Re Areca, have you tried an agency like these http://r24.org/pattayapages.com/pattaya/areca http://www.asiarooms.com/thailand/pattaya/areca_lodge.html ?

They some times have a certain amount of rooms on full time reservation, so that you can some time s get a room even when the hotel say it is full. You will have to pay 100% of cost in advance, but it is slightly cheaper than going straight to the hotel.

I have twice used the asiarooms web page with no problems.

Same thing happened to me...could only book a standard room. I asked about a deluxe room at the reception counter and they moved me to a deluxe room after someone cancelled. Not much difference in the rooms anyway.

I used sawasdee.com to book the areca when the hotel told me they were fully booked, and it was 100 baht per night cheaper. The only difference between standard and deluxe as far as i am aware is that deluxe has tea/coffee facilities and it has an in-room safe whereas standard you have to use safety box in special room behind reception.

The one thing that i always look for is the inroom safe.

Does anyone know a a good hotel other then the Areca Lodge that has an inroomsafe?

Rates between 1000 and 1500 bath en it would be nice when it is on 2nd road.

A pool would be nice too

If you look at the top of the page relating to hotels/accommodation you'll see that MM has organised a deal at the LK Metropole Hotel (essentially opposite Areca Lodge) Better quality rooms but slightly dearer, but in a pefect location. Have a look and get booked as I know its becoming more popular with boardies and the word is spreading fast!
