I am considering the Nova Park (not the Nova Lodge) hotel for our next visit. When I ran a search I found some saying that that it was too far removed from 2nd road for easy transportation to get around and others who said it is an easy walk to 2nd road. The map that they show is not to scale and it is impossible to tell how far it is. Can anyone advise me how easy or difficult it would be to get around staying at this hotel. Any other information about this hotel would also be appreciated. :beer

Its not far to walk but not a trip you should make on foot in the dark. Plenty of bhat buses though and just accept thats the way to get where you want to go. A great place my wife and \i have stayed there 2wice and will arrive for another month on Saturday

Catbear:

It is a decent walk (maybe 1/8 - 1/4 mile) to 2nd Road, but when I stayed there I only walked once or twice in two weeks. As you can see from the map below for Jamesons (attached to hotel), it's about same as walking down Soi 7 or 8).

I had a scooter for the day. At night, if I was going out to drink, I would use the motobike taxis, as there are usually a few outside the entrance. I did see occasional baht buses pass by as well and I think we jumped on these once or twice. If you are nervous using motobike taxi, you could always pay them 20 baht or so just for the 1/4 mile and then grab a baht bus on 2nd Road.

The one-bedrooms aren't as new as places like the Bella Villa Prima, but ours was in fair to good condition. DVD/VCR player came with room also and kitchen. Good TVs is both living room and bedroom.

Pool is great and Jamesons next door is great as well and will bring pints/food right to the pool.

I like being a bit off the beaten track now, but stayed on Soi 8 for many years as well. I would stay there again, but next trip will likely be up by the Royal Cliff area.

Hope that helps answer your questions.

In my opinion it is not so much the length of walk that is a bother, it is the relatively poor conditions for walking. No sidewalks and a fair amount of traffic off and on. I have made the walk a few times during the day and still felt a constant need to be more aware of my surroundings than usual. Might be a bit unsafe during darkness, especially if a little high.

Lastly, for those TGs that are already put off by a short walk, I think they would more than likely outright refuse this particular walk.

Good point, that road is dark and winding. I only walked it a few times at night, but for no other reason than coincedence. I guess you have to be OK with motorbike taxis or a few extra baht on the way back for a contracted baht bus. Wasn't really a problem with me.

  • 3 months later...

Another problem in that area is dogs.Swaying home on a couple of occasions recently i found myself surrounded by a pack of at least twenty barking snarling canines and was only rescued by the security man at the gate. These animals get very territorial in the wee hours.

I'm stuck in a long term lease with Nova Park but I highly recommend you DO NOT STAY THERE!

The owners and staff are very welcoming on day 1 when they show you around but that smile is soon gone and replaced by ignorance and/or a frown.

The Israeli owner Rony Fineman couldn't give a rat's ass about anyone's concerns. He's asked me to contact when I had concerns and then told me I "have too much time on my hands." The hotel caters to Israelis mostly. As a Jew myself, I thought I might feel "at home" here but....ah, I won't say what I'm thinking on that topic.

The rooms are showing their age and being so close to that crazy soi A.R, it's just impossible to find peace. Most guests spend more than 3000+ baht each month on electric because the rooms are so hot.

The noise from the bars/traffic on 3rd road force one to keep your windows shut all the time. The large space near the hotel is also used for concerts. The Thais love high decibels.

They also advertise wireless internet in the rooms. I'm no techie but the service is so slow, it's no better than dial-up. My friends experience this too on other floors.

Lastly, the pool is nice except they have a severe flying insect problem which makes the stay uncomfortable. Until about 4pm, there is no shelter from the sun either. Hotel residents bring in so many Thai family guests who let their kids run wild. I often sit in the jacuzzi and there's always some little shits that jump in and out of the jacuzzi splashing everyone in the eyes. It's fucking annoying.

I told Rony I will tell everyone what a shit hotel his place is if he doesn't clean up his act. Keeping my promise.

I like the Nova but you do make some valid points. (See reviews)

I was amused to read that the owner is Israeli, my last stay there I was greatly disturbed by Arab neighbours (anybody who has been to the Arab world will know what I mean)....perhaps I could have had them 'sorted out'. :allright

I always booked a monthly deal including electric so AC was never off.

Yes dog packs around there are a nuisance, the dog catchers came around once but they breed pretty quick.

I was also disturbed by open air concerts, I think one was on the adjacent land for 2 out of the 4 weeks when I last stayed there. Even now, as I stay in a different place, an open air concert has been annoying me, it has a scheduled stay of 2 weeks......it is even nearer to Nova park than my current room. Thump-thump-bang-bang of bass until 1 or 2am gets tired after a week! I wonder the hotels in this area don't formally complain. The shape of the Nova Park seems to focus 3rd rd noise into it's bedrooms.

And never, never consider the Nova lodge!

I would not consider stayin here, mainly because of location and comming back after a few drinks with friends at Jamiesons, it was pitch black as well as a load of barking dogs.

I took a motorbike taxi through to Soi 8 next time.

Wow guys, I really appreciate these current comments. I leave for Pattaya in 2 days. The past 3 years I have only stayed at Sandy Springs and thought I would try a change in scenery. Made reservations for 1 week each in Bella Villa Prima, Nova Park & Whitehouse Condohotel. This simplifies things tremendously. I will cancel my reservation with Nova Park right after posting this.

This is a great feature of this forum. Thanks again.

I recently sent an email to the owner of Nova Park telling him that a few residents and I were disatisfied. I sent him a list of names of my family and friends who had been considering Nova as a long stay residence.

I was told "we're 90% full all the time, so you and your friends can check out anytime" or something very un-proactive.

As we Jews say: "what a shmuck!"

With their permission, I sent him the names of current dissatisfied guests (accouting for about 9 of the 90 rooms) and in addition, I sent him the names of friends/family who had verifiable reservations at Nova who were now cancelling them.

Do what you want with your money but I don't recommend Nova Park.

Piss poor attitude that will likely reduce that 90% occupancy figure.

I was always impressed with the lady who manages the place, she had good attitude and kept herself busy.

I am now trying to find an alternate 'apartment style hotel' as I like the extra space and facilties over a hotel room. I have just had enough of the open air music which is present every night around here. (yes I got ear-plugs!).

You might consider The Inn of The Golden Crab, Soi 13.

I have heard that they rip you off for the elcctric charges (price per unit). Wouldn't stay there anyway after seeing the TV interview with the little twat that runs the place. I think overpriced and better value elsewhere even before the electric rip off.
