MSP - BKK? Or maybe ORD, LAX departing?

Recommended Posts

My mistake was waiting a week to book a flight, NWA had the MSP - BKK for $854 a few days ago, today it's $1900 :bj2

.

Got another quote and it's $1350. My plans are leaving June 24th, and coming back July 3rd. I've read that a few board members post about being in the MSP area, so I'd appreciate any help trying to find a reasonable price, or at least get pointed in the right direction so I can buy the ticket ASAP. Thanks!

This late in the game I would jump all over the $1300 price. Next week it will be up to $1600 then $1800 the next week.

6 months before a trip I start looking at the prices. They start at about $1300, then 4 months before the the flight the prices start to move. Usually down about $100 every couple weeks, but it depends on the flight. As an individual flight fills, the price goes back up. The bottom occurs about 8-6 weeks before the flight and that is around $850 in the off season and $1000 in season.

The hotel industry has integrated the airline industry's pricing system. While working for Harrah's casino I held the position of Hotel Revenue Management Coordinator and every day I had to run a program that looked at our hotel rates during the next year for each of 5 tiers of players. Each Tier had a different rate that was used to keep the hotel full while making sure that there would be a room available for the forecasted to be there big players.

You are looking at peak travel time and the $854 deal was a great deal. That being said you should try Travelocity and do a search with flexible dates. Use all of the combos you described MSP_BKK, ORD_BKK and LAX_BKK. You could also add San Fransisco. I did a quick check for the MSP and ORD routes and they do not look cheap. Another thing to try is a travel agency and give them some dates that will work for you. I am thinking though with peak travel starting up and airlines expecting a very busy season you may not have many choices and it will cost you. If you are looking for cheaper flights look into September and beyond. Good Luck.

hate to tell ya but I think your fucked if you want to fly NW 19/27-20/28 msp to bkk which is the shortest flight.

really hard to say with NW, you can look 3or4 times a day and availablity and prices differ.

look at there promotions section and see if they have any cash and miles promotions.

if you are locked into a time frame you may want to try a couple of the agancys in chicago, they have block seats usally about 1k on united or delta or american, msp-ohare-tokyo-bkk r/t.

1- thaifly.com

2- angleair.com

one other option with NW is to look at msp-sin, sometimes they have specials to singapore. (then book tiger air or asiaair from sin-bkk)

if all else fails cathway pasific has an all asia pass which includes r/t from lax to hong kong and hong kong to bkk for 1k, plus your r/t to lax

good luck

Many thanks to those who helped out!!

I got a flight from Thaifly.com for $1200 ( including tax, that 9-11 fee, and nwa victim charge :banghead: <-- animated gif work? ).

From MSP - BKK, June 24th - July 3rd.

A bit late to book it. But where I work, they have the right to cancel my vacation request if I don't provide proof of airfare by a certain date. But it all works out so I get two extra days off, making it nine days in paradise!

I did end up getting the NW 19/27 - 28/20.

I'm not complaining one bit, since it avoids ORD (a good thing!)

I'll be looking for some suggestions on a hotel in PTY soon. (i work my way from soi 7 - 8 towards walking st to avoid the clingers, but trying to find something "nicer" this time around)

Thanks again for all the help.

I live in the MSP area, and make a trip to SEA every year. After trying many different flights, I have the best way is to fly to SFO and take an Asian airline from there. I just got back on June 9, I flew Philippines airlines SFO-MNL-BKK for $817 all in. I spent half my time in PI and the other half in LOS. This price was half what I could get with any other carrier. However, I purchased this 6 months before I left, but with only a $100 cancellation fee, I felt it was worth it. I have flown NWA before, but with a 3 PM departure, I miss a day of work, and with a 6 AM departure from BKK, I miss a morning with a TG. By flying PAL or EVA, the flights leave late nite or early morning from the west coast, so I can take an evening flight out of MSP. I then arrive in Manila or BKK in the morning, not the middle of the night. The flights also departs in the afternoon. The only drawback is that you will have to take the red eye back from the coast, but you get off of the plane and go to work. If you are going to stay in PI, the flight doesn't leave until 10:30 PM, giving you an additional day in paradise.

Let us know how your trip goes.

Only 9 more months.....
