  1. Ahhhhhhhhhh Yes! If I can't be in Thailand, Vegas is the next best thing. Have fun!
  2. Same here! I spend a minimum of 6 months per trip, any joiner fee's would easily shorten my trip dramatically. Joiner fee's are charged to either discourage a person from staying at that particular hotel......or just a pure rip-off. Family travelers staying at the "luxury" hotels can use the short time hotels or knowingly pay the joiner fee. Far too many good hotels in Pattaya and BKK that are more than friendly too have us travelers resort to this EXTORTION! And, as unpopular a subject this is.....I also rarely pay barfines, again B500 a day times 180 days = B90,000. The money I save is put to good use by paying the ladies well, dinner, sidetrips, shopping etc. While I like to spend the majority of my time in BKK.........I find plenty of tail without doing the barfine deal. Just what works for me. Your Mileage May Vary!
  3. Joiner fee's are simply a rip-off. Luxury "family" hotels put them in place to discourage people from using their facilities for anything other than family vacations. I come to Pattaya to have fun and would NEVER stay at a hotel that wants to charge me extra to bring someone home! For the people here that do travel with their family, they can simply use the short time hotel option. IMHO, if you pay these fee's you simply contribute to the scam.
  4. Sounds like they are trying to discourage "guests" I would give the place a pass and move on to friendlier pastures.
  5. Yeah...thats the scary part. I would only ride the motorcycles during the daytime and usually not in Pattaya except out of town. Once out of Pattaya you can ride forever on backroads and just explore, obviously the same can be done in a rental car in much more comfort. I have never rented a car so have no idea about prices or insurance. I do know that any accident in Thailand, foreighner vs falang.....falang at fault and will pay $$$$. Also, you will most likely be hit up by the traffic cops in and outside of Pattaya. Falang's are targets for "tea money" when driving. In all my trips it seems to be getting worse and worse. Last time in 2003 I was heading towards Sattahip with my TG dejur. We were completely legal, helmets etc....Highway patrol cop waves me down and stops me, says you pay B500. I ask why...no engrish, tg ask why and gets no answer.....you pat B500. I rarely lose my temper but did with this asshole as it was a pure and obvious shakedown for $$$. My tg actually had to pull me away before I ended up face down in the jungle. Sucks, but T.I.T. Have a fun trip no matter how you travel!
  6. No problem, just suggestions. Remember...in Thailand if you are in an accident 99% chance your fault no matter what (all about the $$$$) I used motorcycles on my sidetrips outside of Pattaya on a daily basis, car would offer you much more protection and comfort though. There are great sights to see outside Pattaya no matter how you choose to travel! Food from fishing village: My ride (LOL): The rest are near Buddah Hill:
  7. Do you really need a car in Pattaya? Transportation is very cheap and available 24 hours a day. Renting a motorcycle is as easy as $$$$ and a copy of your passport. I have rented them many times to take sidtrips during the daytime. Never have I been asked for any type of license. Motorcycles........very dangerous even for seasoned riders. Weather...............hmmmmmm, hot, humid, some rain. Repeat on an hourly basis. No problem tanning though.
  8. Only about 10-15 miles. I have never used it though. Its at Sattahip.
  9. I used my United miles for 4 roundtrips and an Ipod. You may actually be lucky to be able to use the miles before the scumbags finalize bankruptcy! UNITED SUCKS!
  10. Fine used to be around B400. They also used to give you a 24 hour "no helmet" pass once you paid the fine. Makes sense to me!
  11. Thanks for the info, sounds like one hell of a deal. Surprised to see the in-room safe. Will have to give it a try!
  12. How long is your stay gonna be? There are many serviced apartments everywhere. I have used Centre Pointe in the past, there are 3-4 locations. Nana, Patpong etc. http://www.centrepoint.com/
  13. Pretty amazing stuff.
  14. And they forgot how to give head and be nice!
  15. Flying is easy, only about an hour flight. You need 2 passport size photo's to give immigration at the airport in Phnom Phen (you can get them at don muang photo booths). I think the visa you get on arrival is about $20 U.S. Be sure and take very small $$$$ with you. I spent U.S. money during my trip. I can be difficult to change larger bills.
  16. I also sit at the bar near Om......This is just very sad news. She was always friendly with a warm smile and heart. RIP OM
  17. Just seems like a lot of walking around carrying a laptop. It's LOS, each to their own devices
  18. Yes you can connect from your hotel in 95% of the rooms. Where are you staying? All you need is the Loxinfo service you can buy at any 7-11, Big C etc. It gives you the phone number to call, username and password, Just plug your laptop into your room phone line and away you go.
  19. Why not just buy the internet card at 7-11 and connect from your room? Cards are cheap. I have not had any luck using internet cafe's using my own laptop.
  20. Just my luck...United did it too me on the way to BKK. Initially they stranded me at LAX, finally put me on China Airlines, landed in Taipai too late for connection to bkk and had to spend the night at a way overpriced hotel next to the airport. United was accomodating....they offered me a $100 travel voucher good only for domestic travel. F*** United!
  21. One Lucky Guy! In my 20+ trips i've never been thast lucky...matter of fact I usually have to make something up too stay longer! Make United PAY! I use them on all my trips, trying to use up my miles before they go belly up in bankruptcy!
  22. Utapo is near Sattahip, about 20 miles from Pattaya. Should be easy to get a cab or baht bus. Take a look at the Residence Garden hotel links here, great place in the middle of Pattaya and Jomtien.
  23. I can't remember the prices to well, think it was about B15000 for a month. They asked for a small deposit and copy of my passport. I have been riding in the states for 35+ years and 4 years in Thailand. Thailand is just flat dangerous for motorcycles. I would only use my rental (Honda 1100)outside the city and never at night whee drinking.
  24. There is a place on beach road near 7-11 called Pattaya Seat. I have rented from them many times with little problem. He once rented me a Honda 1100 that broke down on me in Sattahip, I called him and he sent a baht bus to pick me up and take the bike back. BE VERY CAREFUL riding in Thailand.
  25. This is all over the U.S. News. Beginning April 14, 2005 ALL cig lighters will be banned on commercial flights. No disposable lighters, Zippo's etc. In their infinate wisdom they will allow you to carry FOUR books of matches though! Amazing thought process!
