I note Jacko you have recently rented on 'the other side of the Suk', where abouts are you?...how old are you, if you wanted to rent one of my bikes you could have one for 2000 baht per month

I was under the impression a 60 day tourist visa allowed you 60 days initially and then you could get a 30 day extention and from there on you had to leave the country every 30 days. I have a 12 month multiple business visa and when that 12 month expires I have to exit the country every 30 days unless I go back to the UK and get another 12 months. Regarding bikes again, why buy off a Thai (if you dont trust them) many farang buy bikes then move on after 6-12 months...plenty of farang owned bikes about..take it to a reputable dealer to get it checked out and do a deal if OK...I nearly sold my bikes after recently aquiring a vehicle though changed my mind, both 6 months old 2000klms on clock and would have accepted the prices quoted on my last post, plenty to be saved for someone like yourself.

How do you go about only having to go on a visa run every 2 months? If you have a multiple entry 12 month, its every three months and single entry are good for 90 days then you have to go every month...so what kind of visa do you have where you go every 2 months? Regarding buying a bike, get one under a year old and the depreciation would be neglible...buy a nouvo for 56000 baht new will be worth 40k on leaving the shop...buy a wave 125i for 46000 and it will be worth 38000.

Bob's BBQ Website getting closer to completion.
kolobos replied to BobsBBQ's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Bob, Not to be over critical though I think it may be worth while to run spelling and grammar checks on your new news section on your site. Another point whilst I am at it, why not dress the tables at your gaff? Your food maybe the best in Pattaya but from the outside your restaurant doesn't look that inviting and on a recent visit with 3 friends, we decided to boycott due to the appearance. Hope you can accept my comments in the light they are intended -
A wind generator...surely a solar panel would be a much better and guaranteed alternative? FWIW, My electricity bill is between 1750-2700 per month and I have A/C units throughout the house and a pump on my pool that is constant for 12 hours a day. Have no idea what the 'extra' is on the elec bill...with it being your first, maybe some form of connection or was it the previous occupants unpaid bill? Dont be a procrastinator and get down to the office!!!

What days were bars closed during King celebration
kolobos replied to SiamOne's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Can only speak for myself but I did not close -
I visited this eatery for the second time on Monday night after turning up at All Eats 99 baht buys all, only to find it closed (Always closed Mondays). What a fantastic place this is!...the decor of the place is a dump and unfinished (true Thai style) yet the food and service is TOP NOTCH... I ordered the set dinner which gives you a choice of 2 different main courses and an additional 4 courses. On this particular night I was in the company of 5 who all ate different meals Thai/Farang and not a scrap was left on everyone’s plate. It started off with spring roll that was served to everyone and was gratis, which was a nice surprise. My first course was a smoked chicken salad with vinaigrette; the salad was fresh and crispy, vinaigrette just tangy enough and the chicken succulent. Second, was a cabbage and bacon soup that was extremely tasty, although I prefer clear soups this was a real winner. My main, I chose pork escalope in a tame curry sauce served on a bed of rice accompanied by balls of summer fruits...very different Dessert, a home made chocolate mouse...that came in a large margarita glass...and although it was a delight they could easily get away with serving a smaller portion. A coffee to finish and I was stuffed!!! When you think that this food is properly and professionally prepared (the chef is the ex-chef of 'BRUNO'S') and everything was hot to the table, the cost of this meal was 295 baht...an absolute bargain in my book. The total bill for the 5 of us, including drinks was 1090 baht I like to eat good food irrelevant of price and thoroughly recommend this place. The Cherry Restaurant on 3rd Road opposite X-cite For those who are interested, here are some clickable pics of the menu and food at this joint from my third visit

It makes sense but you cannot book a return flight from Thailand if your outbound journey is UK/BKK. So naturally you have to be here in the first place. I flew to Thailand one Xmas and the cost UK/BKK return was nearly £900, last Xmas I few BKK/UK return and the cost was £450. Normally there is a cost saving to book over here but I have a feeling that agents are getting a little smart and are pumping prices up, IMO

