  1. Thanks, I have PMd a member called cod head, hope he replies.
  2. Hi, anyone want to share a taxi? Arrive BKK 15 October at 06.40 am on China Airlines from Amsterdam CI66, will book a taxi on to Pattaya.
  3. Thnaks Piero, your address was the correct one, I got a reply after about one week from them, and got my room booked. At 600 baht in October ,per night, its got to be a bargain. I've never stayed anywhere else in the last 15 years.
  4. I have sent two emails, to book my stay in October, sent them last week and three weeks ago, but no replies so far. Usually they reply within a few days, they know me there. I'm using info@intownholiday.co.th I've only ever used that email, and I've only ever stayed at that hotel over the last 15 years, so wondered if anything had changed there? I can't think they have changed their email, but if any board members know otherwise, I would be grateful. I don't want to arrive without confirmation, and as I say, I've never stayed anywhere else so don't know where else I should try.
  5. Hi all, thanks for the useful replies, yes, I am on China which gets in at 9.10. The next flight to Humberside is 9.55, so they probably think its too short a time to make the connection. So, as the 13.00 has been cancelled, I will be there until I get the 16.35... AGAIN. From where I live its a 2 and half hour train journey to Manchester if I ever wanted to go from there, as opposed to a 40 min taxi from my house to Humberside, that would be a lot more hassle. Did it once when travel agent ( no not in business) forgot to book me... turned up at Humberside at 8.00 for the 9.50 flight to Amsterdam, just getting on the plane when KLM said agent had forgotten to book flight conection to BKK, ( although they had got me on the first leg to AMS) can you get to Manchester? Taxi to Barnetby, takes 10 mins, then train every hour direct to Manchester airport, they had got me on one about 18.00 to Frankfurt and then connection on to BKK, all with Lufthansa. Amazingly I only got to BKK 6 hrs after I would have if on my first choice flight. I was just happy to be there at all, agent refunded me train fare etc. With the return, they sent me the same way, but it meant I had one more day in LOS.
  6. Dennissmore, with your band of men, my flight gets to Schipol at 9.10 and they wont book me on to the 9.50 to Humberside as there is not enougth time to make the transfer. But thanks for the advice, mate.
  7. Just thought I'd let you know that I have booked two seperate trips recently, my last leg of the jouney from LOS is on the 13.05 Amsterdam- Humberside flight and each time it has been cancelled before I've even started and they put me on the 16.35 instead. As my flight from BKK gets to AMS at 09.00, I have a long wait. My point is that each time I have booked and had confirmation of the 13.00 flight, a week or so later I get an email from KLM saying I'm on the later flight. I booked it on the web with airline network as usual, not their fault I suppose but why keep advertising these flights when they can't deliver? I don't have a great deal of choice now I've booked. Anyone had a similar experience?
  8. Or walk up Soi 11 Honey Inn, there are at least three there, first is on the RHS after about 100 yards and called Star Laundry, within the Star Inn hotel. A mate of mine who used the laundry found out which soap powder they used, brought some and brought it back to use in UK, how sad is that! The smell reminded him of his holiday.
  9. It is baking hot, but not too hot for you to get around, and I found the humidity was OK. I went last year and was expecting the worst in weather, but it was OK, sunny days and small amount of rain and clouds, just a bit hotter than usual. But be aware that the Sonkran festival happens sometime in the month, so you will get a soaked anyway whatever the weather if you are there that that week
  10. I've only been in January/Feb, which is great because its dry and not too hot, but can come on 19 October this year, for 3 weeks. I've read that it is likely to be 'rainy' season still -can anyone put me right as to what its like? Is it a bit like rainy days in UK but of course more heat/humidity? Does it rain so much it puts you off going out? Or is the rain welcome, cooling everything down a bit. Any advice welcome.
  11. Thanks for all the help, folks, for which I am grateful. Am now arranging lift from distant relatives (exs brother and sister ) and will pay them instead, even if it works out the same price will be a better, door to door service.
