Used Mr Toom's service last week for two ways airport and Pattaya. Drivers were very punctual, both cars were about ten years old. Safe drive from airport to Pattaya (it took 2 hours due to traffice jam). However, on return trip to airport (it took 1.5 hr no jam at all), on a few occassions the driver talked on the hand phone while driving.

On my back to the airport (about 1 PM), there was massive jam on the opposite direction, there were many trucks and heavy vehicles, did not know what cause the jam. I assume that we should avoid travelling during this time of the day.

I used Mr Tooms service on the 5th March going to the airport from Bangkok. I had a lady driver in a fairly new car. I thought great she should be a careful driver being a woman. How wrong I was, she spent most of the journey going up the hard shoulder of the motorway which basically had an edge with a drop. As we flew past many buses and heavy goods vehicles I was suprised we ended up at the airport in one piece. The drive from Bangkok airport to Pattaya was fine even though the guy was on the phone for most of the journey.

I for one had a pretty bad experience from the service.

I arrived on 16/3 at 14:15 into the new Bangkok airport. After clearing customs I saw a young driver holding a card with my name (with a minor misspelling). I followed him upstairs the escalators and after the escalators a policeman intercepted us. He started talking to the driver. Then he asked how much I was supposed to pay the driver for the transportation and then he asked me for my passport (from which he copied my details). Then he told me that this is an illegal taxi and I should go down two floors and take a cab.

If I had any indication that using the services of Mr. toom might cause me such an interaction with the police I would have certainly not used such a service. I believe that a service provider should provide full disclosure and as things stand I will not book the transportation to the airport on my way back using his services.

Hi Mark,I have read your other thread with interest ,on this dodgy experience of yours, and sympathise with you as it can be an upsetting welcome to the LOScams! I have used Toom many times and never had a problem with his service whatsoever!

I urge you to rephrase your thread as the "Bad service" in effect was in no way the fault of Toom, this could have happened with ANY of the so called "Taxi" services, and to blame Toom is grossly unfair. The blame lies at the feet of the Thai authorities for allowing the mafia taxi scum to operate these scams unchecked.

:D <grin <huh

Mark,

Sorry to hear you had to go through the hassles at the airport. I have used Toom many times and never had a problem with his drivers. Always punctual and drive safely (well for Thailand). Just keep Toom's phone number handy, in case there is a mix up!

I think Stevoman is right, the taxi mafia are having a go at taxi services that do pick ups. On my way to the airport from Pattaya a few days ago, the driver, who I have driven with before asked for payment as we were approaching the airport. Never happened before, he said it was because of the taxi mafia, who would probably ask for money if I handed it to him when I got out of the car.

Wasn't a limo monopoly given to one in Thaksin's family? Somebody said that taxis must pay 50 baht for that guy. As far as I know it's still allowed to order a limo pickup from Mr Toom or any other service as long as you not make the arrangement on the airport. Or?

Hi,

From everything I have read it seems that whenever Mr. toom provides transportation, the service is good.

However, and mind you that this is probably my expectation based on my culture, I would have expected him to disclose the fact that such a problem may occur. I would have also expected him to contact me after the mishap in the airport.

I do not blame him for the actions of the police (Nor do I really care what are their motivations and if they are corrupted or not). I blame him only for not advising me ahead of time that such a thing may happen, and for not expressing regret that such a mishap has happened afterwards.

I do not think I should rephrase my phrase ``pretty bad experience from the service'' as I consider part of the ordering process and the follow through process part of any good service (again expectations from my culture).

Should he have used his pyschic powers to inform you of something that will happen to you in the future? :D :D and you consider things out of his contol as a bad experience from the service he provides. Very strange.

No, I do not expect anybody to have pyschic powers, but I doubt that this is the first time it happens. I did not expect him to advise me that it would happen, just that it may happen.

As I explained before, I consider the ordering and follow through to be well within his control.

Well of all the people who have used his service you are the first one to mention this happening so I guess maybe it is the first time it has happened. Was his man there to pick you up? Yes. Did he take you to where you wanted to go? If he did then that is the service unless in your country they give you extras. I can assure you in the rest of the world that is how it works. Car comes picks you up takes you where you want to go. end of service. :D :D

Used Tooms Taxis today,

Pick up went without a hitch. the driver was in exactly the right place with my name on the sign (nearly my name) got to the car park and was a little disappointed at the rust bucket i was to be travelling in, but not really a problem as the built in Kareoki system provided me with a few laughs.

What did piss me off was the 3 hour drive from the new airport to pattaya as the driver announced the traffic was really bad on highway 7 due to construction work and he was taking sukemvit road all the way from bangkok.

Any locals no if this traffic problem is likely to be true at the moment or was this driver taking the piss and trying to earn more money by not paying the tolls.

I have used toom many times in the past and have always been happy with the service, but never had this driver before!

They are doing work on the motorway towards Pattaya so I guess he could be telling the truth although he could also want to save paying the tolls. <grin

I agree that if ``Car comes picks you up takes you where you want to go. end of service. :D :banghead ''. However, when things go wrong (even because of some divine intervention), especially when considering tourist oriented service that expects repeating customer, I would personally expect a follow through for such cases.

Well I think you will find you will not get it in Thailand. :allright
