Tourist Visa question

Recommended Posts

I had a Visa question that I hoped someone might have the answer to. I was planning on buying my airline tickets from US to LoS with the ultimate travel dates of November 1st until March 15th and then apply for my tourist Visa here in the US after I received my itenerary.

My question is if there is any difficulty in buying airline tickets to other countries while I was in Thailand? (i.e. philippines) Does that mess up the original Tourist Visa status?

If my first Tourist Visa was at 50th day and I then travelled to Philippines for 20 days. Have I exceeded my 60 day tourist Visa in LoS? Or does it start and stop when I come and go?

Thanks in advance

Brian

I was more concerned on how it would affect my 2 stamp re-entry tourist visa. I was planning on going to the PHilippines early in the trip and would have a number of months left in LoS after. I'm trying to avoid the 30 day runs.

If you have a double entry tourist visa, you should be fine. When you leave, your first visa will expire and the 60 day clock is closed.

When you return, they will stamp you in again for your 2nd 60 day visa, and you can either extend this 30 days for 1900 Baht, and/or do 3 border runs for 30 day visas, IMHO, of course.

Get a one year multiple entry non immigrant "O" visa and all problems solved. 90 days each time.

Agreed - this would avoid any hassles.

You have a visa that is valid 6 months from date of issue, that allows you 2 entries, each up to a max of 60 days stay.....(can get a 30 day extension).

You come in once, you get 60 days allowance, but if you leave, even if only a day later, that is done with. Next entry to Thailand would be your second and then that visa is effectively done with.

Flights to anywhere can easily be bought in Thailand.

You can enter Thailand without a visa (30 day permission to stay, shall we call it), you can stay a max of 90 days in any 6 months with this method.

I went to the Thai Consulate in Chicago today and found some interesting information. From reading the above listed post this was previously said.

If you can't get a Non-Immigrant then the next choice is a 3 entry tourist visa. That will allow you to stay for up to 9 months. Failing that a double entry (6 months) or a single entry (90 days).

Note: With the tourist visas regardless of how many entries on it you will get 60 days on arrival, which can be extended at immigration for another 30 days on payment of the 1900 baht fee. You must then leave the country but if you have a 2 or 3 entry you can return immediatly and repeat the process, for as many times as you have entries.

Once you have used up all your entries you can either get a new visa at an embassy outside Thailand and start again, or start the process of visa runs with no visa in which case the 3 stamp rule will start to apply from your first entry into Thailand without a visa.

I don't think that is accurate. I had tickets in hand for a 5 month stay in Thailand. I went to the consulate office with the idea of getting a 3 entry tourist visa. I was DENIED. I was told that since I was only entering the country one time I could only get one Visa and not 2 or 3.

My plans have been to enter Thailand and stay 2 weeks, fly to Philippines for a month, then fly back to thailand for 3 months. The Thai consulate told me that if I had my ticket from bangkok to manila with me when I first arrived in Bangkok that I could request the standard no visa 30 day entry (since I was staying less then 30 days proved by ticket) and that when I returned to Thailand I could then use the single entry 60 day Tourist Visa.

How do you get a 2 or 3 entry Tourist Visa if you only have tickets for Thailand??

Since I don't know how long I will be in Philippines I can not buy the round trip ticket now. I guess the only way to guarantee no problems would be if I could get a tourist visa from the thai consulate in the Philippines (which I don't know if I can get). I would hate to run out of time with 2 months left on my stay.

This crap makes my head hurt.

Different Thai consulates issue different types of visas. You might go to one and they will say No and go to another one and they will say yes, sorry have not got a list for you of which is which. You could just try and get a visa in the Philippines I do not think you will have a problem getting one at all. Good Luck.

I'd apply at the Honorary Consulate in Houston. Last I heard they were issuing double entry tourist visas and are generally very user friendly.

I got a double entry tourist visa (60 days in Thailand/exit/60 days in Thailand) this month in Denver. I was not asked anything about my airline tickets. The only requirements were: a filled out visa form, one 2x2 photo, my passport and $50. It took about five minutes.