I comment on my own personal experiences when I say that a standard UK license will do, I have been stopped by the police and fined (no, not back handers...but a trip to the station) on approx a dozen occasions...at first all I had was the old paper license and it was not a problem...I now have the new plastic picture license and it does the trick...no questions, no requests for any other form of license whatsoever...I have been living here for over 18 months now
-
A standard UK license will suffice and a bike should be available with insurance from 2000 baht upwards

If you are doing a run....make sure you are going to PRUM, it is 100 klms closer than TRAT (215 klms in total). Taking into consideration that the visa fees are 1300 (including the Cambodia...im not staying here a day so pay us 300 baht fine) I think you have a good deal at 1700. I drive to PRUM myself and it costs me over 1000 baht in gas alone

Posted on another thread.... I have lived on the 'wrong side' of the sukhumvit as one poster puts it, in an area 7 klms up siam country road near Mapbrachan for nearly 18 months. I have no problem with transportation when I am not using my own, as baht buses and bikes are always readily available. I have had no problem with 'gangs' and I travel around the area at all times of the day especially between 3-5am, I have heard stories of gangs but never experienced. I would have thought gangs would be better targeting area's where there is an abundance of farang ie. 'the right side' of the sukhumvit. I have experienced no problems with ownership of my home or security around it. I love the peace and quiet of the country and that the beach and party times are only a stone's throw away. There is also a great ex-pat community over this side shared with many bars (drinking and ST) and many good eating houses and as a bonus no tourists who have lost the plot. I would however advise to rent in the first instance until you know you'll be happy. Best of luck in your endeavours

My experience (back to the UK) and I have used her several times is, Lucky at Luckys Travel on Soi Buakhao across from Sweethearts bar not far from the South market
-
Rule of thumb is 50% of your initial visa period, not exceeding 45 days for a 90 day visa
-
Right...so this guy has built up a business with numerous rental bikes outside...but he doesn't have or offer any insurance on them? Norman, you are a right proper lemon...since when do you go renting anything without insurance, when do you ever rent anything without asking about insurance??? Oh and by the way, the insurance in question for motorcycle rental is called rental insurance and is readily available...so why not have this filthy piece of shit exposed in all the media and get him shut down...I mean after all he is gonna pulp your ass anyway if you don't cough the cash up (soft lad)...!

Its a fact that if I invested 40mil baht in Thailand I would certainly want to live somewhere larger than 1 rai. This is a law that is in practise and at least gives you a chance to own a rai...I wouldn't have minded having a rai of prime land pre-property boomtime in say 'Bangkok' for instance! I have read your source regading the 1 year time limit, although my lawyer friend says that if it is bequeathed and there is nobody else named in the last will and testament this information is incorrect??? Regarding The EC...My friends and I all think this is somewhat 'shady'...I comment on this no further
-
Oh, I also forgot that farang can own land and house upto 1 rai if he/she was to invest 40 million baht in a Thai company and obtain the permission from the Minister of Interior
-
Elef, Maybe you can correct me once again?...though as I am aware, if farang have possesion of the 'yellow book' and his Thai wife was to die, she can bequeath the land to her spouse.
-
As I am aware under 18 can not by property. Farangs can own land....controversial? Well no, not really...look into having the YELLOW BOOK for land ownership...farang can legally own land upto 1 rai. However, thinking of buying land, why put it in a Thai's name anyway...put it through a company and sleep well at night
-
Well, my bar was open both nights and needless too say...cleaned the bar of ale...good nights had I am led to believe that the bars will not have to close on the 19th due to Songkran. Either way my bar will be open

kolobos replied to lovenokia's topic in General Discussion about Pattaya
Any Starbucks have wireless internet. Turn on computer and it will automatically connect to their hotspot and open web browser to this url https://shop.ksc.net/ you don't have to buy a card as you can purchase over the net from as little as 150 baht for an hours usage.
