  1. Worst Bangladesh Airways (Biman). I flew with these on my first ever trip to Thailand. That would have been about 1983 . I was a "back-packer" then...........I still thought they were crap though! Fast forward another 12 years to 1995.....I again flew with Bangladesh Airways, thinking that they couldnt have been as bad as I remembered? Wrong! They were worse! Still crappy planes (I "think" it was a DC 10 or something!) the passengers?..... most stunk!, lots of kids and babies throwing up everywhere, the food was in-edible...just plain crap! The best? Another time, maybe the lat
  2. Its the end of the month Im going. Ive been going to Thailand for about 38 years now. Back in the day, I used bucket shops, used exchange and mart to find consolidators, phoned around dozens of travel agents etc etc etc. The last few years, Ive also used the airlines own web-sites, Qatar as well as Thai. It does give me piece of mind , yes, plus the e-ticket is sent out instantly etc etc. I could have flown with somebody like ie. Emirates, for about £200 cheaper, booking through various places. I am quite happy to pay what I think is a decent price. Sure, I may have saved a
  3. Well I booked for my January trip, via Thais web-site last night. I paid £623.....Managed to book, one of the best seats too! I normally have an aisle seat, as Im always going for a pee, and like to walk around etc. But in the upstairs economy section on the A380, the window seats have a big "pocket" , by the window, where you can put your gear. Also the seat i booked is a bulk-head seat, so no seas in front....means its easy for me to keep getting in and out of my seat! Of course, it would be even better, if the seat next to me is empty! Its a big Birthday for me in 2020.
  4. Ah OK! Sorry i read it wrong! Im 100% with you saying farangs are prime targets for getting fined!
  5. Gus I just went on Thai web-site..!!!! The fares have gone down!! (well for my trip in January anyway!) Upstairs economy is £623 "normal" economy is £529 Probably be a few quid less if booking with West East or similar too! May well book it tonight.
  6. Ive had 4 seats to myself one time, the other time, I was lucky and had 2 seats...the other 2 times, I didnt have any vacant seats next to mine....but there were a few people with more than one seat! Its slightly less "busy" up there, the toilets dont seem to have as big a queue..plus.I get 75% mileage with them! I realise its more expensive than "normal" economy...but I think its a little better up there..Apparently, they dont have babies up there too....so it seems a bit "quieter".
  7. I meant, the ages! of the Thais driving motor-bikes! Ive seen kids about 9 years old riding them! Im pretty sure, they wont have any! kind of license! As for people holding their babes in arms, with one hand, and using just one hand to control a motor bike...how is that safe! I dont think its cynical! I think its plain madness!
  8. Im also waiting for Thai, to "drop" their fares! , for my trip in January. Im going in 4 weeks time with them.,I booked that in about May..I got a good deal then, when they were having one of their "promotions". I "prefer" , to sit upstairs in economy on the A380, the fare costs more than the usual economy...but i do prefer it . "Hopefully", they will drop their price soon, so I can book the January trip! I also like Eva, but I much prefer the Thai flight times. I have seen B.A. for about £460 direct for January....just dont fancy them though!!
  9. The only time I carry my passport with me, is when Im changing money. Never taken my driving license, just the I.D.L. I assume most traffic cops cant read English anyway. I leave my license under the seat, in a plastic bag, so its always there for when the cops want to see it. Im with others on the driving thing....You see kids driving motorbikes, some are really young...no helmets nothing! Pretty sure they dont have any license! What I will NEVER!! understand though, is the mum/father/sister/brother etc, riding a bike one handed, carrying a babe in arms with the other arm!
  10. I dont use the baht bus very often....i When I do I just take a seat! Im too "old"! to be standing on the "step"! As regards the driving license. I just use my I.D.L. and leave it "under the seat" on the motorbike. Been asked for the license a few times. sometimes been fined for some non existent offence Ive "commited", other times, Ive just been waved on. In "theory", my I.D.L. license is for a car anyway!....not a motorbike , so I just go with the flow! Ive never been a fan of the B.I.B. in Thailand, just so damn corrupt! But I suppose I just have to put up with these
  11. As for cost to get to LHR..........I work on the railways....so I get free train travel. Time wise? Not much in it really....obviously going non stop....saves about 5 hours or so...so that negates the travellling to L.H.R. The older Im getting...I just much prefer the non stop flights...also the slightly narrower seat width ( on Qatar) swung it for me. Also I prefer the departure/arrival times with Thai airways..The final sweetener for using Thai? I used some air-miles to knock the fare down to £405!
  12. Ive flown Qatar a couple of years ago,,,,,,,from Heathrow, 3 of the legs were on the A380 and 1 leg was on the 777.....Though Im "sure" the 777 was in the old 3-3-3- configuration then?
  13. As above really. I got an e-mail from Qatar, as they have just started a new service from Cardiff to Doha.....Could habe got a flight for £402...connection times were good too. Cardiff is my nearest airport....yet I booked just today..with Thai Airways! Got them for £525.(booked on their web-site) , could get it cheaper elsewhere.(saw it for £500)...but I couldnt be arsed....so booked it on the Thai web-site. Reason. I didnt book Qatar? I prefer the flight times with Thai, I prefer direct flights...also I think at least one of the legs with Qatar was on a 777...Qatar now have a 3-
  14. Thanks for all the replies guys.. Some good advice given......appreciated.
  15. Good morning all. I have the use of a house (on the darkside), which I can use for my twice yearly visits. I "hope" to retire in 2 to 3 years. I was going to wait, until retirement time. before I got internet into the house. Ive been thinking recently though, that I may get it next trip (September/October time this year), rather that wait a couple of years. My reason being, I dont go out every night drinking now (getting older etc!).If I stay at home, I usually watch a D.V.D. in the house (I have the "original"! 20 inch T.V I bought 15 odd years ago!). Im now thinking, its b
  16. Ive not flown with them before. I have looked, but when I looked it was a longer layover.. For the price, and a very short layover, it sounds great. I read online reviews, which suggest its a decent airline.
  17. I assume the "priority", is that bags labelled as priority, are put on the belt first............... In theory at least!
  18. I "think" there are 5 types/grades of room.. (or is it 3?) From 1 to..5! 1 being the "best/dearest. I stayed there once, booked a 2 type room, they put me in a 1 . Nice location, nice pool, cheap for what it is..Id stay there again
  19. A shame that. I always fly Thai..though I use the mid-day flight, which uses the A380...I was considering the night time flight FOR THIS October...........but I dont think I will bother now, will stick with the A380.
  20. I always used to take travlellers cheques.... But not for a God few years now! As has been have to pay a fair bit to change every cheque, plus not so many places take them now. I take cash, plus use my debit card as back up.
  21. Thats the way its always worked for me too? Whenever Ive booked a "cheaper" economy ticket, wasnt able to book upstairs.
  22. Im "hoping!" that there will be more spare seats upstairs as opposed to downstairs.. I doubt it though!.... I think , Ive only had a spare seat next to me , on 2 occasions with Thai........On one memorable trip with Thai......I had 3! seats to myself... inbound and outbound! I have been booking my tickets with West East travel for years now........But the last two times...Ive booked on Thais website..They are a few quid more , than using West East...but I prefer it. Never tried phoning TG in London to book flights..
  23. i know its still economy! Im just "hoping"! , upstairs will be slightly better/quieter etc. Im too mean to pay business class fares!.........I wish though. that Thai would have introduced premium economy seats, on the UK flights
