I was about to book China Airlines (and still might) but have just found a Malaysian offer some £65 cheaper. I'd like to decide over the weekend - latest.

Would appreciate any comment on the airline. My most important criterion for this trip is flexibility/charges for a change of return date.

Thanks

Alright Carpediem,i've flown malaysian albeit quite a few years ago.Don't know where you're flying out of but One thing you've got to take into consideration is that it will fly to KL first then you change plane and double back on yourself to BKK.This also applies to other airlines like singapore.I fly out of Manchester and have also flown with China, which i also find a good airline,Short hop to Amsterdam then long haul to Bangers too.It arrives at a good time in Bkk(early morning).Don't know where you're flying out and when you're flying but if it's from the Uk you might want to consider Etihad. It's just started flying out of Manchester and if you surf the websites you can get a return for between £370 and £400.Change ticket on my flight(Etihad) is £50,i'm flying in June.Be careful with so called cheaper' deals because some of them won't let you change the return date.Always ask before you book. hi druid

thanks for the response. i'm flying from paris, and i intend to leave on the 30th for a stay of 3-4 months. i knew about the competitiveness of etihad, but unfortunately it doesn't yet serve paris. is the etihad price valid for a stay in excess of 3 months? malaysian was available to me at around £505. (and the etihad rates you mention may apply only to manchester, not heathrow. anyway i'll look into their prices tonight.)

the short/long combination of sectors is roughly the same isn't it - though in reverse order?

Hi Carpediem,My ticket on Etihad from Manchester is only valid for 2 months.I know Etihad has competitive prices out of London.Another board member flew out of Gatwick on them(April) but flies back into Heathrow(for some strange reason).Anyway this doesn't help you too much if the tickets are only valid for 2 months. What about Air France if you're flying out of Charles De Galle? Hi Carpediem,i just done a quick search on London to Bkk flights dep Apr 30th and it looks like you will be paying roughly around £100 more for a 4 month ticket as regards to a 3 month (90 day ticket). On the 3 month tickets the search came up with the following. All prices inclusive of Taxes.

Expedia.com

Heathrow - BKK EVA £411

'' '' QATAR £424 No C/C charges with Expedia

Airline network(airnet.com)

Heathrow-BKK EVA £433 C/C charges 2%

E-bookers.co.uk

Heathrow-BKK-EVA £413 C/C charges 2%

Thomascook.co.uk

Heathrow -BKK EVA £412

'' '' ETIHAD £455 C/C charges 2%

So if you are going for more than 90 days it looks like Malaysian@£505 is a good deal. Druid

China airlines F/F programme is as far i am aware affiliated to no other airlines.I flew with them a few times and accumulated enough for an upgrade(before my miles were due to expire).Still worth joining cos it costs nothing. My mates took the piss out of me for being in all these F/F programmes but at the end of the day i've had a(free) flight on turkish Man -Bkk which cost me £78 Taxes(last June)through their miles and miles programme, then in oct 05 i had enough miles on star alliance for a flight from BKK- Manila(cost £28 taxes).I've also had numerous upgrades on other flights as well as use of airport lounges. So joining up on these F/F schemes is the way to go IMO.
