OK,

I've flown EVA's 777 now for the last 4 flights from TPE to BKK. I've sat in all 3 classes.

Premium Economy

Elite Class

Premium Laurel Class

IMHO the seats are horrible in both Elite and Economy. The Elite class seat doesn't even measure up to the Deluxe Class aboard their 747s. To me it isn't even as wide as the deluxe seat, and pitch ratio for reclining is the same as economy. Ever since ergonomic seats has been introduced, I've had backaches. I plan on flying the 747s as much as I can in the future. I guess when EVA retires the 747s, I'll have to try another airline.

What are your thoughts?

Endorse that "sort of !", although I have never ventured into cattle class, the new Elite is crap. I was not totally at ease in the Premium Laurel either, finding that the angle on the "flat" bed mode caused me to slide down (apparently a common problem with all so called "flat bed seats" that do not lie horizontal), and feel like I was trying to sleep standing up .

I agree with growler, also prices for Elite from the UK have risen tremendously my last trip 1/1/06 - 1/4/06 the ticket cost 606 GBP inc taxes from ourstravel now it is 635 + taxes. Not as bad as I thought I've just checked the website. They had obviously made a mistake 'cos last week it said 785 + taxes which is the "Shoulder Season" price on the web page now.

Those taxes, which includes all the fuel surcharge rips certainly add up though. I ended up paying £823 with Ours in February (Ex-Manchester) for a return Elite ticket (Cheapest dates). That was a rise of £150 from the same package a year earlier. I had FF upgrades to Premium Laurel both ways so went ahead with booking, but no more! :clueless

I've tried both Elite and Premium Laurel and would have to agree with many of the comments made.

Elite definitely isn't up to the Old Evergreen Deluxe standard. The seats are smaller and I don't think they recline as far. OK, the entertainment system's better, but I'd rather have a more comfortable seat. Besides, if the entertainment system's top of your list, the one in Economy's just as good.

Premium Laurel, on the other hand, suited me just fine. I agree about the seat angle in "flat" mode but it didn't bother me overmuch. My only real gripe was the food. Crap served on bone china is still crap.

Add another vote to the new 777 Elite seats are way worse than the Evergreen Deluxe seats in the 747. The entertainment is better but nothing beats a cofortable seat for a 20+hour trip. I hope their 747 hold on for a while longer - after that I may have to switch Airlines - maybe Thai out of New York <huh

FBF,

Keep an eye of the "Pearl" class prices offered by Etihad from MAN. Their flatbed seats are 180 degrees recliners rather than the 170 offered by some of the other carriers and are better than a lot of airlines 1st class seats.

I flew on a 777-300ER from BKK to Taipei last week in Elite Class and found the seats quite comfortable; the plane was obviously next-to-new and I really enjoyed the interactive entertainment system. Then it was back to Evergreen Deluxe in the 747 for the trans-Pacific flight, and it was great...after all the years I have spent in steerage, this was a real treat. I hope to book this flight again next trip, it's a good value.

While I would agree that the Evergreen Deluxe on the 747 is far better then the new Elite, the Elite is still better then economy, at least in my opinion.

I don't know what other airline offers anything in between economy and business class from Los Angeles to BKK and, as a retiree, I just can't afford business class. I'm sure there must be some so if you guys know of any, please advise.

I am quite happy with the 777 Premium Laural seats, better than the 747 Biz class. But I am somewhat nervous about crossing the Pacific in a smaller seat than ED.

Starting in summer of '07 EVA will be replacing all 747 interiors. Expect the same seats as the 777, though maybe (hopefully) they will keep EE cabin in the nose with the same seating configuration (and 27D or G is MY seat :chogdee2 )

Disappointing without doubt re new elite and economy seats on the 777.

Biggest gripe for me is that on recline the "arse" section of the seat eases forward walloping your knees against the seat in front if youre reasonable tall.

Seats are same pitch as before (and are wider in economy) they just dont feel it !!
