Never been a problem for me either. I usually just hold up the device and the lady just nods her approval to use it. As with most hardware, it's often best to buy it from the country you use it most in. Pros: Too many to mention. Size, portability, storage size, able to store different media types, easy access, etc, etc. Cons: I truly cannot think of any. A few years ago, the cost would have been prohibitive but they are so cheap now and the storage size has increased considerably.
