Flamingo Is a Suite For Christmas a Good Deal?

Recommended Posts

I am looking at a first time trip to Pattaya for Christmas - struck out on the RG for a week, so I have been e-mailing for availibility elsewhere, one reply is a suite at Flamingo Hotel for BHT 2,450 a night and BHT 1,500 for car service at BKK airport when I arrive.

The web site looks OK, the map shows from Soi 1 to 17 in about one inch so I am not sure where it is relative to anything - any opinions would be appreciated - they want a 2 night deposit and I am not sure how refundable that is so I don't want to commit to anything unless I am sure it is a OK deal.

rick,

I think it is a "gay-friendly" hotel and is certainly located in a predominantly gay area.  Obviously I know nothing more about the place!

Tom

Well, that may be if it is a good location otherwise then maybe .... they have a map here:

http://www.flamingohotelthailand.com/home/index.html

then the location selection on the left - this map doesn't look ANYTHING like the map I am viewing online - with Soi 17 and S. Pattaya Rd parallel and with Soi's 1,2,3 running off S. Pattaya Road - can anyone actually tell me where this is, like a hotel I can find on a map to compare location?

I have sent requests to Sandy Springs, both Flippers, both Sabai's , and Roof Garden with no replies yet. Of course it is 11 at night there.

Here is the map I am using: from Thai Airways:

http://www.thaiwaysmagazine.com/pattaya_ma...ap_pattaya.html

if someone can give me a reference point to figure this out I'd be a happy man.

rick,

Scroll down your Thaiways map until you are looking at South Pattaya Road. What is marked as "Temple" on the Flamingo map is Wat Chai Mong Khon on the Thaiways map. Directly opposite the Wat/Temple is Shown as Day Night Hotel on both maps and the Flamingo is about 60 metres behind the Day Night. The Thaiways map is of too large a scale to show the number of Sois running off South Pattaya Road.

Hope this helps,

Tom

Thanks. I have found this map:

http://www.guidetothailand.com/pattaya-tha...thbeachroad.htm

Which shows all these Soi's , who could know without being there that you have Soi 1,2 3 here and then Soi 1,2 3 there - here a Soy there a Soy , etc...so it shows the Flamingo above (North??) the Day Night - scale is impossible to say but this doesn't seem too far to walk around a bit - how far would it be say to the water or to Soi Post Office?

I am wondering if the gay area means that there is just a bunch of gay bars and such and bringing a TG back would be an issue or if it is just an OK hotel off the beaten track a bit?

Still awaiting any response form any other hotel at this time.

I could use a travel agent here and just limit the list to those recommended places that are guest OK - the commission on the ticket should be a welcome sight.

1500 baht for car service is about right. Some fancy service want 2500 baht and some private drivers will go for 1000. Both Hawk and i have some numbers for drivers if you wind up in a pinch. My favorite is a guy named "Him" When most people would see 2 lanes he sees 5. Left lane, right lane, lane on the center line between the semi and the car, right shoulder, left shoulder/sidewalk. as for his driving style my girls says ' i sacred to ride with Him :crying . he old man if he die bo bin yang dou, I young I want live" But he has gotten me thru some of the worst bangkok traffic you can imagine. :banghead <laugh

Well I now have replies from Roof Garden Inn for BHT 750/nite for the week plus BHT 1,350 for the car service and Sabai Lodge for BHT 1,850 Deluxe Poolview Room in New Building which opens in October ( I am leery of booking in non-existent hotel rooms with an opening date in the future).

Opinions? Obviously some choice now without worrying about Flamingo.

Rick, Roof Garden Inn is quite nice, nothing too fancy, but clean, well equipped rooms there. Location is in the middle of Pattaya and Jomtien, so you need a baht bus every time you leave your Hotel. No problems, they run 24 hours, but still worth considering.

On the Sabai, I would say that they are quite professional, and probably able to finish the new wing in time. I would not worry much.

Location in North Pattaya can be quite nice, lots of friendly beer bars, a few Gogos, and easy transfer with Baht Bus to everywhere.

If the price difference does not matte rto you, go with Sabai.

At Roof Garde you will safe a lot of money, but you get only what you pay for (a little more I would say in this case, I would have expected them to sell in the 1000 to 1200 Catergory during XMas.)

Besides the 2 Flippers in the Soi 7/8 area, look at the Eastiny Place, Eastiny Inn, Bella Vista, Sunshine and the Pig and Whistle. These places should be less than a 1000 and you are right in the middle of a few hundred bargirls and easy access to Beach Rd and 2nd Rd.

Emil,

Do you happen to have either a web address or or an email address for Bella Vista? I have done several searches both on this site and the internet and have come up with nothing 1luv

Thanks,

Bambu,

Here's the email address that I took off their business card:

eastinyinn@hotmail.com

This place is owned by the same people as the Eastiny Place and Eastiny Inn so make sure you specify which hotel you want to make a reservation.

A great little hotel for the baht although no pool.

The Flamingo has an excellent restaraunt which both Thai girls that I went with seemed to enjoy. The owner is a very helpful fellow. If you going to go to the Hollywood Disco every night then it's a good location.

However IMO the Flamingo is not a good choice for the first time Pattaya visitor due to the location in a somewhat gay area. There is also major construction right across the street (we went last month and it looks like it will be going on forever).
