How much a month

My wife and I currently pull 4K USD per month not including investment income. We live well but I know we can live like medium King in Pattaya on this amount. Up north in Udon we should be able to live like a large King on this.

 

 

You could like like a king in the USA on 4k USD a month. I think the average Thai makes 10k Baht a month and still has money left over to support their family. It really does come down to lifestyle and the two biggest drags on income are girls and beer, though for most Thailand wouldn't be worth living in without those.

to me one thing allways holds true,whatever you are living on back home,you could live much better on the same amount in thailand

i think the main question should be asked, HOW DO YOU WANT TO LIVE IN THAILAND. as a tourist, drinking and whoring all the time or as a sensible farang controlling your drinking and whoring. you will fall into ill heath drinking all the time

Was sat in a bar down soi diana on my recent trip and I got talking to an old English fella who had just moved over there, I was intriqued and I asked him how much he was living on?

he told me 150 english pounds a week, about 11,000 baht.

I said do you find that easy?..he said well Im sat in this bar talking with you aint I and I come here at least 4 times a week, he also had a live in g/f and pays 7000 baht a month rent for what he said was a very decent room

For me, I could live on a lot less that some of the figures being bandied about. Obviously it depends on what youre paying for your accomodation, and how much you drink! Personally, I cant drink every night, as it would get to be boring after a time! Transport is cheap as chips, food is also cheap, (especially if you eat as thais do). I admit I dont know what it would cost for internet or cable tv.

Obviously, everybody is different, and spends money differently etc. BUT! isnt $4,000 like about £2,000?

if so, I live on a lot less than that nett per month in the U.K! with that I have a house here in U.K. and a house in Patts, 2 cars, 1 kid, 1 dog, etc etc!!!!!!!

I think I could live very well on £150 a week in Patts!

I could live on £15,000 a year easy like marley boy says I live on less than that now (although I have free accommodation and cheap food from work).

 

I couldn't live the holiday life style on that but I wouldn't want to. The sweet is not as sweet without the sour so I think it would be party time at the weekend and then chill during the week.

 

All this is just plans though and you know what happens to them.

guys let me try to explain mytself,let's assume you only have 1000us/month to live on,you can barely servive on that or more like barely exist in the states,1000 us in pattay will definetly not enable you to live in the lap of luxury by any means but at list you can rent an air con room in nirun condo or alike (5-6k) you can have 3-4 meals a day, granted not the hanibahna brunch for 1000bht,but you can fave good thai food,for what youd pay for a sixpack here,you can have 6 thai beers in the right bars ,meet girls that that will cheare you up,and still have 1000bht or so left over for a couple s/t or l/t, granted no go go girls ,or barfines,but atleast cute girl compared to the fat ones here, and most important of all you'll die a happy man,instead of a grouchy old fart imho

The fact is that I live VERY well on about 20,000 baht per month. BUT, no way would I want to be confined to a 20,000 baht per month budget. I like expensive toys that I don't need, but I enjoy them so why not? To have to look at something I wanted and know that I couldn't afford it would be pretty depressing to me. I'm not a wealthy man be any means but I can afford some luxuries. I just happen to be happy without too many REALLY expensive things. I bought a new car about six months ago. There sits a million baht in my garage. It has about 6,000 kilometers on it. I'd rather drive my pickup truck. I have a new four wheel drive tractor and implements for it. Another 500,000 baht that was spent on something that I absolutely don't need. I figure that's just money that my kids won't inherit.

I don't pay any rent so that skews the figures a bit. As far as food, my wife is a great cook. Fruit and vegetables are VERY cheap up here. My wife also raises some of the fruit and vegetables and barters for others. She raises ducks and sells and trades them for other things. People up here may not have much money but they DO eat well. The electric bill is between 800 and 1,200 a month depending on how much I run the air con. The water bill is less than 100 baht per month. (3 baht per cubic meter). I go up on a mountain to a little watering hole maybe twice a week and the lady charges me 30 baht for a big bottle of Archa. I can't drink more than four big bottles. It's really hard to spend much money living out in the boonies. My Internet costs 1,600 and UBC TV 1,500 baht per month. My health insurance is less than 2,000 baht per month. I have first class insurance on the car and pickup. That is a waste because we sure don't need two vehicles. That insurance is less than 3,000 baht per month for both.

 

When I first moved to Jomtien my entertainment expense (beer & women) cost 19,000 baht per month and I no longer have the desire or places to go to spend much up here. I am quite content with my life.
