Areca - long term rates

Hi guys

Have stayed at Areca a number of time for a few weeks at a time but later this year may get around to a longer trip of upto 3 months.

Question - has anyone stayed at the Areca longer term and what MONTHLY RATES have you managed to negotiate?

I stay at the Areca a month at a time and have never asked about a reduced rate. Maybe it it possible, but their website does not mention anything about it.

 

If you belong to the Pattaya sports club and show your PSC ID, you will get a 10% discount.

Have you stayed at any many other hotels in Pattaya? If you like the Areca then ok, obviously up to you but have you stayed anywhere else as a comparison. I can not understand the attraction of this hotel. I think the Areca is crap and know that there are many much better hotels available and at a better price.

I tried to get a monthly rate for my upcoming trip and the prices quoted to me were only 100 baht cheaper per night.

Name some, I am looking for somewhere at the moment and the Areca is very high on the radar.

When it comes to Hotel Reviews, people always seem to mention better Hotels available at that price but never mention the Hotels.

I have noticed in the last few weeks especially a LOT of adverse criticism of the Areca.First time ever to hear these types of comments ie front desk Manager "NANCY" is getting really rude and insulting more and more each day.Rooms are getting very tired looking and most recent the vast increase of family groups with kids running around.

I myself have never considered it for a long term stay (To expensive) after all you only sleep there,far better to rent a large guesthouse room,buy outside breakfast,and pay a cheap price should you want to swim!

There is an ABUNDANCE of large guesthouse rooms available around this area whose rooms put the Areca to shame both in furnishings and particulary size,and we all know SIZE Matters!

Areca doesn't have much of a monthly discount. You'd be much better off going to the LK Metropole across the street, if you want to stay in the same area. There are a number of hotels better than the Areca that offer good monthly rates.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone - Areca is an option only if I could get a decent discount for a longer stay. I have stayed at other places but at @1,100bht (always had rooms in the new block) I have not found anywhere as good - location, pool, etc. But for a longer stay 1,100 bht per night is too much - I do like the area so I am also looking at Condos / guesthouses as an alternative. One I have in mind is Diana Millenium House on Soi Bouakao - anyone ever stayed there.

This is a sister hotel of Areca, which apparently is new and does offer long-term rates.

Always rated Areca until lats year, great location but prices rising and not fantastic rooms, pool v.good though. Someone mentioned there is a load of building work going on at rear of Areca next to the swimming pool which is noisy. I think it needs a refit as well. I would look to a serviced apartment for a month long stay and reckon you'd be getting it for around 700 b per day (from hearing ex-pats talk) meaning you'd save at least 12,000 b (£170 per month) during your stay if you avoid Areca. Pays for your flight eh!!

I can confirm all the above and I would like to add the new 300 Bath joiner fee for every guest exceeding the 'max. 2 persons per room' rule, whether ST or LT! Made us check out prematurely last month. So if you are heavily into three or more-somes, forget it!

If I was asked for a good alternative to the Areca Lodge the first place I would suggest is any of the Sabai hotels around Soi 2 to Soi 4 area. Sabai Lodge, Sabai Inn or Sabai Resort are all a good choice. Not just good rooms for the money but the staff have a great attitude.

 

Usually, they will reduce the prices for internet reservations.

Big C is only across the road, Walking St is 5 - 10 min on Baht bus, but then I dont even go there most nights as often I don't get past the bars on the Soi 2 complex!! The gogo on Soi 2, Classroom, has had a few quid spent on it, beds, private rooms, jacuzi, I think its as good as any I've been to in Pattaya.

I can get Sabai Lodge for as low as 1000THB per night using one online service, which is exactly the same price as Areca's entry-level room.

 

I will give Sabai some serious thought.

 

Soi 2 location is the only downfall for me. Last time I stayed in Soi Diana, I could easily walk to Walking St. Can't do that from Soi 2.

 

Do Baht buses run 24hrs??

I frequently started walking from soi 2 to walking street. Quite a few bars/go-gos on the way for pit stops. Baht busses come up 2nd road and go DOWN soi 2 to get back to beach road. No problems at all getting rides any time. But after 3 am they are very few/far between. Always a motorbike you can hop on, though.

Both areas (Soi Diana and Soi 2) are VERY GOOD for convenience, transortation and shopping. The only edge (perhaps) going to the Diana area for restaurants, imop.

OK, fair point. When in Pats I usually start off in Soi 2 and Soi's 4 to 5 then get baht bus to Soi's 7 & 8 and Walking St, stoping to eat along the way and to collect some company. Then, I always end up back at Soi 2 for a night cap as its a short stroll back to Sabai Lodge. Also it is worth mentioning Soi 1. This area is worth a look. Soi 2 area has the edge for me.

 

Anyway, back to the hotel question. A choice between the Areca and any of the Sabai hotels around Soi 2?

 

No contest, Sabai everytime!!

I have stayed at Areca a few times and would recommend it for a shorter stay than you are asking about, they do offer a discount but not sure how much for month stays, but they don't offer this over the peak period of Christmas New year.

 

I would recommend LK Metropole at the discounted monthly rates Martin has organised, a really good deal on their monthly rates, it would be my place of choice if I could manage to get that much time in one hit in Pattaya. Stayed for a week a couple of years back and found it a great hotel.
