Any ideas, other then teaching english, on job/business opportunities in Pattaya?

Ideal would be an expate position with an automotive company. Engineering, product development, technology development, of automotive systems. Experienced in automotive sensors, switches and electronics. Teach, train and manage. Customer presentations. and alot more...

Can also do most anything from building computers to household plumbing.

I have been searching for opportunities from sites like monster.com but most do not include much on Thailand. Thought it may be better to ask people that live there. Someone may have inside information on an automotive company that is looking for a highly experienced individual.

However, I am open to all suggestions. Even finding reliable business partners and starting a business there.

Having a Degree helps a lot. Some things like teaching and other professional jobs require a degree just to get the work permit.

 

Remember too that having a business visa does not give you the right to paid work in Thailand. You still ahve to apply fior the work permit ... and that is not an easy process.

 

Once you have your blue book (the work permit) you must have it with you at all times when working ... had the immigration guys stop by my office on Friday (with tw o boys in Brown) just to check :-). No permit, and you are in a heap of shit.

 

I also know of two writers here, employed by US/European companies. They can do their work anywhere in the world. They don't work here, just live with their Thai wives. Their money is paid into off-shore banks and they pull down by ATM. Not legal but the authorities turn a blind eye to that one (you are bringing in foreign investment).

 

Technical authoring is another job done mainly by Falangs - native English speakers do something that few Thais can do, write English in an English way. Difficult to explain but read something that a Thai degree write has done and you know a non-English speaker did it.

 

But teaching in schools is still the biggest opportunity for falangs. But you should have a degree, preferably not one bought in Babgkok. Life degrees are generally acceptable if issued from a reputable university.

Teaching English is a great way to get your foot in the door. Once your local and get to know your way around, job opportunities open up. One thing you will have to do is learn polite Thai and not the BG version.

The oilfield is going crazy here and there are jobs for UK Graduate Geologists, living in Pattaya and working all over SEA

Bet there are no jobs for oil petroleum drivers, pays well in the uk cant find any jobs in thailand or i would be there.

Driving is not exactly a skill that only falangs can do.

Truck drivers in LOS have a hard time making ends meet They seem to be untrained and unvalued so even if there was a job on offer you would not get enough for your rent never mind to live on.

Both GM and Ford have plants here in Thailand. Maybe you might do an inquiry in the States about coming here to work. It would sure make it easier for you if they did the work permits, etc. for you!
