Hi I am planning to visit pattaya for 3 nights along with my wife in September. I need some info on the Dusit. I have earlier been to pattaya and have stayed in the Amari but I think there is some construction going on there.

Hi I am planning to visit pattaya for 3 nights along with my wife in September. I need some info on the Dusit. I have earlier been to pattaya and have stayed in the Amari but I think there is some construction going on there.

It is an excellent hotel with it's own beach area.

I like the fact that I can easily jump on a baht bus and take a ride along beach road, getting to Walking Street, the fun area, where your wife would enjoy a seafood meal over the sea. (You may or may not wish to join her.. :D )

Coming back you may need to tell a baht bus driver to go straight on at Soi 2....they like to cut off the big corner.

Two swimming pools.

Excellent service and quality.

Very good review but not girlfriendly  Dusit Resort

Well the guy said he was going with his wife.....

Going back some years the Dusit had a policy similar to USA 'gays in the military'...don't say anything and ignore it. Has it changed to a strict NO now?

I think it's a good hotel, but not great given the price. Also, probably the very last place I'd ever go on vacation with my wife is Pattaya. Somehow, they just don't understand when you say, "I just want to go say hi to some old friends who work in Dollhouse." If I were you, I'd take a right on the road from BKK and head to Hua Hin instead. For the same more or less (in fact, much less) you can stay at Anatara -- fantastic Thai style resort that is sure to wow the socks off the missus.

Thanks for your advice gauprau. We are planning to go and stay in phuket after pattaya for a week. Hua hin looks nice but then its going to be resort style holiday. I love music and love to drink so I guess pattaya is the place for some sun and excitement

Any more comments on Dusit?

Breakfast can be done cheap in the bakery. They have an OK sandwich selection for around 80-100 Baht.

Best hotel in town, on the Baht bus route.

I have never experienced a Baht bus driver going down soi 2.

Once every now and then you get one who turns right up central road instead of continuing North.

There are some bahtbuses driving on Soi 2. Central Pattaya Rd is Pattaya Klang, do you mean North Pattaya Rd?

No, Klang/Central.

I got the feeling that they never turn down Soi 2 unless they are empty.

Those times the bus head up Klang/Central it even surprised the Thais.

Out of hundreds of trips back to Dusit I would guess it has happend maybe 10 times.

From Dusit to South it only happend one time that the driver turned left up central road from the beach road.

I would not stay at the Dusit. I would prefer to stay at the Sheraton as the first choice and the Marriott as the second choice.

If you really like the comforts and the luxury these two would provide that for your wife and yourself....The Marriott is centrally located with the beach right in front of it......

The Sheraton does not have a beach but the surrounding garden and pool area is really nice.....

The Dusit tends to be snobby that I hate the lack of courtesy and graciousness I enjoy in Asian hotel staff.....Just my take on the Dusit...

On the occassions I go to Pattaya with my wife and family I always stay at the Dusit. The two pools are excellent, and yes, it is right on the beach.

I found the staff to be very attentive and friendly but not intrusive as sometimes you experience at other hotels. It is very true that food and drink are very expensive in the bar and restaurants, but the answer is to eat out.

The small bakery inside the enormous lobby is excellent for hughe rolls, biscuits and hand made chocolates, all very cheap.

The dusit takes some beating and is an ideal spot to take the wife as it is a decent distance away from the action.

The landmark rooms are fantastic, suite based, and are located on the 8th floor, but are very expensive. Garden view rooms are the cheapest and are exactly the same size and interior as the sea view rooms, which are more expensive.

On the negative side apart from the price of the food and drinks, is that the lighting in the rooms could be a little better.

The Gym, sauna, and health Spa are excellent.

I have also stayed across the road at the Amari, but to be honest, the dusit far excells the Amari.

PM me if you want any other details.

Have to agree with Rascal. Have stayed at the Dusit several times over the years and like it as a base to tour from. Like the others mention the pools are great. The rooms much better than the Marriot (which cannot be beaten for location)..the Sheraton for me...is just too awkward to get too and from. The Dusit has recently re-opened the Chinese restaurant (Peak) and is renovating other rooms...or they were last April. The noise....very distant.....was only after 9am and finished in the afternoon. I did stay in the room one day (ill) and the noise wasnt a problem, but I suppose it depends where your room is.

Booked as a package from the UK the Dusit is fairly cheap and excellent if you are taking your partner. I like you, dont fancy just a resort based holiday, so thinks it will be Pattaya for ever more.

As a side note...take care if you walk back from Soi 2 to the hotel (Big C side) late in an evening. Time before last someone on a motorbike tried to snatch the wifes handbag at about 2am. Ensure you walk on the roadside and dont flash the bling. Or better still get a Baht Bus.

The back gate to the hotel closes at about 9am so you need to get the baht bus to drop you off at the Dolphin roundabout.

Have a great time with your wife. :beer

Thank you very much all for your replies. What i will try to do is we go out partying at night then i might take a baht bus str8 to the hotel then to walk it out or anything else. I have stayed at amari before but that was alone. but this time being with the wife I have to stay away from the nasty places.
