myself, but I may try it out for a few nights next trip. I have the use of "my" old house , over the darkside.....but I like to stay somewhere in town for a few days at a time.....but they must have a pool!
  6. How about the chaba garden resort hotel? Near 3rd street? Looks OK and it has a pool? Not too far from Soi Buakhow etc? Maybe worth looking into!?
  7. All the Thais I know love MK.! ive not seen them doing the dance routine there...............though I do remember years ago.! I used to go into Mike Department Store..........................just to see ALL! the staff dancing whenever Chiil Cha Cha came on!
  8. Thanks for posting the pics. I worked near Munich when I was much younger.............but never got around to visiting Dachau. We should never forget what happened, and I think its important we (and the future generations) never forget too.
  9. Have a look at this http://www.kasikornbank.com/EN/RatesAndFees/ForeignExchange/Pages/ForeignExchange.aspx
  10. I flew with Thai in Jan and Feb this year (economy only!). For abut the last 6 or more times I flew with Eva (mostly because of the lack of I.C.E plus Eva were always cheaper!). This time however Thai worked out cheaper, plus had a free internal flight in with the price. I was impressed with Thai, they were a lot better than when I last flew with them, better than Eva Id say. I hope they have the jumbos on the LHR=BKK route next Jnauary time! Ps It wasn't a 747 I flew on in January,
  11. Great post. Some are saying Patts isnt what it used to be etc etc......maybe so..everything changes.......But Id sooner be there than in cold wet miserable stressful UK. Sure the N.H.S. is great...............but I pay for it...........Hospitals in Thailand are great modern and efficient etc.......for me though ? The biggest advantage of living in Patts (or most places in Thailand in fact!) is the way I feel! ......ie. much happier relaxed not stressed and generally smile all day long!
  12. I must be mega unlucky then! EVERY! time Ive flown with Thai, they have been packed! Same with Eva! I normally go in Jan or Feb or March!
  13. Im keeping my "my old green" license for as long as I can. Ive not heard anything though of "compulsory" changes over to the new rip off pay every 10 years license though?
  14. Im also flying with Thai the end of January.....as you say.they are cheaper than Eva (who Ive been using for years!) now. I originally booked a "B" seat, but a few weeks ago I looked on seat guru (as Tom has posted) and saw that B seats have the I.F.E. box as do K! So a quick phone call to West East to change the seat numbers!

  16. Feeling good now! Cos not only am I going to Patts in January (after a 2 year absence!) but the fare has gone up about £60 now!
  17. Sorry ! I meant! I prefer to leave Bangkok at midnight ish! The fare lets you leave and depart on either of Thais daily flights to and fro! In the past it was usually more restrictive!
  18. Hello Thai have recently started a "promotion" . So Ive just booked a return for January for £615..........not mega cheap for sure!.but it has a free internal flight in Thailand as well. so £615 to Bangers from Heathrow, with a Chiang Mai flight (or where ever you want t go to!) thrown in. Ive not flown Thai for years now, been using Eva as Thais 747s have no I.F.E , (at least for a peasnt like me in cattle class!). Now Thai are using smaller airbuses, which have (for me anyway) the all important screen in seat backs! Also for me, Thais flight times are better, as I prefer leaving Heathrow
  19. Re Sutus Court! I like to sunbathe dering the day (Hey Im getting old! so cant drink all day anymore! lol!!) Does the pool area get the sum during the day please? Cheers! Thanks for any answers!
  20. Plus...........Ive seen some good prices with them over the last few days!
  21. Eva are having a "sale"! (booking through their website!) sale lasts until tomorrow...........then next weekend too! I can book lhr bkk for £530 (using 10.000 miles on eva flight programme)
  22. Ive been stopped once....................in about 30 years! I had a bottle of duty free whisky . They asked me if I had any more! (which I didnt!).
  23. Lol!!!!! Nice one! Thats what I was worried about to be honest!! I think Ill give em a miss and book on Eva!
  24. Im looking to book for february, best i can find (direct) is £560 with eva. I normally fly with eva, but I want to try to get into thai "earlier"? (i mean as eva leave heathrow at 21.30 I dont get into patts until the evening!) As its just basically a "wasted day"! (waiting for the evening flight from london that is! I was looking at other carriers who fly out earlier! Jet are one of them! (sri lankan another!)/ Have you flown Jet before? And if so! How were they? (Ive looked online for reviews etc but asking here for real advice!) . I "assume!" Sri Lankan wont be much good!? All I want
  25. Persuaded me too! I normally use Servis air lounge too..........but as said it aint too great! Could be well worth the extra couple of quid by the look of it!
