expensive flights

Recommended Posts

Today I spent around 1 hour on the phone trying to sort out a flight for the end of next March returning at the end of April. All the prices where really expensive the cheapest I was quoted was £470 with china airlines. Last year I paid £375 for the same flight I was even quoted £620 by one agent. These Flights where from Manchester. I was wondering if you guys think I am booking to early or if you know any travel agents with flights from Manchester or that the fuel tax has gone up that much. I lad from work paid £385 in June I phoned that agent and he was the one with the £620 price.

I usually don't start looking at prices til about two months out...and then buy about one month out. Distant prices are always ridiculous.

I always fly from Manchester and always book on the net about 6 weeks before flight. The prices do vary and usually I have to check a number of agencies over a number of days/weeks to get a flight at the right price. If your dates are over holidays in either uk or thailand the prices will be more expensive. My cheapest was on Finnair a couple of years ago £370. And £378 with Qatar last May.

But anything under £500 am happy with.Flying with emirates in October £470.Booked with Airline Network.

But now Thomas Cook are showing the same flight at £448 incl. Not a company renowned for competative price in my book. :cry2 :frustrated

upena,

That's not always the case from UK. For instance, one of our main agents (Travelmood/www.flynow.com) has Malaysia Airlines at GBP385 incl all taxes/surcharges for travel LHR-BKK during 1-31 May 2006 (alternatively it is GBP299 to Kuala Lumpur then a short hop for around GBP40 return on Air Asia up to BKK). Outstanding value for what is generally considered to be the best economy product of all the airlines. Likewise, EVA Air's new premium laurel class from LHR during late Sep-late Nov was being sold for less than GBP900 during June; the same seat is now 50% more expensive.

I looki into other cities when i find too many high prices going to bkk. Manila, singapore and hong kong are all cities that have low cost airlines flying into bkk. Ypou burn a little extra time but the saving can be real. I just flew to singapore from sfo for 682. the cost on jetstar for sing to bkk and return was a little over $125 for a total of around $800. Becuase I am premier exec united gave me a free uprgrade to biz calss on the way back. Same dates flying to bkk were over $1300. I stayed in hotel 81 and fraqgrance hotel the first night and the last night before leaving. The only draw back is that the hotels are in the red light district. :ang2 :D

Er THE PRICE OF OIL!

What do you think those silver birds use to get you from a to b!

Try Etihad via Abu Dabi (SP?)

Did there biz class a couple of times and it was great..........looking down at the cheap seats they seemed pretty good.

Stop over only 1hr 15 mins in one of the worlds cheapest duty frees............ then onto BKK

The prices are getting crazy, I have just booked flying in March and coming back in April from Manchester. I paid £699.40 for Eva Air (Evergreen deluxe), the reason i dis that is the cheapest cattle class was £506. I though for the extra £195 the big seat and leg room was worth it.

Booking early doesn't seem to make it cheaper.
