Recommended Posts

thats not bad I hope its stays around the 69 mark as I use ATM all thetime. :D

I also rang Nationwide today re using a flex card abroad and was told no problem and they do not block foreign usage and no need to advise them the cards will be used abroad :clap1

uk pound sterling now at 66.2 bht , good news after the recent plummet of pound against baht, would be nice to see 70bht to the pound again soon!

No it has not. The Baht has been steady for over a week at around 69.?. This is a vaguery in the way the exchange rates are being shown abroad and here.

If you want to get your Baht from a Travel Agent 'before you go' - 66 to the £ if youre lucky!

thats odd, xe.com/ucc is showing the baht at 66 to the pound but that tool shows nationwide will give 69 to the pound,

but with the euro, both xe and that tool both show 1.49 euros to the pound

something is wrong

That is what I said. It has been wrong for about 10 days now but in LOS it gets right around 12am to 6pm before going wrong again later and weekends.

I have always taken travellers cheques to LOS. However, I do have a Flexaccount and am tempted to use my card to take money from ATMs next visit. So I have a number of questions if a kind boardie would be so kind:

(a) Do you punch in the amount you want in terms of pounds sterling or do you have to punch in the amount of baht you require?

(:beer Do you get a receipt in pounds sterling or in baht?

© What is the maximum amount in pounds (or baht) you can get in one day?

(d) What is the minimum amount in pounds (or baht) you can get in one day?

(e) Is the transaction really free of any commission or surcharge with a Flexaccount card?

Thanks

Thanks.

So you can only get one set amount of £300? How would you know how many baht that is, if you have to punch in amounts in baht?

Sorry, not being awkward. Just find it a bit odd that you do not get any choice. £300 or nothing.

My fault - mis read your question, of course you can take less....I always take 20000 baht from each card (as long as the rate is above 66 baht to the £ Im OK). But you can take any amount you like under that.

Hi

Wanted alterations to house, did not have a Thia. bank account at time so went into Bangkok Bank to enquire. They said that without me phoning my own bank i could only transfer 200,000B a day from my debit card. I wanted 250,000B so did it in 2 days 200,000B first day and 50,000B second day.

This is still in effect now as I've use this method to get money to buy a car, 3 days at 200,000 a day.

Cheers Doug.

I always use my flexaccount, infact ive got 2 accounts the other has a standard atm card this is for backup incase i lose the first card. The accounts can accessed online together. Im not sure but i dont think you get as good of an exchange rate on the standard atm card account, the debit card is withdrawn under visa and the standard atm card is withdrawn under cirrus, as i said its only a backup.

One thing i will say is always keep your receipts for withdrawals a few times with withdrawals my account has been debited twice for the transaction, the mistake was always recitified within a day or two, but be carefull and check

I would suggest you just open another flexaccount (or two!) really easy after opening the first one. Then do everything online - instant xfers between accounts, check all OK with withdrawals etc etc. Plus you have backup card(s) and the daily availability of multiple £300's (saved my bacon on a couple of occasions!).

I generally find xe.com to be a bit slow at adjusting their on line figures! so only rely on it for "ball park" calculations.

This must affect the Euro - baht rate as well.

A couple of minutes ago on xe.com

45.3961 baht - Euro

1.48412 Euro - £

This equates to 67.3732 baht to the £, which was pretty much what xe.com gave as the baht - sterling rate (67.375)

Here are the rates I got from Nationwide on my recent trip.

15/2 69.912

19/2 69.42

22/2 69.526

So it looks like the rates are very similar to those given by the Thai banks on their websites, and radically different from the rates I saw on the Yahoo currency converter when I actually made the tranactions.
