ive just been reading about crime gangs in bkk supplying underworld criminals in the uk with fake documents , passports drivers licences and visas

just wounded how big this thing really is in bkk and pattyaya .fake documents . I no you can get degrees an diplomas

what other fake or replica stuff is obtainable across Thailand iam interested in knowing

I suppose anything can be obtained for the right price and if you looked hard enough. You could probably get fake anything in the UK if you looked hard enough.

Anything and everything is easily obtainable in bkk.

This is exactly why whenever the question of age comes up I say be very careful of trusting ID cards.

 

Anyone in LOS can get a fake ID for very little Baht. Punter would never know the difference.

Just saw this article on another board. Hopefully this new card will have enough visible validation on it, (like a hologram), to curb the current situation where I believe a fake ID can be got for thb2000. And they're kicking it off in the South ... now I wonder why?

 

Thai citizens to have Smart ID card in June

 

BANGKOK: -- The ministries of Interior and Information and Communications Technology (ICT) today agreed they would get their acts together in order to issue the pioneering 12 million smart ID cards for Thais by June, to meet the target of 26 million issued by end of 2005.

 

The priority issue will go to Thai citizens in the three southern border provinces, who will be among the first to hold a new generation of ID card.

 

Officials of the two ministries met today to sort out the missed deadline for the issue smart ID card, a new generation of citizen ID equipped with microchip containing personal data. Information and Communications Technology Minister Suwit Khunkitti told reporters that the delay – from January this year – is caused by technical glitches arisen from harmonising citizenship data held by the Interior Ministry.

 

However, the first lot of 12 million cards can now be issued in June, and the meeting today has come up with guidelines to ensure smooth issue of yet another 14 million ID cards to Thais by end of this year.

 

The new generation of ID card contains personal data relating to social security, health insurance and primary census data from the Department of Public Administration. There is some space left in the individual card chip to store additional information from other government agencies.

 

The Cabinet will be informed of the new timeframe at its weekly meeting tomorrow

with the new ID cards it get's a bit better. Well actually the new ID cards are soon to be the old ID cards again as the most recent are the ID cards with integrated Chip (Smartcards). The old cards where just a piece of paper that was just too easy to fake. the newer ones are plastic cards with holographic features and the most recent ones are smart cards.

 

The only thing one has to ask is: Where does the money come from to replace the new cards with even newer ones when 70% of the population still uses the oldest version?
