Hi all,

First Post to this Forum. Im off to Thailand and Pataya for my first time and am planning to book into the Penthouse hotel any reviews there website seems good. But I have heard it might be lousy any ideas guys? What should I be expecting?

I also booked online in advance please dont say this was a mistake, as I have read some other bits saying not to book in advance?

Im a complete noob to Thailand so any other hints and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the reviews written by other boardmembers in the hotel reviews section. (Pattaya Hotels between 1,000 and 2,000) Haven't stayed there myself but have read posts by others and hardly anything postive lately except when some have rented the party room for 1 night.

Can you recommend another Hotel that is cleaner but still lady friendly. If anyone is there between the 8th of March and the 14th give me a shout.

Cheers

The majority of the hotels in Pattaya don't charge a joiner fee unless your staying at the high ends ones that cater to familes or tour groups. Don't be afraid to stay away from Walking St and the Pattayalands as long as your not far from one of the baht bus routes as it will only cost you 10 baht and a few minutes in travel time. (travel time will take you a little longer now because they are doing some roadwork). One of the Sabai's, Bella Villa Prima or the hotels in the Soi 7/8 area would be a good choice.

IMHO, for a Newbie that doesn't want any suprises for the money book at the Residance Garden. You can't go wrong, IMHO. Having to take a Baht Bus for 5 mins to get to walking street is not an issue. That way you can look around to see if you would rather be "in" the action next time or later during the holiday.

Buy the way I'm at the Residance the same week. Look me up there or at FLB.

The Penthouse is a dump and the owner (whose name escapes me at the moment) is a right cunt, even going so far as to cheat two of my customers out of their prize (won in his go-go Kittens) of a free and private use of the pool with a couple of girls from the go-go.

So much so that despite having stayed there many times, they will not be returning.

Loads of better hotels for the same or less money.

I've stayed in the Penthouse hotel twice with no problems except for some overcharging for use of thier mini bar. However I stayed at Tims beer bar last time. The Penthouse hotel seems to be changing for the worst . I checked out their web page and they are charging a joiner fee if you have more than two thai nationals go to the room with you. Kittens from their club are free but outside girls will cost you if you want to party with a group of girls. The owner of this hotel seems to be letting the day to day management fall to his son. Also maybe the troubles he had 2 or 3 years ago are still bothering this hotel and their gogo???

I still visit the gogo but I would have to think twice about booking a room again. The location is great but even that has changed since my first trip in 2000. I miss the girls that used to greet and conjole you into the gogos. I always booked a balcony room so after I was done shagging and couldn't sleep I would sit out on the balcony and watch the gogo girls eating and laughing with each other. Thats the one thing I miss staying at Tims the balcony rooms. Now if another hotel had a balcony and a jacuzzi I'd stay there if the price was right.

No Penthouse for me either.

I didn't stay there but a friend of mine did last year. Cockroaches running all over the place, rooms, dining area, and even in the bar. I saw some roaches in the outside patio dining area and also in the bar as well.

And my friend had a disagreement on billpadding for lady drinks and the owner wouldn't do anything about it. I was present when this happened. He checked out and went to another hotel.

Penthouse or the Go-Go won't have my business again.

Rockin'

I've never stayed at the Penthouse and from what I've read in the reviews I won't. I've always stayed at the RG and barring some major catastrophe I always will. For me it's perfect.

As far as you being a newbie -- take heart. We all have to start somewhere. I suggest two things: read through as much as you can in the forums here; there is a wealth of information available, and some of it is even useful! :D In all seriousness, there are quite a few true veterans of LOS and Pattaya in general among the members, and there probably isn't an experience someone hasn't had (although the quest continues! )

Second suggestion is to get a copy of the Thai/English phrase book published by Lonely Planet. It has a purple cover and is pocket-sized. Learning a few important phrases, as well as reading its sections on the basics of Thai etiquette, will do you a world of good. It's the best book of it's type that I have found.

I've stayed at the Penthouse about 18 months ago, in the Patpong Party Suite, room 518 I believe. Mirrored ceilings, jacuzzi, dance podium, love swing, balcony, dvd and stereo system, for about 2500. It was nice to try out for a 4 day stay, but a bit pricy and I don't think I'd stay there again.

I've stayed at RG three times, but prefer a better location.

I stayed at the Penthouse when I first visited Pattaya, February 2004. I thought it was OK at the time, although my mobile was stolen from the room by one of the staff ( I saw him leaving the room just as I was coming in, he was surprised when he saw me).

When I informed the reception that my mobile was stolen, all she said was why you didn't put it in safe box.

This year, last month, I stayed at the Lek hotel, soi13 and I can tell you it's much better than the Penthouse. I paid 1200 baht for a standard room in the new wing which is half what I paid at the penthouse.

No joiner fee, and they do call you once the girl leaves your room to check if everything is OK, unlike the Penthouse.

I stayed at the Penthouse a couple different times when I started coming to Pattaya. It was totally bizarre and I guess that's what appealed to me. I never saw any roaches or other varmints but that was a few years ago. If your room faces the soi it's gonna be noisy.

As I remember, the owner is a Brit named Dudley. He seemed a nice enough guy and did me a couple favors. If his son is now doing the day-to-day managing that might explain why the hotel has gone south.

My preference these days is the Sabai Lodge on Soi 2. It's a quieter location than the Penthouse but it's very convenient to Big C, the three major soapies, the Soi 2 beer bars; baht buses run past the hotel every few minutes. The hotel is clean, the staff friendly and attentive and they don't hassle you about guests.
