I've been getting different reports on the NEW sales hours. Seems they differ from location to location but are to be standard LOS wide?

Please ring in on the hours of off sale package stores. Seems that Bars are open wide at will??????

I bought booze at the local 7/11 at all hours and was never turned down. Curtailed selling hours seems to be ignored. TIT. :banghead

They are only for the large shops such as Carrefour and Tops etc. I am told that to buy before 11 you must buy more than a certain amount of litres. This qualifies you as a wholesaler. For some guys I know in Patttaya that would be breakfast.

If you're so worried about it, why not just buy some in advance? As for the bars, it seems as though they'll continue to serve you, so long as you continue to drink. They may turn the lights down, but they're still open.

Went to Carrefour Today. They had large signs at the cashiers telling you that sale of Acohol is only allowed from 11-2 and 5-12. I had a Bottle of Brandy and a case of Beer (they have heineken now for 28 Bt a can!). Lady at the teller first moaned, but when I told her that I consider one case of Beer as wholesale, she happily agreed .....

Hi,

10 litres and you can buy at any time. They think they can stop children buying alchohol after school this way and stop drunk drivers in the evenings. And the law just apply to shops not bars.

I had the no service experience at Tesco Lotus in Samui in January at 4 o'clock one afternoon. There was no exception being made. They sold cigarettes in the same mini-store within the big complex so it was wide open and tourists like me walked in, picked up wine and took it to the cash where no exceptions were being made. It was the most stupid, annoying experience of my holiday.

The other problem was the Tesco was in the middle of nowhere so it was about a 5 km detour for the taxi to go into Chaweng to some place which ignored the rule but also had a crappy wine selection before we went back to our hotel on the North of the island.

Reminds me of English pub hours. Just about as smart and effective.

When I first started going to pubs in the early 70's, the Scottish licensing laws were fucking stupid. Pubs could open from 11.00 till 2.00 and then again from 5.00 until 10.00. If you wanted a drink on a Sunday, you had to go to a hotel as pubs were barred from opening.

The laws were gradually relaxed and now in Edinburgh it is just about possible to drink around the clock. Some places close as late as 3.00 or 4.00 in the morning and others open at about 6.00 in the morning (to cater for night shift workers on their way home).

Restricting times when you can buy alcohol won't stop underage drinking. To do that, you have to come down hard on the outlets that knowing sell alcohol to anyone underage - not that hard as all Thais over a certain age have to carry their ID card at all times.

This reminds me, a friend and I were in a pub one night many years ago when some older guy came in and bought a few drinks - and then proceeded to pour part of each drink into a hip flask. Bloody expensive takeaway! :beer We saw him in the same pub a few times and each time he did the same thing. I mean, it's not as though there weren't any off licences nearby where he could have bought some booze for home consumption much cheaper! B)
