I will be in Pattaya next month, and this time I want to scope out possibilities for a long term move.

One thing I need to check are apartments - I have never seen apartments that are for rent (other than the ones the girls live in, which is not what I am talking about).

My preference will be for a one-bedroom, with a sea view, possibly in Jomtien, but not necessarily so. Could be in Pattaya itself. Budget? Weeeeell, obviously the idea is to pay as little as possible, but I do not want a hole, and I suppose the market will determine what I end up paying. Based on what I have read here, I am thinking 10000-15000 per month is a realistic figure.

So, my question is, can I get some addresses I can go to and look at the apartments? I have read View Talay is one block of apartments, but I dont know where they are or how to get there. I hope someone on the board can provide me with possibilities/directions. By long term I mean at least six months.

Thanks.

Thanks .. unfortunately I do not know what VT1 means.

Besides, I am hoping for board members' opinions ... looking at advertisements does not tell me anything about the quality of life in them.

a couple of things come to mind first the dianna estates on soi buakouw(near the middle of the soi) these start about 9000baht plus utilities, also there is a building (I forget its name)on soi 13 just above the sportsmans bar that allways seems to have vacant rooms of various sizes these start about 10000baht plus utilities.

View Talay 1 & 2 are both on the baht bus route into Pattaya from Jomtien. If you look at this map http://www.bahtbus.com/map/ View Talay 1 & 2 are either side of Thepprasit Road. There are other View Talay buildings, but I'm not entirely certain as to where they are.

On a monthly budget of 10,000/15,000 baht per month for rent, you would be looking at a studio condo. I'm paying 20,000 baht per month for a one-bedroom condo on a low floor on the Pattaya side. On this side, you can't get satellite tv.

I asked the agent for the owner the other day and whether he had any condos on the Jomtien side on a higher floor for rent. He did, but because it was better furnished, on the Jomtien side and so on, the monthly rental for it was 28,000 baht.

My web site: http://www.viewtalaycondos.com has a map (taken from another web site!) to show the location of View Talay 1. My prices on the web site are for up to 1 month. Long term will receive a discount. I'll let other people discuss whether they like View Talay or not. I like it a lot.

Soi 7, thanx to mentioning... Correcting you my condo is in the VT 2 ( View Talay 2 )

http://www.viewtalay2.try.hu/

However my condo is available only in the january period until march.

An other member owns two nice condo in VT 1, which ones are - as I know - are still available.

http://www.viewtalaycondos.com/

There are some other websites offering condos, but they are mostly receiving short term visitors with higher prices.

A good idea too, to read the offers on the board near the reception.

( VT1 on the other side of the Thepprasit road )

Long term rental in View Talay 2 (the newer one) can be had for Bt10-12k plus utilities for a studio and from Bt14-16k for a one bed. Sure you can pay more but why ?

I live on the top floor of View Talay 2 and know rentals in this range. Agents are fuckwits and want loads of commission. Pattaya Properties and Fair View or whatever are the worst, valuing a Bt10k condo for Bt18k or similar.

I may be able to put you in touch with someone if you need for VT2. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Just to follow up on what Torrenova said, I noticed a studio appartment for rent in View Talay 2A on the 5th floor for rent at 25,000 baht per month. Now, I'm a floor lower and am paying 20,000 baht per month for a one-bedroom condo.

One question though. If you're not using an estate agent, who do you pay the rent to and who do you contact if there are any problems? The switch that controls the lights in the bedroom blew a few weeks ago and it was a simple call to the estate agent to arrange for it to be fixed.

Thanks everyone. I take it that View Talay is a condo-style buildng (in US terms) with individual owners.

Torrenova, for some reason I am unable to PM - I guess I have to find out what is going on. (If you know the reason pls let me know - I think I have used the feature before.)

Perhaps you can send a message - I will try to reply to that.

Well, you pay the rent directly to the owner if you don't use an agent. using an agent, in thailand just like in any other country that i know, makes things more expensive. it might be easier to arrange some things through an agent, but is it worth the added price, probably in most cases the answer would be "No". BUt that's just my opinion.

cheers

Just thinkin, I live on the other side of Sukinvit and the cost is really much less. Of coarse most of us like a seaview, but I have setteled for a garden and two bedrooms of a regular house for about half that you would pay close to the beach. Also tall buildings scare me, I come from California. But really I think I just like to having earth under my feet. I also have transportation, like all Californians, so to boogie on down to the beach is no big deal, and I do like the beach, but then again I always run the risk of a motorbike accident. Bad thing and the real thing here, not like hollywood.

I guess what I am trying to say is it is up to you (where did I hear that before) look around, ask around, look around, this board is a very good place for you to find out many things. Stick around kid we'll show you the ropes. Welcome, I am drunk now got to get some sleeop ansodgrjkgh and stuff. later ffokdfjrt sorry

I spend my whole life in the box or it seems that way

Hi soi 7 a friend of mine(Norman de Mesquite) who is a hockey writer was talking to Gordie one day (a long time ago when they were both younger) and gordie told him a story about the best young rookie that he ever saw in the NHL well this kid was the best thing on skates but unfortunately he used his first big paycheck to buy himself an Indian (motorbike)and after only 3 weeks in the NHL he had a horrific accident where he lost a lot of bone in his arm and was very near death but he did survive and made a very good recovery from what was an horrific injury so after about 3 years he made it back into hockey but with his injury holding him back somwhat he only made the grade in the international league but Gordie said that it was a happy return as he went on to lead the league in short handed goals.

Gordie swears that this is true and we all know that Gordie has never spoken an untruth LOL
