We're considering Thailand for our next vacation and Pattaya looks like the spot to go. Two grown-ups, no children.

Would like a couple of suggestions as to what we "must do" and what we "must not do" while we're there".

I'm waiting to have access to the members group and will ask the same question there for the grown-up stuff.

Thanks all,

I bring enough clothes for 2 days, and all my toiletries and nessasary stuff, all in a carry on backpack. Then buy all new clothes there for very cheap (good quality, not junk). Soi Buakow tue/fri market.

I buy a suit case there, for all the stuff I bought (suitcases are cheap there).

Walk past all the touts at the airport exit, go outside and go to the booth to get a taxi for 1200 baht!

You say there are two of you...well, do you mean 1 guy 1 woman or 2 guys or 2 women?

If you're with your wife/GF then maybe spend your $ elsewhere than Pattaya, maybe Disneyland or Arizona or watch porno at home.

If you are 2 guys then you must go to Eden Club in Bangers.

In Pattaya, go for a soapie.

Barhop down soi 6 for an afternoon, recommended: King Kong, Red Point, Roxy Club. Allow yourself to be molested and taken upstairs.

If you are 2 girls then go to Boyztown, some of them are hetero and will happily bang your ass off all night for a nominal fee.

Good luck :banghead

I would seriously suggest that after you check in to your hotel , you need to take a walk to soi 6 .This being your first time it will blow your mind.I was going to meet up with a friend there and half way down the street i didnt make it , I met up with him the next day

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome and for the suggestions. I'm not cheap but I'm not in the Trump family either so how much (Canadian) would be needed for a nice 6 week stay in Pattaya? I'm talking necessities and a few extras.

well you can break it down like this on what i spent

2000 baht for your lt night activities

600-1350 for hotel (staying at the residence garden)

500 baht for your short time every day

200 baht for a massage every day

1000 baht on lady drinks

1500-2000 baht for food(some times alot more )

1000 baht on shopping for bullshit

200-500 baht for taxis

I dont drink but I would assume you probably will spend 1500-2000 for drinking

I am sure you can down size or spend more . Just be carefull because you can blow threw money really fast because you will be having the best time of your life

heh

I was going to post a cost breakdown.

But Sumo beat me to it.

and is pretty accurate to the spending i would do as well.

Everything you need can be bought in Thailand.

My first trip, i brought too much stuff.

Second trip ... way too much stuff.

Third trip .... finally got it just right.

All you really need is a few days change of clothes and minimal bathroom articles.

The rest you can buy in Thailand.

You'll be amazed on how cheap things are.

I have heard of the extreme too.

A guy (older guy) arrives at the airport in BKK.

No checkin luggage.

No carryon luggage.

Only arrives with the clothes on his back.

He takes a taxi to Pattaya straight out.

Buys 2 weeks worth of clothes and bathroom articles.

At the end of his 2 weeks, he donates all that he bought to the hotel staff.

And he leaves Thailand with the same clothes he arrived in.

Gets on the plane with no checkin or carryon luggage.

And goes home with a smile on his face.

Suitcase,

First, good job blowing the whistle on that scumbag weasel Harris and welcome.

Hard to say how much money you need, it will depend on your tastes.

What hotel level is acceptable? All levels are available from CDN$8/day to $250/day. A decent hotel with A/C and pool can be found for CDN$20/day.

How much do you drink? Do you have to drink your face off every night or can you moderate your intake and avoid spending CDN$50/day just on beer?

Do you have to eat falang food or are you ok with Thai street food and Thai nosheries?

In the girl department, do you want high-priced "stunners" or nice, friendly, good-looking beer bar girls? A quickie with a stunner can cost CDN$30-35 or $15 with a beer bar or soi 6 girl. For performance the BBG/soi 6 will most likely be better.

What other activities do you enjoy? Fishing? Diving? Golf? etc etc They are all here and you can spend on all of them.

In general, it will be much cheaper than anything in North America or Europe and for "fun value" its hard to beat.

rb is right, don't overplan as its not like anywhere you've been before and you will want to go with the flow and you have 6 weeks to do that.

Good luck mate! :nod

Oh yeah, bring your own raincoats...

Thai boots are small diamenter and thick.

Since your staying 6 weeks, and if its not during high season, You should be able to get a good rate for a room. Anywhere from 7,000 baht a month + electric/water to 12,000.

Emil is right.

If you don't care about "luxury" stay at V&M Terrace on soi Buakhow about 75 yards in from Central Road across from Family Mart.

Guest friendly, good-sized clean rooms, cable, a/c, small pool, nice friendly staff, dual key sign-in lock-box in the lobby, pool table, decent little open air bar with sports on tv.

Rooms at the back are best: quiet, you can see trees and hear birds singing when you open the window in the morning (if you are awake or when you come home).

Walk 5 mins. around the corner to soi 7/8, quick baht bus 5 mins to soi 6 or Big C. Walking Street a bit further away but I'm not a WS guy so no pompem. ATM and full bank service with FX around the corner and fast cheap 24/7 internet at Top Centre just 5 min walk also around the corner.

Price? 6700/month plus electric and water charges so, all in, about 8,000/month. This leaves much more money to be spent where it should be spent.

Works for me.

Sanuk. :D

Getting to Walking St is just as easy from Soi Buakaow. Jump on one of the moving southbound baht buses. When it hits South Pattay Rd it will turn right and then Right again at 2nd Rd. Jump off there and its just a short walk to the entrance of Walking St. About 5 to 10 % of the southbound buses will turn left at 2nd Rd and head toward Jomtien, if you happen to be one one of them stay on until it reaches the VC Hotel and jump off and walk through the Marine Plaza area past the Blues Factory and you will be on Walking St near the Dollhouse Go-Go.

Appreciate all of the "Must Do's". Have you noticed that planning a trip is often as exciting as being on your way?

Could I get some of the "Must not Do's" in Pattaya or in Thailand in general. I'm aware of the basic stuff like the Ten Commandments and NO DRUGS. I'm interested in the mistakes that a tourist might make on his/her first trip.

Like:

What not to see in Pattaya.

Where not to go alone.

Who to tip and who not to. Going rate for general services. (Baht, Can, or US)

Are the police crooked or pretty decent?

Which locals to trust and who not to trust.

Stuff like that.... <laugh

Thanks!

Hey Suitcase,

if you post this in the members section, we will all help you!

Asking about "general services" baht bus, and others could open up a can of worms.

You do have many friends here in the members section, and will be overwhelmed with advice and answers.

suitcase.

there are many hotels and serviced aparetments that will give a very good monthly rate. Even if you want to travel to BKK or phuket if you want to spend most of your time in pattaya, it will probably be worth it to book a place for 6 weeks. A typical deal would be a place that charges 1300 baht anight might give you a monthly rate of 16 -18,000 baht for a month. :P :o
