Usually placed outside in traps sunken in the ground but does not work for dry wood termites,which is likely what ate this unless moisture was present to start some decay. Spraying the outside of the wood is a waste of time as they dont eat the outer wood shell to let the light into their nests which they hate. Basically if you have termites strip the timber out fast to stop it spreading if you can.