  12. I welcome the info on this bar and will give it a try next time I'm in town, but hope it's better than TQ1 which I went to in February this year, very ordinary and quite a dated feel about the place.
  13. Anyone flown with them? I need to fly to Buriram from BKK soon after landing in Thailand. Many years ago I went to Buriram by taxi ( took ages but its a long way, invioted driver in for a meal when I got there which he accepted, I'm please to say) or by air with Thai airways, but now a crew called PB Air do the route and I just wondered if they were OK and reliable? I'm not thinking of booking online just take my chance and book on the day.
  14. For UK based BMs, I read in the Daily Telegraph today that flight tax is going up in November, just wondered if I booked a flight now for departure in Nov would I get stung for the increased tax? Perhaps it makes sense to get a trip in BEFORE November.
  15. Don, where abouts is this sign? I have a mate who will take a picture
  16. Who do you book with for that price? The airline direct?
  17. Hi all, anyone around to share a taxi from airport to Pattaya on 9th Feb? I arrive on CI66 from Amsterdam at 07.10 am.
  18. Just thought you might like to know, if you're a BA shareholder you get 10% discount off flights booked on line. You only need 200 shares to qualify, and at the current price of around £1.55 per share, plus commission, you can get the stash you need for under £350. Woth buying shares if you travel by BA, who, IMO, are one of the best carriers around.
  19. which airline and what times, any stop overs?
  20. Thanks folks, being a non techy type I can inform you that my computer is 2 yrs old and the connection is with Virgin, it states ' Speed 128 kbps, sent 723,000, recieved 7.3M' . Now this sounds to me to be pretty slow, perhaps I should contct them to see if they can get me a faster connection. I signed up for a year to get the free phone calls so hopefully they should help me. I don't live in a part of the country where slow speeds are the norm as far as I know. Is the way I should do it, can anyone tell me? Thanks again
  21. For no reason, the videos on Pattaya Talk and anywhere else I watch them such as You Tube won't play right through but instead have that annoying 'pause' every few seconds. It is too frustrating to watch them as a result, a 5 min video takes 10 minutes to play. It has always worked just fine but this change has happenned for no apparant reason, and any help any BMs could give me in how to solve this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Benny 27
  22. was a report in Nottm evening post, but no mention of cause. But when I saw him ( April this year) last he told me he had cyrhosis of the liver due to heavy drinking and had only been given a short time to live. He was pretty upbeat about it, at the time, and I'm guessing that's wht he died of
  23. I met Dave a few times, a larger than life character who kept everyone entertained with his stories. I think he had a motorbike business at one time in Nottingham ( on the Ilkeston Road I think - I only say this because I used to live there), which his brother took over. He lived somewhere off Soi Buhkaow. Last time I saw him was April this year, at his mate Johns Guest house in 'The Village' opp the fire station.
  24. Thanks for all the replies, they are all very helpful. Unfortunately I do not have a credit card, but have heard the following: If you book on an ABTA/ATOL agent and the airline goes bust, you are covered by the agent's membership of these schemes . If you book DIRECT to an airline and they go bust, you will lose your money if you pay by debit card. If you pay by credit card you have some protection. So will probably book with the agent to get that ABTA 'cover.' Southall Travel look the cheapest at the moment. Most travel insurance policies do not cover for the airline going bust. Yes, you are correct in saying China Airlines is Taiwan based and nothing to do with mainland China. I went with them about 8 years ago and they were very good in fact. But I'm not bothered who gets me there, just the best price.
  25. Saw a flight from my local airport in UK to Bkk via Amsterdam, booking for whole of the trip is on China Airlines own website. First leg is KLM. then China Airlines Amsterdam to BKK. Looks a good deal for me, but has anyone used this China Airlines website to book? Is it reliable? Can't see any of those ABTA/ATOL symbols like you can on e bookers, Thomas Cook, etc. Thanks for any replies. I would be paying by debit card
